1. Overview ALi's M5603D provides a cost-effective solution for working with CMOS Sensor device for video camera application. With built-in programmable timing control circuitry and flexible serial control interface to work with general CMOS sensor devices, ALi M5603D also integrates on-chip image buffer, voice ADC and high-speed USB2.0 device controller to provide an optimized USB-based video camera with best system cost/performance target available.
2. Features No external memory required. Support up to SXGA size CMOS sensor -
For USB2.0 High-Speed mode, M5603D supports data stream transfer with 1280x1024 @ 15 fps, 640x480 & 352x288 & 320x240 &176x144 & 160x120 @ 30 fps

For USB1.1 Full-Speed mode, M5603D supports data stream transfer with 352x288 & 320x240 @ 7.5 fps, 176x144 & 160x120 @ 30 fps.

3. Functional Descriptions 3.1 USB 2.0 Controller The USB specifications revision 2.0 with the operational rate up to 480 Mbit/s. ALi’s compliance-proven USB 2.0 controller design also provides the standard Isochronous-In USB video class feature for the optimized system compatibility. The peripheral controller supports USB suspend and resume operations to further reduce the actual operating and suspend-mode power consumption for the USB-based system.
3.2 USB 2.0 Transceriver M5603D built-in USB transceiver, Serial Interface Engine (SIE) and command decoder (UBL) to be fully compliant with high/full-speed USB specifications revision 2.0/1.1 at operation rate up to 480/12 Mbits/sec. The compliance-proven transceiver design provides two standard differential single-ended connections for data transmission and reception. With existed functional support to USB suspend and resume operation, M5603D utilizes ALi proven low-power CMOS technology to provide cost-effective integration for the USB-based peripheral system.
3.3 Embedded Micro-Controller Unit The M5603D embeds a high-performance MCU to serve the USB engine to enable an exceptional data transfer performance through the USB bus. 3.4 Image Sensor Interface ALi M5603D provides programmable 8-bit video data bus with general serial control interface for video transfer/control with target CMOS image sensor. With design integration and programmability flexibility in mind, M5603D could be easily programmed to connect with varieties of CMOS image sensors.
3.5 Audio Interface With build-in ADC interface module, M5603D is capable of connecting to MIC circuit for voice-capture and packaged through USB interface to constitute real-time audio/video based applications.
3.6 Built-in On-Chip Clock Synthesizer With on-chip clock synthesizer, M5603D is allowed to use nominal low-cost 12 MHz crystal (or oscillator) by connecting to XTALI and XTALO, and generates standard internal 480 MHz clock for USB interface. If the external 12 MHz clock source is available, the XTALI input pin can be used as the clock input to provide more cost saving in the clock circuitry. Additional clock output with two times of video pixel rate is provided for video capture module.
