1 49 Template-Type, No-Fail Fills and Licks Ok the following short report is an additional supplement to the “Bass Guitar Secrets!” Home Study Course Volume 2… Inside I’ll provide you with 49 easy to use, no-fail fills and licks you can use to instantly add flare to any song and join most any type of chords expertly... Most all the riffs here are based on the 7 options we discussed in the course. …And while they are not meant just to be copied verbatim... They are and should serve as idea jumper cables, so I encourage you to; 1) Make them your own by changing stuff around… Joining more than one of them back to back, adding vibratos and other articulations you learnt about in the course… Change the tempos, the phrasings etc. to play them faster or slower. A great way to do this is to listen to a riff once, start up your backing music and sing back the lick from memory to fit the song. When you can sing it, you can play it. 2) Emphasize different degrees than I do by starting and ending on different degrees within the chord. You don’t always have to start and end on the root. 3) Practice moving them around to different keys… 4) Play them a maximum of five times and try to replicate them on your fretboard from memory in different octaves… 5) N.B. Sound files are provided for 30 of the 49 licks… This way you have some homework to put YOUR OWN voice to the remaining 19 licks. That said, let’s get right into the riffs.

1 Minute Summary: Make it a part of your practice time to learn just one riff a day. But when doing so examine them carefully, look at how they relate to the chord you’re playing, what degrees they emphasize, start and end on… Learn to play them in more than one form… In different keys and octaves… at different tempos using different phrasings etc. And most of all personalize them to fit your own style.
