BOX CHAIN
Another of the basic weaves you can add to your repertoire...
Box Chain Bracelet Kit includes 18g/4.25mm rings clasp
earwires (for those extra rings!)
The Box chain is a beautiful square chain, and our version is the
‘flat’ box, which is more rectangular and lies smoothly against the wrist with less tendency to roll. The construction of it is very similar to the Byzantine.
Weaving the chain Start with an open ring and add four closed rings & close. Add a second open ring through all four of the closed rings and close.
Arrange the rings as in (Photo 1). I recommend that you add ‘a tail’ (ie: twist tie or a simple 1&1 chain) so that you have something to hold onto.
Fold the last two rings down so they rest on either side of the middle set of two rings. Gently separate the rings that are now on top (the middle set of rings of the 2-2-2 chain) and pass one
open ring through only the folded down pair of rings. Close this ring. (Photo 2) Follow the same path with a second ring.
*Add one ring (Photo 3), follow with a second, fold them down
and lock in place with another ring (Photo 4) and add a second ring.** Repeat from * to ** until the chain is the length you want.
Connect each end of the finished chain to your clasp. Tumble or polish as desired.
