NG G Pipingg Lesson n 1 Video 1 1 Let's get started. Cliick New (to start a new drawing) 1. d andd we’ll use a template.. 2 Select th 2. he Metric tem mplate. In CADWorx, you always start a new drawing with a templlate. If you don't, you'll have issues later, because there t are som me viewing variables v andd other settinngs that the template takes advan ntage of. So one rule to remember r iss always usee a templaate when sta arting a new w drawing. 3 Click thee Setup buttton. Review 3. w the settings. For our current c drawing, we'll be set to 3D solids. Leave thee small bore fittings set to t threaded d. 4 For conffiguration, select 4. s metricc config. If you doon't have it set, click Loaad, click Meetric, and cllick Open.
5 Click Sp 5. pecification//Size, and cliick Browse.
6 Scroll accross and seelect the Sam 6. mple Metricc Inch projeect. Using these setttings will giv ve us pipe boore diameterrs inches, annd the componeent lengths will w be in milllimeters. Soome projectss are done inn these uniits, and using g this for ourr work will give g us a setup that can be b used worrldwide for training. t
7 Once thee project is seelected, the specs 7. s will bee listed. Select the 150 spec, and d set the ma ain size to 8”” and the reeduced to 6””.
8 The layering will be left to the default 8. d layering. This can c be changed but the defaault layering works fine. Most of thee Piping Rules wiill be set to Automatic. A Set the Pip pe Length Rule R to No and the Weld W Insertiion Rule sett to No. Sett the Pipe En nd Prep Ru ule to No. Leave L the Ceenter Line set s to On. Click C Apply and Close.

1 Let's talkk about a cou 1. uple of thinggs that are reaally importaant here and will savee you a lot off trouble lateer as you go through CADWorx.
2 If you reccall, we initiially put a flaange in the drawing. 2. d W had a flangge We and whenn we placed the pipe up against the flange, f we cllicked PIPE and presssed Enter. This T let it connnect automatically.
3 When yoou place com 3. mponents in CADWorx, C o option iss clicking a one componeent from the Spec view toool palette, like l PIPE, annd then zooming in and using g Osnap to connect c to a previous p com mponent.
4 That willl work, but itt's problemaatic. Some components are 4. a really narrow, like l the gask kets. This makes it easy to Osnap onn the wrong side of gaasket, which h can cause connectivity c problems (if the End Type rulee is not set). So when yoou have a coomponent plaaced and youu want to continue c righ ht on with annother component, the beest method is i to click your y new com mponent andd press Enterr on the keybboard. The system will w automatiically connecct the two coomponents, and a you willl have perffect connectivity betweeen these com mponents.
5 Later, as you model in 5. i CADWorrx, if you havve small spaaces or overlaps between com mponents, IS SOGEN willl generate errrors as it triees to producce the isomeetric drawingg. So just bee aware of thhat. 6 Another thing to talk 6. k about is flanges. If we click a flangge and we goo from left to right, thee system placces it. Whenn you click a flange agaiin and repeaat the steps (left ( to right)) it will alterrnate. The fiirst time it’s face firstt, then the bu uttweld side is placed seccond. The next n time youu click flannge it will do o the oppositte (buttweld first, face seecond).
7 When yoou click FLA 7. ANGE alwayys notice the prompt. It will w say pickk a start pooint and it haas somethingg following in i brackets. If you want to start with w the choicce in the braackets you haave to right click c for thatt option. 5

8 If we plaace a flange against 8. a anothher flange (fface-to-face)) the system will placee the first on ne, then a gasket and bollts, then a maating flange..
9 This is beecause our piping 9. p rules are a set. These are foundd under Setupp. The gaskket rule, bolt rule, and flaange insertioon rule controls this. Thiis is one off the great neew features inn CADWorxx now.
1 Click Gaate Valve. Click 10. C in an open o area and a place it (drag to the right andd click). We want to veriify the hand wheel (valvve operator) is i coming in as the valv ve gets placeed.
1 In my exxample, the valve 11. v operatoor is not beinng drawn. We'll W modifyy the specification to fix fi that, so thhat we get haand wheels too come in automatically when we w insert gatte valves.
1 Click thee Spec Edito 12. or button. This opens up the specifications forr editing. Depending on o the system m at your offfice, you maay or may noot have acceess to these. They may have h the speccs in a read only o folder. But we'ree going to bee working with w the sampple spec in thhis course, soo most likeely this will be b available on your C: drive.
1 Click thee main buttton (upper leeft), and click 13. k Open. Finnd the Sample__Metric_Incch project annd click Open (it’s in thhe Spec foldeer under Plaant). That will w open the project up inn the Spec Editor. E The specs in the t project will w be listedd. Click Yess, update from m the cataloog (if prompted).

1 Click thee down arro 18. ow next to toopworks. Click C the filee named Wheel_G Gate_150_F F_M. That's the file conttaining meassurements foor the hand wheel. If yo our system already a puts in hand wheeels for thesee gate valvves you won’’t have to set this. For my m system, I’ll use this and click k Apply.

2 As the syystem modelled the valvee, it also placced the gaskeet, bolts, andd 24. flanges on o each side. Place the other o three vaalves. You can see thiss just goes in n very quicklly. In earlierr versions, we w would havve to pllace the flangge, place thee gate valve, place the seecond flangee, and put thee boltss in later. 2 So now these 28. t two flaanges are set to 300 lb. raatings. The nozzle that we're going g to moddel next will be an 8" size, and it would w also need n to be coompatible wiith the 300 pound flaange. So lett's see what the t new verssions of CAD DWorx can do d for this. This is wherre the self-aw ware components can coome into playy and help us with som me automatioon. 3 Click on 30. n the long weeld neck on the specview w tool palettte. 3 Right cliick and select Length. 31. 3 Type 2000 . Checking C thee gasket shhows it as an n 8”, 300 pouund gasket as a well.
3 So you can see how this 34. t automattion can reallly help us with w our productivvity. We don n't have to do d so many settings s and the t system reduces the t chances we w have to make m errors. 2 The systeem lists the weight 21. w and the t position of o all the com mponents inn this modeel. I'll presss too work dow wn the list, evventually getting too the bottom m. The system m will give us u a summattion, so it shows the total weigh ht, and it givves us the loccation of thee center of gravity. It asks if wee want to inssert a markeer. I'll presss for yes, and a it draws a small markker locating the center of o gravity forr this modeel. The grap phic is smalll, so I’ll use the t AutoCA AD Scale commandd to enlarge it. I’ll scalee it up 200.
2 Double click 22. c on the Paper Spacce area of thhe drawing. What the center off gravity does for us is it gives us a balance b pointt. It's usefull i if we w were goinng to lift thiss line offshore in engineeering. For instance, and swinng it over and d place it, if we designedd our shacklees to be lifteed straight above a this po oint, the linee would com me up in balannce. It wouldn't be tilting orr swaying exxcessively. So S this is anoother tool in CADWorx that can be b done autoomatically beecause CAD DWorx carriees c the weighht of all its components.
2 So there are a lot of options 23. o in CA ADWorx forr sorting maaterials, for setting upp lists in the form you'd like them, foor exportingg and importingg out of dataabases, and for f running live l databasees. So CADWorx has a lot of o features thhat makes itt easy for youu to work thhe way that''s best for yo ou.
