Introduction In SCM7.0 this new functionality (PPDS Deployment) is introduced, this is specifically meant to be used in characteristics based planning, but can also work in environments without the usage of characteristics. PPDS Deployment works similar to the SNP deployment and has some limitations compared to the SNP deployment.But, as mentioned earlier the main advantage of this functionality is that, the new heuristics can consider the characteristics values of the receipt, requirement elements for allocating the quantity.

Steps to be followed Prerequisites 1. The planning area 9ASNP_PPDS needs to be initialized for the corresponding planning version. 2. In PPDS Global settings the ATP category assignments to be done in the following way: Receipt 

Stock Transfer Cnf: EF Deployment: Purchase requisition

Requirement Stock Transfer Cnf: EG Deployment: Release for stk transf. 3. Note 1465801 to be implemented for releases till SAPKY70007. Scenario Explained There are demands for a product from 2 locations to a source location (production plant) with different characteristic values and the PPDS Deployment heuristics should take care of the characteristic values and allocate the quantities to the demand elements(deployment orders) according to the fair share rule. Customizing settings Maintain PPDS Deployment characteristics profile

Here, create a profile and assign the characteristics, based on which the deployment should happen




Master data settings Product created and classified in R/3 and CIFed to APO.

This CLASS MG_PPDSDEPL contains the ch aracteristics MG_LENGTH and MG_WIDTH In PPDS tab assign the Characteristics profile, Fare share rule (only A and X supported) and the deployment horizons.




Process Heuristics SAP_DEPL_SNG, SAP_DEPL_MUL are introduced in SCM7.0 for achieving this functionality Overview

Demand Elements from the target locations

So, the expectation is that, Planned order 779272 will be deployed for quantity 50 to the PReqRel 779270 as the characteristic value for the MG_LENGTH is matching (value: 100)




And, the planned order 779273 will be deployed for quantity 50 to the PReqRel 779271 as the characteristic value for the LENGTH is matching (value: 200) Also, note that the value for the characteristic “W idth” is irrelevant here, bec ause “W idth” is not part of the deployment characteristics profile.

Heuristics Heuristics profile SAP_CBCLP is available in SCM7.0 for executing the new heuristics from PPDS planning tools. In product view of the Source location execute the SAP_DEPL_SNG from the variable heuristics option

Results After heuristics the following is the status,




After the heuristics only 50 quantity of each planned order is deployed against the requirements as per the matching characteristics values. Deployment without characteristics If the characteristics profile is removed from the product master the following will be result,

The deployment orders do not have the characteristics assignment and only one planned order (779350) is deployed against the 2 requirements irrespective of the characteristics value.
