The Tale of the Three Brothers and Their Descendant
T
here were once Three Brothers who were traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight. In time, the Brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass. But being learned in the magical arts, the Three Three Brothers Brothers simply waved their wands and made a bridge.
Before they could cross, however, they found their path blocked by a hooded figure. It was Death, and he felt cheated. Cheated because travelers would normally drown in the river. But Death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the Three Brothers on their magic and said that each had earned a prize for having been clever enough to to evade him. him. The First Brother asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence. So Death fashioned him one from an elder tree that stood nearby. The Second Brother decided he wanted to humiliate Death even further and asked for the power to recall loved ones from the grave. So Death plucked a stone from the river and offered it to him. Finally, Death turned to the Third Brother. A humble man, he asked for something that would allow him to go forth from that place without being followed by Death. And so it was that Death Death reluctantly handed handed over his own own Cloak of Invisibility. Invisibility. The First Brother traveled to a distant village, where with the Elder Wand in hand, he killed a wizard with whom he had once quarreled. Drunk with the power that the Elder Wand had given him, he bragged of his invincibility. invincibility. But that night, another wizard stole the wand and slit the Brother's throat for good measure. And so Death took the First Brother for his own. The Second Brother journeyed to his home, where he took the stone and turned it thrice in hand. To his delight, the girl he'd once hoped to marry before her untimely death, appeared before him. Yet, soon she turned sad and cold for she did not belong in the mortal world. Driven mad with hopeless longing, the Second Brother killed himself so as to join her. And so Death took the second brother. As for the Third Brother, Death searched for many years but was never able to find him. Only when he attained a great age did the youngest Brother shed the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his Son. He then greeted Death as an old friend and went with him gladly departing this life as equals.
Upon reaching adolescent, the Son realized that it was his responsibility, being the only Descendant of the Three Brothers, to collect all of Death’s gifts, and to keep it away from anyone for he did not want the power that the gifts possessed to get into the wrong hands. He knew that wizards and witches would kill even their loved ones to have power over the gifts. The Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility – together they make one the Master of Death thus having the ability to restraint mortality. And so the three gifts were given the name, “The Deathly Hallows”. To acquire the Elder Wand, the Son knew it was not an easy task. A duel between the most powerful wand in the world and a wand bought from an inexpensive wand shop seemed to be hopeless for the latter. Knowing this, he trained and practiced wand dueling starting from his young age. As his skills developed, he had trained with many wizards and witches and learnt conscientiously in the field of wand dueling with some of the most remarkable duelers of the time. After time, he became so skilful that he was considered by many as the most cherished wand dueler of his age. The Son grew to become a man respected and adored by many for his marvelous wand dueling skill. His story disseminated throughout many places and had reached to the proprietor of the Elder Wand himself. The man, feeling challenged and taunted by the anecdote had asked the Son to duel with him in front of many wizards and witches as an attempt to prove of his invincibility. The Son, being prepared for the duel, unassumingly accepted the man’s challenge. And so they dueled. Using the skills he had learned combined with his intelligence, he defeated the man. Wizards and witches were astounded by his strength, but he told them modestly that he is not an enemy but instead an ally who would use the Elder Wand for the good of many. Then, he took the Elder Wand and used it as his own. The Resurrection Stone, on the other hand, was another difficulty for the Son. Rumors told so many stories that the actual location of the Stone was unknown. For many years, he looked for the Stone, using rumors and stories as clues. Every day, he felt despair and desolated by the fact that the Stone was almost impossible to be found. Despite all of these, he knew that he had to keep on searching for clues and cues while being optimistic and hopeful. He knew he would find it. Come hell or high water. It was just a matter of time.
One be destined day, the Son overheard a group of men - whom did not knew he was there hiding underneath his Invisibility Cloak – talking about a nomadic anonymous sorcerer who had just moved to the town where he lived. They let slip that the sorcerer had the ability to bring back anyone from the dead. Astonished by what he heard, he immediately formulated a plan for he knew that that might just be the Resurrection Stone. The next day, the Son brought his lady friend to help him meet and persuade the sorcerer to recall her late father while he hid underneath his Invisibility Cloak. And so the sorcerer, convinced by the persuasion, took out the Stone from his robe and turned it twice in his hand. Before he completed his third turn, however, the Son quickly grabbed the stone from the sorcerer ’s hand and hid it underneath his Invisibility Cloak. The sorcerer was stunned for he did not expect that the persuasion was in fact a trap to steal the Stone. The Son and the lady fled away feeling blissful for the plan had worked. But to avoid unfriendliness between him and her – whom he knew had the desire to have the Stone – he Obliviated her, so that she would not remember any of the plan had ever happened. Since then, rumors of the Resurrection Stone was starting to fade and discreetly had become the proprietorship of the Third Brother’s son. As time passes by, the story of the Deathly Hallows had become a legend and told as tales and bedtime stories for children. The story had even been published in the book, “Tales of Beedle the Bard” and was one of the most read fables throughout history. Though some people do not believe in the existence of the Deathly Hallows, there are some who do. And the latter also believe that someone in this world is the Master of Death. But what they do not know is that the Descendant of the Three Brothers is me. I am the Third Brother’s son. And this, is my story.
The End.
