THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
Office of Information Management and Analysis 2008-2009 Faculty Salary Analysis EXPLANATORY NOTES
The purpose of this document is to provide salary information for faculty at The University of Texas at Austin by rank within academic discipline. This report presents academic year salaries based on faculty appointments effective November 1, 2008. Unless otherwise noted, the sources for salary information are the Office of Information Management and Analysis faculty data files. This faculty salary analysis document was originally developed for distribution to member institutions of the Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE). In order to provide the highest level of possible comparability between institutions, document format and reporting criteria have been defined and agreed upon by AAUDE member institutions as follows: Personnel Included: All individuals in instructional units holding faculty appointments with rank of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor are included, as well as other teaching faculty employed half-time or more. Other teaching faculty include lecturers and specialists, as well as visiting, adjunct, and clinical titles. Administrators are included in a particular unit if they have a separate faculty appointment of half-time or greater in that unit. All faculty appointments are on a nine-month basis. Salaries: Faculty salary data for 2008-09 are based on appointments, and represent full-time rates for faculty appointed in a particular unit. Both headcount and FTE counts are presented. The salary figures also include supplements from endowment income. Salaries for part-time appointments have been adjusted to full-time rates for this analysis. If an individual has appointments in more than one unit, all faculty counts and salaries are allocated to the faculty member s primary unit. ʼ
Average Age: The average age of faculty is included in the analysis. CIP Code: The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) coding system is used to define instructional areas and in nearly all cases matches our departmental organizational structure. CIP codes reflect the 2000 code updates. Fringe Benefits: A complete summary of The University's fringe benefits follows. Unless specified otherwise, to be eligible to receive the listed benefits an employee must be employed 50% time or more for at least 4-1/2 months.
i
Specific attention should be given to the Premium Sharing Program (the amount paid by the State and the University). Rates are based on the employee s full-time or part-time status. ʼ
For the UT Select program, the standard premium sharing contribution is $369.12 per month or $4,429.44 per year for a full-time faculty member; $562.54 per month or $6,750.48 per year for a full-time faculty member and spouse; $492.87 per month or $5,914.44 per year for a full-time faculty member and children; and $687.44 per month or $8,249.28 per year for a full-time faculty member and family coverage. All calculable benefits amount to an additional 20.3% of the average faculty salary for all ranks.
