LANDING GEAR
1. NORMAL OPERATION AND INDICATION ¡ Landing gear is powered by the CENTER hydraulic system. ¡ Landing gear lever is prevented from being moved to UP by the Lever lock which is : - controlled by main gear tilt sensors - released when BOTH main gear TILT after T/O ¡ LOCK OVRD switch may be pushed as the gear will tilt by itself during retraction. ¡ MAIN gear locking provided by a SIDE brace and a DRAG brace : - if DRAG brace fails to lock, try by increasing the speed (max 270 kt) - if SIDE brace fails to lock, try by reducing the speed ¡ GEAR and DOORS lights ON during gear retraction and extension ¡ The tailskid is linked to the gear operation except in ALTERNATE. No speed nor drag limitation if the tailskid remain extended.
2. NORMAL EXTENSION ¡ When the MAIN gear & NOSE gear have extended, doors close.
3. ALTERNATE EXTENSION ¡ ALTERNATE extension should be used when : - Center hydraulics is U/S - any gear does not extend ¡ Alternate extension = Electric motor releases the UPLOCK of the NOSE gear and LOCKING DOORS mechanism for the MAIN gears ¡ Main gear DOORS remain open, but there is adequate ground clearance. ¡ With NOSE gear down and locked, the NOSE GEAR DOOR indication is inhibited.
4. AIR/GROUND LOGIC ¡ MAIN gear tilt sensors on each MAIN gear = air/ground sensing system. ¡ Nose gear compressed sensing system provides logic to relays controlling stall warning and portions of the caution and warning system. ¡ On some aircraft (on ground only), an EICAS advisory message for AIR/GND SYS or NOSE A/G SYS indicates that some portion of the sensing system has failed in the air position. Affected equipment and systems will not operate normally.

5. NOSE WHEEL STEERING ¡ Center hydraulic or the reserve brakes and steering system provide power for the Nose wheel steering ¡ 180° turn requires a minimum of 44.5 m pavement width. ¡ NOSE gear deflection is 6° by rudder and 65° by tiller. ¡ Wing tip radius is greater than tail radius.
6. FAULTS D O O R S G E A R
(amber) : Either MAIN gear or NOSE gear door open when NOSE gear not extended. (AOM 18.10.01)

Gear disagrees with lever position : - Any MAIN gear door open with gear lever in OFF or UP position - Gear lever not properly seated in detent.
TAIL SKID
(amber) : Tailskid disagrees with lever position.
NOSE
(green) : Valid also for LEFT & RIGHT / Respective gear down & locked.
