Have you wondered why at all 9 Stars can be alternately ‘timely’ and ‘untimely’ in Fei Xing? Is it due to Fei Xing or San Yuan? Have you been working with 81 Star Combinations in Flying Star Feng Shui while disregarding Mountain and Water Principle that says that we either allow pathway for Qi (open) or disallow pathway for Qi (close)? San Yuan is a calendar division and Fei Xing could have used any other mirror to measure vibrancy of 9 Stars, such as 12 Life Stages. Have you been still referring to 9 Stars as ‘timely and auspicious’ and ‘untimely and inauspicious’? Those tables with 81 Star Combinations under review. W H A T ’ S F E I X ING , WH A T TH EN S AN Y UA N ? Besides 9 Stars are not timely but Inside Yun, not untimely but Outside Yun, any remote notion of ‘timely a n d auspicious’ and ‘untimely a n d inauspicious’ is misplaced and as such not due to Flying Star Feng Shui, but due only to San Yuan Jiu Yun. Yet, such notions will have culminated in a table with 81 Star Combinations – commonly in use – with stunning connotation of illness, accident or disaster glued onto Star combinations. Most Flying Star Feng Shui practitioners would use ‘Fei Xing’ and ‘San Yuan’ in same breath. As a 9 Stars artist, you must really see San Yuan for what it is. Saying, we must first of all solve that, using those 9 Stars for purpose of Fei Xing Feng Shui is one, then any ‘pulled in’ categorizations – would they be called Wuxing or 12 Life Stages or San Yuan - are notional. Which made me decide that, if at all a discourse on 81 Star Combinations, it should only come with yet again assemblence of fundamentals, pertinent to our at all employing Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui 玄空飛星風水 in any responsible way. A table such as the one presented here and where it gives enumeration of what 81 Star Combinations would bode, could and should be seen only in light of basics pertaining Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui. In fact, once those basic Xuan Kong Fei Xing prescriptions in place, this would render any 81 Star Combinations table entirely obsolete, if only because, as it is, you’d be no more than minding the Mountain and Water Principle onto Stars in Fei Xing, then at no point would you consider such a table. So, let’s look into certain basics, before at all we resorted to the more ‘popular’ – only evidently fabricated - 81 Star Combinations table. As a Feng Shui practitioner or even as a professional, the last thing we want is, become spokesperson to anyone that had at any time earlier proclaimed all kinds of nonsense, while even worse is, if not we would have noticed it was gibberish in the first place and still we took it as teaching. You like to decide for yourself, based in technique and sound judgment. Thing is, outside wishing to own a Chinese Compass Luopan, the table with 81 Star Combinations and what they portent may soon become the most sought after ‘thing’ for any practitioner. Question becoming, upon your first seeing such table, did you see goings on there and able to denounce right away? Or, is there anything in that table that you thought was justifiable? However, to fully grasp what we will discuss, we should first distinguish Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui on the one hand, then San Yuan Jiu Yun on the other hand. San Yuan in itself is not Feng Shui and it does not handle 9 Stars, whereas it just no more than said that, each one of 9 Stars will be alternately ‘Inside Yun’ or ‘Outside Yun’, once held against a range of 9 x 20-year periods, such totalling 180 years, full stop. As such, 9 Stars could have just as well been mirrored against 12 Stages of Life. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. H el uo Q i E x pl or at i ons Net he rl an ds

It will take you some time to conquer this article, as it contains a step by step ‘first things first’ approach into certain established ‘truths’, such as you must know what San Yuan exactly bodes, while to begin with, no-one knows where such terms as ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’ had come from, as in fact, the very terms are wrong and not faithful to any Chinese verbatim. You’re a Xuan Kong Fei Xing – then rather not a San Yuan – practitioner, so that, Sān Yuán Jiǔ Yùn 三元九運 is not ‘Feng Shui’, it just only means ‘Three Cycles, Nine Periods’, as what San Yuan does along an a r i t h m e t i c a l e x e r c i s e is, first divide a period of 180 years into 3 x 60 years, then 9 x 20 years. Once then pulled in by Fei Xing Feng Shui, it can provide Fei Xing with ‘a’ take on waxing and waning along the course of larger time cycles. Time division proposed by San Yuan is then employed for purpose of Fei Xing, whereas you will see that, as such, San Yuan ‘timeliness’ finds no seat in any of the other standing 9 Stars and Luoshu systems of applications, or any other metaphysical system for that matter. Saying, things in perspective, San Yuan (no more than) supplies Xuan Kong Fei Xing with ‘a’ notion of timing and not only could Fei Xing have just as well adopted a good number of other notions on timing, this is as far as we should allow San Yuan to infringe at the realm of 9 Stars and 8 Trigrams. Therefore, within context and at best, it may be correct to say that: Mirrored against San Yuan timing – and only then -, 9 Stars as employed for Fei Xing can be alternately Inside Yun or Outside Yun. So, that is same as in noting, where at any given time on a recurrent pattern ‘a’ Star is, but it is totally wrong to even so much as suggest that: Mirrored against San Yuan timing, 9 Stars could be then also deemed auspicious or inauspicious, if it means that their such auspiciousness or inauspiciousness was based in a Star being ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’. As such, there is no such thing as San Yuan at all able to decide auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, for very reason that San Yuan only handles the timely or untimely. San Yuan only supplies Xuan Kong Fei Xing with ‘a’ notion of timeliness, but mandate for deciding the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness is and will always remain with Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui, to be more precise, the way in which Fei Xing’s intrinsic Mountain and Water Principle is handled, the way Form, Qi and Use are being handled. San Yuan is a calendar division and to that respect, it’s not Feng Shui. It doesn’t supply Mountain and Water Principle, Form, Qi, Use. Consequently, we should stop using the following ludicrous contraction in same breath: ‘Timely and auspicious Star’ and ‘untimely and inauspicious Star’. Because this would produce same friction as we keep seeing in Wuxing Five Transformations where most would still reason along following paradigm: ‘Supporting cycle is beneficial’ and ‘controlling cycle is unfavorable’. 1 99 9- 201 3. Are we Fei Xing experts or actually 9 Stars and Luoshu experts? Now, to really see that San Yuan is actually no more than just ‘a’ proposal for ‘a’ calendar division and that Fei Xing Feng Shui could have just as well ‘pulled in’ 12 Stages of Life to take 9 Stars to vibrancy and thus ‘behavior’ - and no matter how long you’d have been involved in Fei Xing Feng Shui -, let’s get really technical and see what it actually is we are doing. Surely, at the end of the day, we’d be actually no more than working along 9 Stars and Luoshu. Only after we’d have gathered a clear overall cosmological view onto 9 Stars, would it be soon enough to step into any of 9 Star’s systems of application, which would be of later concern and could well be Flying Star Feng Shui, Nine Star Ki Astrology or 9 Ki Divination. Start from scratch, as it is, there would be first our categorizing all tangible and intangible phenomena in our cosmos, with at such point ‘a’ system of application not anywhere in sight. It’s just that, still at this point, if we see a thing as ‘knife’, we would like to know into which bucket out of a series of 9 it should go. While ‘knife’ goes into bucket #7 for Dui Gua, it just sits there, then not would it be a ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’, an ‘auspicious’ or ‘inauspicious’ knife. A thing as ‘womb’ to end up in bucket #2 for Kun Gua, would not be a ‘healthy’ or ‘sick’ womb, because at this stage it is on to just 9 Stars and Trigram attributes, with no further connotation, for reason that not would we have pulled in any whatsoever ‘mirror’ to be weighing 9 Stars for their behavior. It’s utterly important that not you skipped this phase of classifying phenomena along just their Trigram attributes.
If you stop the clock, you’d now have each bucket filled with tens of Trigram attributes. If then bucket #3 had ‘train’ or ‘uniformed personnel’, but not did we know ‘operator’, we wouldn’t be able to tell if it is a ‘good’ train or a ‘bad’ train, a ‘good’ or a ‘bad’ police man. In order to at all have 9 Stars perform, we first need domain, then platform, then context. Such platform for 9 Stars could be Fei Xing, it could be 9 Star Ki, each one with its own ‘operator’ to take 9 Stars to ‘behavior’. Even then, 9 Stars mirrored against Wuxing as an ‘operator’ would give different performance and behavior than once with 9 Stars along the ruler of 12 Stages of Life, or a threefold (3 x 60 = 180 years) calendar division as proposed by San Yuan. 1 99 9- 201 3. How San Yuan Jiu Yun is just only to divide 180 years into portions Whereas 25,920 years for Great Year could divide along whichever variety of segments, we may have such range organized around 144 portions of 180 years. Which is where San Yuan comes in as, once then arrived at ‘a’ certain portion of 180 years, San Yuan further divides it into 3 x 60 years, then once more into 9 x 20 years, that’s all. In our times, the then most relevant and manageable such portion of 180 years runs from 1864-2044. What we do in Oriental metaphysics is, we use such stretch of 180 years to give out Jiazi, or the 60 combinations there are to 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches, such that the first Stem-Branch combination of Yang Wood-Rat coincides with 1864, the last in the range Yin Water-Pig with 2043. However, at no point did we adhere connotation, performance or behavior onto any of the Ganzhi, as we’re here still on to only cartography. San Yuan means ‘3 Cycles’, so that, for that matter, those 180 years could have been divided by 2 cycles, 8 cycles or 19¾ cycles just the same. But it just so comes out that ‘San’ means 3, just as ‘Jiu’ as in Jiu Yun means ‘9’. Where then any range of 180 years could be divided into 10 or 12, it just so happens that San Yuan then takes same span of 180

Note
however, that at no point San Yuan was dividing by ‘9 Stars’ or even concerned with ‘9 Stars’. Now, what does Jiu Yun mean in Chinese, 9 Periods or 9 Stars? It says San Yuan Jiu Yun, rather not San Yuan, Jiu Xing (Stars). Once divided 180 years into 3 segments of 60 years, we may squeeze in 3 rows of 60 Stems and 3 rows of 60 Branches. Such calendrical

Let’s take 60 Jiazi and 9 Stars into behavior Fundamentally, 9 Stars behavior actually varies each time with changing domain, platform and context. We cannot make general claims as to 9 Stars behavior, until after we decided how such seemingly ‘same’ 9 Stars would yet perform in Fei Xing due to its ‘operators’, then in Nine Star Ki Astrology or 9 Ki Divination, given different ‘operators’ there. Once Fei Xing our platform for Stars to come into behavior, we say Forms govern Stars, but, still at this point, we only just have our building blocks, which could be 60 Jiazi or 9 Stars, but not had we pulled in a ‘mirror’ to be weighing Ganzhi and 9 Stars qualitatively. We’d have the segmentation into neatly organized parts, then not did we have a board for waxing and waning, the vibrancy, only then eventually the behavior, performance of Stars. Translated in terms of Fei Xing, we now know how to divide a portion of 180 years into 3, then into 9, but we are still not sure about the behavior of Star 2 ‘womb’ or Star 7 ‘knife’, simply because, for that, we would need something that could supply waxing and waning, such as 12 Stages of Life, or Wuxing. We still need ‘adopt’ some type of progression to take 9 Stars to performance. If Fei Xing means to ‘fly Stars’, but we would like to know each Star’s behavior at any given time, we’d first need ‘pull in’ a ‘mirror’, so let’s capture certain those eligible mirrors by their respective tables, catalogues. Now, there are several ways by which we may take 9 Stars to perform, but by themselves, 9 Stars do not so much as ‘perform’. 9 Stars are just electromagnetism and to ‘capture’ the single tangible or intangible phenomenon by certain Trigram attributes. 9 Stars need a weighing board to supply waxing and waning, thus vibrancy, but perhaps through San Yuan such ‘vibrancy’ then inappropriately nicknamed ‘timely’ and ‘untimely’. Fei Xing Feng Shui could have then ‘pulled in’ the table titled ‘12 Stages of Life’, just as Fei Xing and so as to let 9 Stars ride on the wave of 5 Elements could have pulled in the catalogue titled ‘Wuxing’. Only once then Fei Xing had invited in ‘a progression’ – and only then -, could 9 Stars be said to come under then adopted notion to account of vibrancy, for example as in our then saying that at any time ‘a’ Star would be Life Stage 1, Life Stage 6, Life Stage 12. While, only thenafter, would come in designations such as those pertaining connotation, such as ‘this Star would momentarily have its attributes supported’ or ‘this Star would momentarily have its attributes hampered’.

9 Stars are just that, they are 9 Stars If you are a Fei Xing Feng Shui artist, then, before anything, you are actually a specialist in 9 Stars and Luoshu. Saying, first 9 Stars, only then system of application. Your expertise in 9 Stars and Luoshu is then in your knowing exactly for what circumstances you could be tapping into which table to then momentarily operate 9 Stars. With already your sitting on ultimate knowledge to concern of cosmological classifications for all phenomena, your student or client could just ‘ask away’ and at one time have you explain what 9 Stars behavior to expect once pulled in Wuxing, another time 12 Stages of Life, then again, could be any other ‘mirror’. 9 Stars are just that, they are 9 Stars.

attribute’, then not robotically a ‘Star+San Yuan’ or a ‘Star+Wuxing’, which would give a wrong image as if there existed ‘a’ symbiosis between 9 Stars and their eventual operators. Any connotation, therefore, is uncalled for. Wuxing is but one such agreed upon division of an in itself enclosed circuit, which such in itself enclosed circuit could be a 24-hour day, seasons to a Solar year, the organ and meridian system. If then Kidney is governed by Star 1, and once we decided to glue on to the table titled ‘Wuxing’, a such Wuxing could be assigned an organ. But Star 1 is what governs the organ, the Wuxing is not what governs the organ. Yet, once having been shown ‘Star+Wuxing’, most would find it hard, if not undoable, to go back to still just saying Star 1, then not Star 1 Water, just Star 2, not Star 2 Earth. Once ‘Star+Wuxing’ served its purpose, we can do away with the table titled ‘Wuxing’, then back once more to just only 9 Stars and Trigram attributes, we may reach out for the table titled ‘San Yuan’, for example. Even above examples alone amply demonstrate that we’d be into Fei Xing Feng Shui, for purpose of which we’d be employing 9 Stars, while not would we say ‘Wuxing Feng Shui’ only because Wuxing momentarily pulled in to give 9 Stars hands ‘n’ feet to account of ‘vibrancy’. Granted, we may see ‘San Yuan Feng Shui School’ ( 三元風水派 ) being used as an umbrella term to host certain Feng Shui disciplines, but within here context San Yuan Jiu Yun just arithmetically says that we had divided 180 years into 3, then 9 segments, just as we would see the same range of 180 years divide by Two Cycles, Eight Periods, only then called Er Yuan Ba Yun 二元八運. 1 99 9- 201 3. If you can really appreciate that – still just taken on its own - a thing such as any projected timeliness of a Star and such at any point derived from ‘a’ catalogue could not decide (in)auspiciousness, you’re done, as it then immediately follows that no precooked tables with connotations could have come into existence. If you think about it, why then would a table with 81 Star Combinations be obsolete? Simply because of common sense and for reason that, as it is, our sole concern would be with just those 9 Stars in our Flying Star chart, then those Stars mirrored directly against environmental features, and Use, such that, never at any point in our assessment or our adjusting, would any prefabricated table with connotations have come into play. Then comes in how we would perceive 9 Stars to behave, but again here mirrored then only against environmental Mountain and Water, those either appropriately present or absent in their respective location and direction. We already agree that, within context of just Fei Xing, 9 Stars for their eventual behavior strictly only rely on how
then
each
Star

or

meets environmental features, and how then Mountain and Water Principle will be further employed, so that behavior and performance of 9 Stars directly relate to Form, Qi and Use. It said nowhere, that we can just skip those, then understand behavior of Stars as being at all dependent on any accompanying Star, or Star behavior and events read squarely from a table. Never could a table with 81 Star Combinations with all the ready portents and connotations there, take the place of Mountain and Water Principle, all we know about Form, Qi and Use. We know that, it is ultimately not a Star being ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’ to decide ‘auspiciousness’ or ‘auspiciousness’. That’s it. We know that any whatsoever Star once having been handled appropriately along just basic Fei Xing prescriptions could be made to bring out its most beneficial nature. We also know that it is rather of no concern, if then such beneficial behavior came from a ‘timely’ Star or an ‘untimely’ Star, if only because we know that under circumstances the untimely Star could be lured into favorable behavior and – more importantly –, if compromised, the timely Star could be still made to exert its ill portents. Definition simply has it, that Fei Xing can still make auspicious, what San Yuan had deemed untimely, while equally, Fei Xing would be able to make inauspicious, what was deemed timely. As a calendar, San Yuan may perhaps deem Stars timely or untimely, whereas it is ‘out’ as a player to account of whatever then follows, starting with what would be auspicious or inauspicious which is of course at the sole discretion of Fei Xing. 1 99 9- 201 3. What then makes for the better Fei Xing artist? Not wishing to step into persiflage in any way, but practically, let’s have a Flying Star Feng Shui consultant to come visit our house and to keep it straightforward and within the framework of ‘you catch my drift‘, let’s paint just two crude scenarios. Say, we have ‘a’ particular Star combination somewhere in our Flying Star chart, which could be Star ‘x-y’. Scenario one – using table with 81 Star Combinations Consultant once stumbled upon such Stars ‘x-y’, then tells you ‘oh, but, that actually bodes sickness in that and that organ’, while then ‘this and that marriage will fail’ or ‘your child bound to break his leg’. He doesn’t seem to be bothered with either present or absent Mountain and Water, then upon your further enquiring, he just points to his table with 81 Star Combinations that ‘says so’. Or, in the odd case that he would actually install appropriate Mountain and Water, we can ask if this was an improvement if still he would be talking about setbacks, sickness, all types of disaster, then of course indiscriminately extended into this or that ‘celebration’ or ‘superb exams’, just the same. As a side note – but admittedly, that could be just me – I would not be amused once invited anyone over for just an energetic screening, then be taken all hostage for having to hear all these (exaggeration intended for the purpose) psychiatric ‘goodies’, not to speak of having to endure all the gesticulation and the facial expression that should then underscore the ‘message’. Rather, then also, I would decide for myself if at all there was to be a ‘celebration’, or if even I’d wish to pass exams. Scenario two – using just Fei Xing prescriptions The other consultant in noting the exact same Stars ‘x-y’, tells me to best open this door to create a pathway for Qi onto such and such Star, then perhaps close another door to dissalow pathway for Qi onto such and such Star, while he

transportation, Qi distribution, Form and Use. He wasn’t carrying a table. Many in Fei Xing - and as such cancelling Fei Xing prescriptions, the environment and even the very person involved -, would be actually expecting ‘good’ to come from a ‘timely’ Star, then mishap to come with an ‘untimely’ Star, that is, such from just only having noted ‘a’ Star. Comparatively, it said nowhere that, if relying on directionology, and if you thought to avoid breaking a bone by not traveling into the direction of an ‘untimely and inauspicious’ Star, such that you would be then ‘smart enough’ to travel into the direction of a more ‘timely and auspicious’ Star, that not could you be breaking a bone or two, just the same, only now thanks exactly to such ‘timely’ and ‘favorable’ Star. It is just that, now that you traveled towards the ‘favorable’ Star, to avoid breaking a bone associated with the ‘unfavorable’ Star, you may break a bone now associated with the other Star. If anyone asks you why could that be, you may respond with ‘why not’ or ‘well, what were you thinking’. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. H el uo Q i E x pl or at i ons Net he rl an ds

It is safe to say that the greater bulk of consultants and to account of directionology, would be no more than pointing out auspiciousness and inauspiciousness of Stars, as if it was a done deal. All the more happy – initially and thinking at least that was an improvement over the former bunch – would we be in seeing consultants to tell their clients, if they have to travel into an inauspicious direction, they should make sure to be at least well nourished, well rested, well prepared and leaving home along a readiness towards events, so that they can swiftly adapt and adjust. Only, I hope I’m making sense, but I would actually advise anyone to be well nourished, well rested, well prepared and keeping to a readiness towards events, so that they can swiftly adapt and adjust, regardless of who

whatever Star - he was traveling, or even if he was just remaining in his chair to go no places at all. 9 Stars do not keep to a preset agenda and 9 Stars are not able to cause sickness or accident. In order to come into behavior, 9 Stars need an ‘operator’, which in Fei Xing comes as Mountain and Water Principle, Form, Qi and Use. That’s so basic, that it becomes funny having to even mention it, but it also means, you may see the 81 Star Combinations in perspective and in sofar you had not done so already, decide to denounce such tables. Think of it like this. If already along tested Fei Xing prescriptions, it becomes so-so to see 9 Stars classified not along ‘Inside Yun’, but ‘timely’, not along ‘Outside Yun’, but ‘untimely’, alas, but it is immediately then also how far we would ‘allow’ San Yuan to infringe. Saying, if for purpose of Fei Xing – and only there – San Yuan says ‘a’ Star is timely or untimely, that’s as far as
it should go. Unfortunately, we will have seen massive
employment of its then inopportune ‘connotation’, where soon things would extend into ‘timely and auspicious’ and ‘untimely and inauspicious’. That’s one bridge too far. Remember, it is about 9 Stars and to promote the best performance for any Star, with Fei Xing - and along just its basic prescriptions - then well able to handle both a ‘timely’ and ‘untimely’ Star. To that respect, San Yuan is like an infantry scout coming to report to Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui about momentary timeliness for Stars. It will be then probably decorated for splendid services rendered, but it hasn’t entered into the higher ranks where auspiciousness or inauspiciousness would be decided, much less would he sit at the table with the officers where strategies are decided. Which is only good, because if we would let this particular scout, we’d soon see reports about sickness, divorce, lawsuit, disaster, death, then undoubtedly recommendations for surrender. Of course, the mere occurrence of a Star or even a Star combination, is not enough to reach claims to concern of sickness or mishap. This is squarely
1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. H el uo Q i E x pl or at i ons Net he rl an ds
11
against teaching, against life, while actually, it is factually setting aside all Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui is about and would otherwise have to offer. San Yuan is a bit same as in saying that, along any range of 24 hours, we’d have a ‘colder’ part during night time and a ‘warmer’ part during day time, while it’s just that then someone started saying that, one part of the day is timely, the other untimely, then, to make things worse, one is auspicious, the other inauspicious. There you have it, and you wouldn’t accept that. For once and for all see that, we are into practicing Flying Star Feng Shui, we did not practice San Yuan Feng Shui or even Wuxing Feng Shui. San Yuan is no more than a proposal to cling on to ‘a’ calendar, just as Wuxing Five Transformations was to give you a better notion on the earth orbit around the sun, so that we’d have some neat cartography there and we can ‘make soup’ of waxing and waning terrestrial forces during any Solar year. We should trust that, anything added to Fei Xing Feng Shui should then come as a true contribution to Fei Xing Feng Shui. San Yuan is not to take its place and it didn’t even become one of Fei Xing’s operators, which would still be with Mountain and Water and the other basics in place always. You may appreciate that it follows from this that, where we would ‘allow’ San Yuan to rain down on 9 Stars for purpose of house divination in Fei Xing, then designate one Star ‘timely’, another Star ‘untimely’, that’s just notional and it is as far as it should go. Saying, we could at the most look at ‘a’ Star and say that it is ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’ as per San Yuan, but we have no way of knowing if Star is untimely,
then
also
‘inauspicious’
or
timely,
then
also
‘auspicious’.
Auspicious or not, this will be decided not by the Star as such – then least of all the Star combination - but Mountain and Water, Form, Qi and Use. What the table with 81 Star Combinations didn’t take into account, you may just check - and impermissible by any standards -, is exactly that. Would you be able to tell timely or untimely once I no more than picked either one of 9 Stars, say Star 1 or 6? You could only tell timely or untimely once being shown then prevalent 20 year Feng Shui Period. If then next,

Thing is, each these systems come with ‘operators’ of their own, then timeliness as proposed by San Yuan, as it is, exclusively made applicable for Fei Xing Feng Shui. Only once then we had gathered a clear take on what 9 Stars bode and such still one stage before any application on our left hand side would tell us the 9 Stars would ‘behave like this’, while the other application would tell us the 9 Stars would ‘behave like that’, could we be stepping into responsible practice. As it is, you’d know how to mirror any Star combination against what’s in your Fei Xing tool box, so that you would be busy enough minding all those techniques derived from the Mountain and Water Principle, Form and Qi, distribution of energy. Not just would 81 Star Combinations as they are commonly in use distract from what really matters in our handling Mountain Dragons and Water Dragons in our Flying Star chart, we’d be better off without at all such tables and we should be disconcerted to see such then rather massive and uncritical employment of tables such as the one discussed here. While in itself, at first, it could seem an interesting enough table – virtually everyone wants to have it - it must be said that, by very nature of 81 Star Combinations, the subject requires our rather lengthy inspection, if only to avoid common misperception and grave mistake. We will work towards presenting the table with 81 Star Combinations here, but not after listing what should come before at all we’d consider using it. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. One widely employed approach in Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui, as we assess the floor plan of a built structure, is to focus on combinations formed between Mountain Dragon and Water Dragon, such as here 6-T-8. Practically - once divided a floor plan into eight 45 degrees sectors -, any 45 degrees sector may typically receive 3 Stars, here sample given as 6-T-8, where ‘T’ denotes the Time 6

Star. Star 6 is here Mountain Dragon 6, Star 8

is Water Dragon 8, then communicated as 6-8.
Whereas yet other similar Star alliances can be formed between Mountain Dragon and Time Star or between Water Dragon and Annual Star, we use Mountain Dragon and Water Dragon predominantly, for reason that we wish to be able to appropriately apply the all important Mountain and Water Principle in Fei Xing, where – importantly - Mountain may not be just elevations, but to ‘close’ or disallow pathway for Qi, Water not just H 2O, but to ‘open’ and allow pathway for Qi. Upon our at any point no more than noting here Star combination

In itself, once you know your 9 Stars and Trigram attributes, you could take such attribute and transport it to any of the 9 Stars and Luoshu systems. If Star 2 is ‘Womb’, it is that in Fei Xing, it is that in 9 Ki. What you can’t do is, transport one type of behavior you saw in one application to the other application, because operators remain fixed with the systems, said differently, what triggered a Star’s behavior in one system, is not what would bring out behavior of the Star in the other system. It’s fundamental. Therefore, where on the one hand you would see Fei Xing designate combinations such as 1-4, 2-3 and 6-7 as ‘good for exams’, ‘Bullfight Sha’ or ‘Clashing Swords’ respectively, same could not transport to Nine Star Ki or 9 Ki Divination, or, if you did, your 9 Ki practice would plunge into fault. If you have been a Flying Star Feng Shui practitioner, most Star portents will be known to you, but before we proceed, I would like to still make sure that we offered some fundamental considerations that should be minded before at all we committed the knowledge of these 81 Star Combinations to actual practice. What I am saying is, you would still work with the 81 Star Combinations as such, then not along such tables as presented here. Imperative in our fully appreciating 9 Stars is that, 9 Stars attributes

If Kun Trigram ☷ for Star 2 is to denote Womb, provision, agriculture, homestead, studies, mother, spouse, mob, inmate, labor mine, zoo, surface we rely on for protection and submerged hollow space in one system of application (where did it say sickness?), it follows same such designation for other 9 Stars and Luoshu applications. Yet, once employed 9 Stars for purpose of Fei Xing Feng Shui – and as such this would be restricted to just that system of application -, you may see sudden connotation linked to Stars and Star combinations, such that we’d see undertone to alternate between ‘favorable Star’ and ‘unbeneficial Star’. However, this will be due not to Fei Xing Feng Shui, as much as it is thanks to S a n Y u a n J i u Y u n (Three Cycles, Nine Periods), that would have each of the 9 Stars span a specific 20-year period, so that for any given time period certain Stars are deemed ‘timely and auspicious’, with other Stars ‘untimely and inauspicious’. San Yuan may be the umbrella under which Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui functions for i t s timing, then not 9 Ki.

F EI X IN G F ENG S H UI AN D 9 K I ARE P ERF E CT LY UNR EL A TE D Then, i m p e r a t i v e for any of us in the field of Fei Xing Feng Shui, if already in Flying Star Feng Shui the eventual auspiciousness of any Star wasn’t solely determined by its ‘timeliness’, only grave mistake could be committed if equally, annual- and monthly Stars as they derive from the autonomous 9 S t a r K i would be deemed timely or untimely. Saying, where already we would be utterly conservative as to our at all employing such connoted table with 81 Star Combinations for purpose of Fei Xing, any connotation there would not apply outside just Fei Xing Feng Shui, certainly not were we to involve from 9 Ki derived annual- and monthly Stars for purpose of Fei Xing, or in our forecasting news event along the stunning art of 9 Ki Divination. Whereas Fei Xing would, then 9 Ki simply wouldn’t borrow from San Yuan. 9 Ki o t h e r w i s e p e r f e c t l y u n r e l a t e d t o F e i X i n g F e n g S h u i , then certainly 9 Ki not answering to San Yuan timing. Annual and monthly Stars in 9 Ki are a l w a y s t i m e l y , so, if those 81 Star connotations employed irrespective of Form and Use in Fei Xing, or if indiscriminately transported what would be ‘Feng Shui’ notions to from 9 Ki derived annual- and monthly Stars, either way your practice will be stalled. It’s subtle and you may ponder, but where San Yuan performs 180 : 9 = 20, the ‘9’ there is not energy, it’s 9

Objective in San Yuan is to split up a larger cake into bitable pieces, whereas ‘9’ in 9 Star Ki is to handle 9 Stars. implications suggested in the table - and even so much as present the 81 Star Combinations -, with ample reservation, because, as always, lists and tables could only just quantify energy and are in no way to be taken rigidly. If you took a moment to oversee connotations glued onto 9 Stars in the Flying Star chart due to San Yuan’s take on ‘timely’ and ‘untimely’, then ‘auspicious’ and ‘inauspicious’, while at the same time you realize that same 9 Stars would always be t i m e l y , pure and indivisible in 9 Star Ki, then furthermore you realize that from 9 Ki derived annual- and monthly Stars are not Fei Xing Feng Shui or relating in any way to San Yuan, but could so much as be employed for purpose of house divination in Feng Shui, then, in mind such distinguishment, you would be interested to go on a web search and take in e.g. annual Star 5, see what’s being said to account of the a l w a y s t i m e l y annual- and monthly Stars. 1 99 9- 201 3. Sample one Before we proceed, we could ask a question while using the example of a door with 3-7, which would be Mountain Dragon 3 along a Water Dragon 7, while noting that San Yuan would deem both Star 3 and Star 7 ‘untimely and inauspicious’ during Period 8. Which, as a Feng Shui consultant, that would be back to either one of two scenarios, in mind then also that, because it has the door and all else being equal, Water Dragon 7 would be Host, Mountain Dragon 3 would be Guest. One approach is in ‘Mountain Dragon doesn’t go Down Water; Water Dragon doesn’t go Up Mountain’ and in telling your client to open the door onto the Water Dragon 7, so that it 3
T
gets admitted into the house, while in the

process this would nullify Mountain Dragon 3.
Even that is still a bit crude, but at least this approach oversees that, ‘a’ designated ‘untimely and inauspicious’ Star could still be made to exert its beneficial properties. If in seeing these Stars, you’d say “yes, but either one is untimely”, then, by all means, I know where you’re coming from, but to say ‘untimely and inauspicious’ would be one ‘inauspicious’ too many. We give appropriate Mountain and Water, irrespective of Star then timely or untimely, which, anyway, such designation came from San Yuan. Now, as you scroll to the table at 3-7 and in disregard of Mountain and Water, you will see that the other approach would be in telling client he’d be crippled, looking at armed robbery, burglary, lawsuit, sickness, betrayal and scams, some then once more leaving Mountain and Water for what it is, then probably asking client to work with colors and physical objects, chosen for their Wuxing properties, all in an attempt to ward off disaster. If only we made sure to be working with just basic Fei Xing prescriptions and not even tempted to refer to any calamities, this could leave our client to still belief he was living in a house – and that we were employing a real profession -, while the other approach would soon make client feel like he was living in a sure battle field. In other words, using or not using 81 Star Combinations is one thing, minding Feng Shui vocabulary another. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. H el uo Q i E x pl or at i ons Net he rl an ds

door in the Northeast location of the house, but such that it receives Water Dragon 9 from out of North direction. If you work from the table with the 81 Star Combinations, then not counting Heaven’s Heart, you’d be looking at 16 Star combinations for Mountain and Water.
It becomes clear that, if at all, it be best to share any such table with 81 Star Combinations only after we had secured anyone’s firm foundation in Oriental cosmology, because even after we would have emphasized here that we could not just look at 9 Stars or the 81 Star Combinations without first our having secured so many other persistent dynamics into play, experience shows that people tend to say ‘yes, I understand’, and the next thing you know is, you’d still see the table squarely applied. Much as in drag ‘n’ drop, we could see the Star portent from table with 81 Star Combinations pulled along the floor plan until it ends up over the bed, the furnace or our desk without further looking at Fei Xing prescriptions. Problem is, the table hosts so many diseases and mishap, that soon, only just 2 combos would suffice to take a n y Flying Star chart to checkmate. Just your knowing your 9 Stars and Trigram attributes, would have told you which Star governs which organ. If then Mountain Dragon and Water Dragon minded along just basic Fei Xing Water and Mountain Principles, this is what will gear up the Star just appropriately. You don’t need the table with the 81 Star Combinations. If it helps, I never looked at it, not even for sake of reference. It is ludicrous, squarely against teaching, but so widespread, it is not funny anymore. At the same time, this cannot be a reason not to share the Star portents, if only for academic reasons, but I would point out to you that the information shared in such tables will be of course strongly out of context, and it would require yet endured formal training in order to actually learn to apply the information in an appropriate way. What such table actually suggest is that, in itself, the information would already be in no more than just seeing ‘a’ Star or Star combination, certainly

We know that, as such, there is no information at all in a combination such as 9-4 or 3-6, so that, just knowing the portents for the Bullfight Sha combo of 2-3, the Clashing Swords of 6-7 or those so-called Stars of illness 2-5 is not sufficient without knowing how to handle it. Just employing those without further discrimination would be highly emblematic and mechanical. What lays bare in such combinations will be revealed only after we filtered the combination through what will be collectively called F o r m a n d Q i , beginning with the factor time in Flying Star Feng Shui - which again, is only so because it hangs from the San Yuan doctrine -, then such combination mirrored against either present or absent environmental Mountain and Water, as well as direction, location, magnitude, proportion, transportation, distribution, frequency, intensity, context and so on, until each one of these could further alter Star behavior. So, before at all you would think to resort to ‘a’ table, there’s plenty of work ahead. I mean, with client central, and in an attempt to ward off sickness, what to think of minding diet and food intake. Keep in mind that, before we can decide what a combination may actually portent or which Feng Shui adjustments would apply, we need factor in a vast string of considerations, all simultaneously and this of course takes experience. Your such experience will be based in: “Mountain
and
Water
Principle
in
place,
any
Star
–
whether deemed timely or untimely by San Yuan – can be made to exert its beneficial temperament”. Which is little more than your solid practice in saying: •
A Star deemed auspicious by notion of timeliness in San Yuan would need little effort to bring out its favorable portents, while with ill Form and Qi, it can be still made to exert its unfavorable portents;
•
A Star deemed inauspicious by notion of San Yuan timeliness would need little effort to bring out its unfavorable portents, while with appropriate Form and Qi, it can be still made to exert its favorable properties.
This alone suggests that actually, such lists as we will here discuss for 81 Star Combinations would be pretty redundant. As you will see, one after the other Star combination would lure you into supposition, then active statement, then ultimately – if not you’re on guard – mechanical practice. As you may do just a quick scroll to the table with the 81 Star Combinations, you will see how the table actually becomes a ‘we know things’ and ‘anyone’s guess’ sum up of such and such disorder in such and such organ with such and such Star combination, which we’d have already established,

If it were for this table, soon your house would be a battle zone, all impeded by sickness, unfaithfulness, failed exams, divorce, accident, mishap, disaster and that couldn’t be the purpose of Feng Shui. For exact reason that Fei Xing Feng Shui would be able to note, then adjust any occurrence, you can easily see how this table is actually against Fei Xing. If Star 2 and besides a whole listing of other things, denotes Womb, then we can look up Star 2 in the table, see where it locates in our Flying Star chart, then take ‘Womb’ as a road sign, a first proposition. If your desk is having a Star 2, you wouldn’t say ‘Womb on my desk’, much less would you transport the ‘sickness’ suggested by the table to where your desk is, until, actually, such Star 2 could be doing just fine – due to all Form and Qi in place – and Star 2 could come as just studies, or your actively lecturing. Then again and with neither one Star portent intended to be more than a first proposition, before long, such propositions became gospel. Teaching has it that, in order to have the auspiciousness for the ‘favorable’ Star, we would still need all Fei Xing prescriptions in place, just as in order to have the inauspiciousness for the ‘unfavorable’ Star, all ‘wrongs’ should be in place, which in fact, in order to achieve the latter, wouldn’t be e a s y . Note that, already before we even got to the 81 Star Combinations of it, we have been summing up certain ‘buts’, which we do not mention to discourage you, but rather of course to further empower you. You will note how combinations as suggested by the table, may or may in most cases not even take the timeliness of Stars into account. While we are in Feng Shui Period 8 (2004-2024), you may see just copy/paste from the table that had been in use already for Feng Shui Period 7 (1984-2004). It would help to have a working knowledge of the Twelve Stages of Life as employed for purpose of Four Pillars of Destiny Bazi, the derived from there phases of Sheng, Wang, Tui and Si (ascending energy, prime energy, retreating energy, dead energy) during different Feng Shui Periods before you even attempted to apply the subject in actual practice. In Period 8, Star 8 is not ‘timely’, as it is just Inside Yun (Dé Yùn 得運 ), while other Stars are not ‘untimely’, but just Outside Yun (Shī Yùn 失運 ). During Period 8, Star 8 assigns duty to his ministers, such that a capable Star 7 Ministery of Finance is in Southeast province, a capable Star 2 Ministery of Education in Northeast province. Then, in itself, each minister on duty can hire a work force, one time hiring from Wuxing, another time from 12 Stages of Life, but job is not synonymous to duty. Timeliness, vibrancy rather, is with Wuxing or 12 Stages of Life, not with the Ruler or his ministers, which is about sovereignty, hierarchy at the realm of mandate, assigned duty. Whether people subscribe to their Ruler’s decree, or they come into rebellion, this remains outside the scope of the Ruler, so that, whether the Wuxing administrative personnel or the 12 Stages of Life mechanics handle their job well, lies outside the scope of ministers. Also, we must yet importantly supersede those Shuō Guà Zhuán 説 卦 傳 projections, which may actually be still rudimentary, while first and foremost, before we designated anything, such designation should be confirmed of course by just Luoshu, i.e. by following news events along just annual-, monthly- and daily Luoshu. This will be particularly true for 5 Yellow, as it may surface either noble, evil or anything in between. If you possess ‘emperor Qi’, this is what will be brought out. If you study historical occurrences, you may find how Star 5 just merely surfaces what was innate already. F EI X IN G F UND A MEN TA LS Now that we gave you certain 9 Stars and Trigram attributes for purpose of 9 Ki Divination of personal life progression and news events, we may be looking into some fundamentals pertaining Fei Xing Feng Shui, such as, when is a Star untimely (miss Yun) or timely (have Yun), what is Mountain and Water Principle, what is Holy I-Holy 0, what is Form, Qi and Use and certain considerations to account of Qi transportation and Qi distribution. Without these basics, in fact, there is no Fei Xing Feng Shui, whereas, thing is, once basics in place, you’d no longer even consider using any table with 81 Star Combinations. In fact, in mind the above, you would think it pretty alarming to see anyone note ‘a’ Star combination, then exclaim all kinds of events, as it is actually telling you, as per definition, that the practitioner would in fact not be minding the basics. You’d
be
not

at
any
tables,
because
your

and
deployment of just the Mountain and Water Principle (all to account of ‘Mountain Dragon doesn’t Go Down Water and Water Dragon doesn’t Go Up Mountain’), then Body (Tǐ 體 ) and Application (Yòng 用), Host-Guest, as well as your know-how on Yin and Yang and Wuxing would suffice. How a Star behaves, doesn’t rely on the Star as such, much less on the Star combination, which should give argument the more that any attempt to ‘organize’ Stars and Star combinations along mishap, is as per definition not viable. In fact, it would be best to just stay with Host-Guest, then be using the notion of timeliness as per Sheng, Wang, Shuai and Si in favor at the most of then deciding which Star in which 45 degrees Palace was given precedence, where precedence wasn’t to mean auspicious or inauspicious. If for the moment you forget all about timeliness, would you not appropriately employ Mountain and Water Principle onto all 9 Stars? Just upon your looking up a Star combination in a table, didn’t give you which of two Stars was Host or Guest, if the combination occurs in a passive room for one house, an active room for another house, if it is a family, a business, then, what type of business and this is not even speaking of, where is the door, what is the interior pathway, what are the environmental features, such as elevations, sloping grounds, is there H 2O or a road. From this it follows that the whole table becomes an impossibility.

As it is, we have to consider any Star combination: •
In light of the Palace in which the combination appears, with a priority on the Sitting and Facing Palace and the Palace that has the main door.
•
In light of any environmental feature into any direction.
•
In light of the Time period for which we make the consideration.
•
In light of the Host-Guest theory – and primarily observing Mountain and Water Principle - for the Sitting and Facing Palace and the door.
•
In light of Host-Guest theory – still considering Mountain and Water principles, but accepting mere Wuxing applications here in case we cannot apply Mountain and Water - for the other six Palaces.
Which is a crude sum up, as we still did not consider ‘Qi heals Qi; things within the same group move each other’ and ‘have tangible meet with intangible, intangible with tangible’. The very idea where 9 Stars would be deemed alternately timely and untimely, has nothing to do with 9 Stars as such, but only because Fei Xing resorts under the San Yuan Jiu Yun doctrine. Under the umbrella of San Yuan, 9 Stars can gain vibrancy, come to prime during their own 20-year time period, then decline or vanish. Saying, we’d have just 9 Stars and 8 Trigrams with all of their cosmological attributes, while then we could add all kinds of classifications, so that at one time, we could have 9 Stars mirrored against the earth orbit, another time apparent seasons, while it just so happens that San Yuan then takes the otherwise 180 year time period, divides it to have 18 x 10 Heavenly Stems, 15 x 12 Earthly Branches, then finally, San Yuan takes the 180 years to divide it by 9 () to give 9 x 20 year periods, each assigned one of 9 Stars. It is one way of taking ‘a’ number of years, then find a divisor – 9 in this case - so that of course we would arrive at ‘20’, then assign 9 Stars. This will have you see ‘a’ Star, then mirror it against the current 20-year Period, then see if it is Sheng (rise), Wang (prime), Shuai (decline) or Si (death), that’s all. The only thing this should tell you is, should you be working with a Star, you would have to mind it more to account of the Mountain and Water Principle, while not would we see ‘a’ Star at its prime, then go all ‘hurray’, or we see an untimely Star, then go all berserk as we’d be anticipating its deviousness. We don’t do that, for very reason that there is no such information in the Star as such. The Star is just the Star, what we do onto such Star is what would decide if or to what extent we were able to apply Mountain and Water Principle, then apply all Form and Qi, so that it can bring out its beneficial effect. At no point would we be lured into thinking that ‘a’ Star combination could on its own account produce (fill in, whatever fortunate or unfortunate event) whatever it was that then you saw mentioned in a table. Before resorting to such table, you would have long minded Holy I-Holy 0, the elevation in the right location and into the right direction, and so forth. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. Q I P H A SE S AN D M OM EN T AR Y A LL IAN C E For certain purpose, 9 Stars can be cartographied along San Yuan Jiu Yun, then momentarily made to travel on the wave of 4 (out of an otherwise 12) distinct phases of waxing and waning energy. Notwithstanding, we’d have a firm 9 Stars on the one hand, then here Qi phases on the other hand, whereas along correlative thinking we can then presuppose a clustered figure – a momentary alliance – in our not just saying ‘Star 8’, but ‘Star 8 Wang’, not just ‘Star 9’, but ‘Star 9 Sheng’, noting, however, that what was once description at the domain of ‘association’, may soon well become prescription. Here, 9 Stars become identified with ‘a’ catalogue’ titled ‘Qi phases’, thus rendered alternately timely and untimely. Formally and for purpose of Fei Xing, 9 Stars are either Inside Yun or Outside Yun. If Star 8 is the Ruler in Period 8, somehow it became ‘Wang’, if Star 9 will be the Ruler in Period 9, somehow – in Period 8 – Star 9 became ‘Sheng’. Qi phases discussed here are not equivalent to Stars ‘Inside Yun’ or ‘Outside Yun’. All 9 Stars in Fei Xing remain functional throughout the Feng Shui Periods, albeit computations may have us favor a particular Star if it is Inside Yun, before we would perhaps rely on a Star Outside Yun. Shēng 生 Understood as give birth, life, grow. Upcoming, gaining on vibrancy. In Period 8, Star 9 and Star 1 are noted as Sheng. Energy on the rise, gaining on vibrancy, healthy and alive. We can expect good things to come from Sheng Stars when we find it with the right Form, Qi and Use. Wàng 旺
Understood as prosperous, flourishing energy. Vital energy.
Energy in its ultimate vibrancy, indivisible and pure: most prosperous and prevalent Qi. In Period 8, Star 8 is Wang. However, we just say it is the Ruling Star - Lìng Xīng 令星. Whereas it is then taken as the most Vibrant Qi, during Period 8, Time Star 8 is just the Noble Qi from Heaven. Shuāi* 衰 Decay, decline. Fading vitality. Energy weak, feeble. In Period 8, Star 7 and Star 6 are considered Shuai. Diminished vibrancy and easier to bring out negative portents if Form, Qi, Use not correct. When accompanied by good requirements, still good outcome can be expected to come from it. Sǐ 死
Understood as die, death. Withdrawal of energy. Qi hiding.
Decreased affinity with Human Qi and using Stars that are in Si may more easily render detrimental effect. Examples for Period 8 are Stars 2, 3, 4 and 5 and these require more effort in order to bring out their benevolence. Note that these are 4 phases only out of 12 Stages of Life, so that their designations would be still fairly crude. We can add yet another dynamic, but we will purposely separate it from the previous four, as we need to stress that the four factors mentioned above answer to factors of timeliness, whereas Sha is a malign influence that may not be time related. Shā 殺 Understood as evil spirit, demon. Unfit to use, detrimental and harmful, Sha may relate to wrong form, road, pointed roof, some ugly feature. * Another good term to point to the phase of Shuai would be Tuì 退 - retire, retreat, decline, withdraw. 1 99 9- 201 3. Along current notions in Fei Xing, if we find Mountain or Water Stars in Sheng, Wang, Shuai or Si phase, we need to adjust by giving appropriate Mountain or Water, either real or virtual Mountain, real or virtual Water. If we find any Star compromised by the influence of Sha, we may also rely on Wuxing adjustments. Sha can be imposed by a tree in direct line with a door, a sharp pointy object, a long corridor, a pointed roof, a beam, a road pointing straight at our door, or any other environmental or interior malign influence, tangible or intangible, but supposedly readily discernable. A comparison with seasons shows that in Spring, Wood energy is Wang, it prospers, while the fading season is Winter, so Water energy is declining, it is Shuai. In Spring, Metal energy is in its weakest point and Si, while noting that, rather not would we insist on Wuxing to pertain to real objects, or soon, by saying that ‘Water’ is ‘Si’ in Summer, we would think that ‘Water’ is actually H2O, then probably also that ‘Metal’ is, well, a real lump of metal.

Besides a more or less yet crude four phases shown here, Wood, Fire, Metal and Water in fact run through Twelve Stages of Life, Earth being the exception because Earth keeps to its own cycle of surface and subside. We need to understand that Earth is important throughout a year. Earth is never absent, but it performs ‘Push Hands’ with the other elements throughout a year, allowing each of Wuxing its turn to govern while it participates in a game of waxing and waning. Note that, at the realm of Twelve Earthly Branches, each third month of a season is mostly Earth. Earth is the phase between declining Wood (Shuai) and upcoming Fire (Sheng). U SIN G S T AR S IN F ENG S H UI P ERI OD 7 Relatively, here are some of the projections in use in Fei Xing, while you may note that, it mainly draws from an understanding that Stars can be either Inside Yun (Dé Yùn 得 運 ) or Outside Yun (Shī Yùn 失運 ), whereas somehow, terms such as ‘timely’ or ‘untimely’ got in, but which would not find their equivalent in Chinese terminology and besides the point. At best, designations can be taken to mean that, all else being equal, then given the choice between taking ‘a’ Star 8 or ‘a’ Star 3 into action during Period 8, the former would take precedence. It just means that, given ‘a’ certain Star as Ling Xing, more effort would be needed in order to take the ‘outside Yun’ Star into benevolence. However, nothing comes in place of the Mountain and Water Principle, as in fact, anything else comes after that. Then follow a number of other adjustments in our Fei Xing toolbox, while using table with 81 Star Combinations comes after nothing. During Period 7, Star 7 is
Wang or Prosperous. It is the Commanding Star and it carries the most vital Qi. It should be used at all times and looked after during the whole of Period 7, either as it appears as the Mountain Dragon or as the Water Dragon as fortune relies on Star 7 most directly.
During Period 7, Star 8 is
Sheng, or growing in vitality. It is the second most timely Qi to tap into during Period 7, but its power is not yet strong enough that we would use it without having also minded the Prominent Dragon 7.
During Period 7, Star 9 is
Sheng also, but farther away even than Star 8 as it is only the distant future Wang Qi during Period 7 and only yet enjoying its earlier stages of vibrancy. It is only slightly growing in vitality, but even though its effects not instantaneous or all too obvious, it can be Used.
During Period 7, Star 6 is
Shuai, having lost much of its vitality, but not unprosperous as per definition. When we use Star 6 during Period 7 we should not expect results that are too spectacular, but we can still use its influence for shorter periods of time or to confirm other adjustments made.
During Period 7 and according to San Yuan, all other Stars are Si, untimely, regarded ‘evil’ and unprosperous, to varying degrees, except perhaps Stars 1 and 4 which Stars we may still bring to our advantage because these Stars are Untimely but Usable during Feng Shui Period 7, provided they do not meet wrong Form and Qi. 1 99 9- 201 3. Importantly, then 9 Stars as employed for purpose of 9 Star Ki come into play, such that (only) each 180 years would we have and a Yang Wood 甲 and a Zi Rat 子 and a 1 Water year. We could divide 180 years into 10, into 12, into 9, or into 5 for that matter. What San Yuan Jiu Yun then does is, it no more than takes same 180 years, only this time to divide it by 9 to get 180 : 9 = 20, then it assigns one of 9 Stars to each period of 20 years to get 3 Cycles of 60 years each (San Yuan), then 9 Periods of 20 years each (Jiu Yun). It then goes on to say that the notion of timeliness doesn’t so much as run along Twelve Stages of Life, but these stages further diminished to a much more crude 4 phases (Sheng, Wang, Shuai and Si), then it makes each 20 years of 9 Stars to rely on a notion of said waxing and waning energy, as then finally, San Yuan Jiu Yun glues onto – is being pulled into - Fei Xing Feng Shui. R ID I CUL E Not counting Heaven’s Heart, each house has 16 Star combinations going on between Mountain Dragon and Water Dragon. You will have noted that the table with 81 Star Combinations would mostly have us look at Star combinations as producing sickness and disaster. Let’s look at that more closely and supposing out of those 16 such Star combinations in any Flying Star chart, no more than 2 such Star combos would bode mishap. There will be currently 7 billion people on the planet, but let’s not take that, and stay with just 120 million households in USA alone, with an average household size of 2.6, that’s a lot of Flying Star charts and a good 314 million people being affected. Let’s take away half, to make up for all those houses with one way or another all the right Form and Qi in place, so that ‘bad’ portents wouldn’t have a chance of bringing misfortune. That still leaves us with a good 60 million households with Form and Qi somehow failing Flying Star Feng Shui prescriptions, affecting 156 million people. Not counting Time Stars, that is a two-fold 5 Yellow for any house, Star 2 twice for any house, if we stay with just only Mountain Dragon and Water Dragon and that’s not even involving annual- and monthly Stars 2 and 5. Let’s be sporty and omit those disorders that would be all too terminal, then, that’s still 60 million houses x one time accident due to 5 Yellow, one time intoxication due to 5 Yellow, plus it is one time violated woman due to Star 2, one time illness due to Star 2, so that makes 4 such events x 60 million = 240 million incidences of mishap. That’s a lot of occurrences, even if these were to occur once a year or every 5 years only and that wasn’t counting other Stars for lawsuit, divorce, vomiting blood, brain dead, terminal disease, flooding, burglary, whatsnot. Whenever you study metaphysics, try do so as a scholardetective. Whatever you teach as an instructor or proclaim as a consultant, try imagine yourself in front of an audience, with a scholar there, a psychiatrist and a child. Some have wondered, why ‘science’ has not been taking Chinese Feng Shui seriously. It is feasible that science would look at our field differently, once we stopped ridiculing the art ourselves. Once you run through the table, try read it with to the back of your mind what it would actually mean to have such all out mishap as it says there, not for a single country, but the entire planet. No wonder mankind has been looking to seek refuse on Mars. If you go out to audit the house of a client and you see x-y combination, you would have added nothing significant if then comes out nothing had ever been the matter for the family, then still you told those people that they will have divorce, sickness, failing exams and unfaithfulness, unless those Stars are ‘cured’. 1 99 9- 201 3. Many people then ask if there is a list available to discuss the combinations mirrored against Period 8. There isn’t one at the time this discourse was published, and it does not seem necessary. Some
of
the
combos
are

auspicious results, either regarding health or wealth. Most Star combos portent harm, accident or sickness, but you have to think that these are mere active statements and all inadequate. The table shouldn’t be there. This is simply because as per definition anything stated in the table may be just shorthand for what would have otherwise easily come as 2 or 3 pages of teaching, explaining each portent.
Officially, ok. Client calls the Feng Shui consultant, after his website said that Feng Shui was to bring b al anc e and harmon y. That’s promising enough, so, with otherwise his life going well for the client, he still thinks it wouldn’t hurt to be somewhat minding the energetic structure of the house. He invites the consultant in anticipation. By the time the consultant leaves, client would be breaking down from both his ankles, as it would suddenly seem how virtually any corner of his house would bode ‘divorce’ and ‘bankruptcy’, if not, terminal disease in such and such organ. Not just that, client no longer has a house or ‘a’ Star 5 on his desk, but came in all adjectives, so his is now a ‘terrible’ house and a ‘disastrous’ Water Dragon 5, or some other occurrence that will ‘definitely’ lead to… (fill in). It is easy to see how this does not remotely lean to what would be a Feng Shui audit, but little more than consultant’s yet another time proclaiming his no doubt meanwhile-committed-tomemory table with the 81 Star Combinations, then - eureka -, if only client could then buy this windchime and install that statue, while at no point in this scenario Moun tain an d Water Princ ipl e minded. We would wish that the only thing being riduculed here was the art of Feng Shui, but client’s mind and heart all saturated with Sha Qi and consultant only ready to spread more apprehension and anxiety as he’d be hopping on to his next little ‘lecture’ in 81 Star Combinations.

For example, let’s listen to what two imaginary masters have to say: One claims: “Water Dragons are good for Wealth”, full stop. The other says: “W AT E R D R A GO NS are Yang, active, mobile and cause for events. Whether these events turn out to be favorable will depend on many factors such as timeliness, direction, proportion, location, regularity, magnitude, distance, Form and Qi, use, transportation, distribution and if all these are in support of each other and within context, while, if then not at the same time also being challenged by wrong timing or Sha Qi, Water Dragons may portent favorable events. If all that in place - and on top of this people healthy and enterprising -, events may then eventually culminate into W E AL T H ”. Well, the former is just short for the latter, but you can see how the ancient master using the longer description would have soon lost his audience, while his colleague using the short version would be the one with most clients, but see, he would want to pull in more clients than that even. The s c h e m e is, if then he’s also the one to proclaim the s i c k n e s s , it will be assumed that he must also have the m e d i c i n e . The client then has the sickness and the medicine, the consultant his clients. This becomes evident with such blunt phrases as “Star 2 causes sickness, Star 5 causes disaster”. From this, it’s a small step or we’d have the table with 81 Star Combinations. You will appreciate how here fear and awe would come into play. One goes to energy, the other to the teacher and consultant. It works, as a fair portion of our audience would be susceptible to anxiety and easily made an appeal on where it comes to apprehension as in ‘some external factor controls me’. Some so convinced in the mean time of ‘certain’ incoming hostilities at the realm of just mere electromagnetism, that not only would they dread environment or 9 Stars, but apprehension extended such, that a constant notion of having to live under energetic threat would have made it to their very being, as such thinking that ‘a’ magnitude ‘other than human’ would be there to hold the house under threat, now suspecting their chair and bed, front door, vase, their own body, the direction they’d be traveling into the next day to be against them, some literally requesting for ‘cures’ now that they started believing even their spouses or children would be ‘against’ (Ke) them. That may be something, but it ain’t Feng Shui. So, once you go over the tables with the combinations, make sure to keep a healthy distance, understanding that anything you find there would be pending many factors. Always think context and proportion and you will be fine. Without the proper background - and a technically, theoretically and historically correct training -, people can easily become frightened. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. Water Dragons Water Dragons are for events, rather not ‘wealth’. Wealth comes with sustained labor and being out there day in and day out to perform and be minding your networking. If we describe beneficial properties of a Water Star, generally it is assuming a one-on-one relationship between a certain Water Star and a supporting environmental feature coming under the Water Principle, like an actual body of water, open land or a road. Waters, roads and pathways are a vehicle to Qi, and can have Yang Qi flow towards or away from a location into and from any of the eight magnetic directions. Water Dragons, apart from money and career associations, manage your active life, the quality and skill you employ to manage life out there and the style in which you seek to achieve your goals. We say that, ‘timely’ Water Dragons and those that are not antagonized – e.g. Water Star 7 alongside a Star 8 -, will lead to positive events, ‘untimely’ Water Dragons or those otherwise under ill influence – e.g. Water Star 7 or Water Star 8 but

Presence or absence of H 2O - location, direction, intensity, volume -, tell us if and in what way Water Dragons’ intrinsic potential may be awakened and to what extent. To concern of bodies of water, these may promote trade, travel, it may bring in new ideas, it may invite war and sickness. Mountain Dragons Mountain Dragons are for behavior, rather not ‘health’. Health is a biological-physiological commodity and goes hand in hand with our keeping daily activities in sinc with the progression of day and night, drinking our water, minding diet and a good listing of other factors, such as how you’d sustain your readiness towards events, self reflection and conduct towards self, others and the environment. Nonetheless, when we describe beneficial properties of any Mountain Stars, it is assuming a one-on-one relationship between a certain Mountain Star and a well supporting elevation. Mountain Dragons associate with people’s temperament, personalities, their quality, their deeper attitudes, what their hidden agenda might be, their broad outlook on matters of life, fertility. Mountain Dragons tell us the quality and skill used by the people to manage internal life, family life, social life, and it tells about conduct, character and behavior. Questions could be raised as to, is it a noble people, does the country produce an evil people, are they traders, farmers, more likely scholars, are they focused inwardly or seek to explore across boarders and meet with other peoples.

81 S TA R C OM B INA TI ON S The descriptions to introduce a Star are formulated by me - while still largely within context of conventions native to Fei Xing Feng Shui - the Star connotations to come under such listings as 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 et cetera are not. Star 1 White Star 1 Water is closely linked to kidney, bladder and the reproductive system in both males and females. Star 1 further governs lymphatic system, blood, ears, joints, hair, skin, libido. It is associated with the middle son or matured males. Also associated with loneliness, abandonment, theft, darkness, death, suicide and sex. Star 1 is also one of the Literary (Academic) Stars, and socalled fortunate White Stars (1,6 and 8). Star 1 (together with Star 4) was considered Untimely but Usable during Period 7. Starting Period 8, Star 1 will be considered Distant Future Ruling Star and we need to nourish it in Period 8. 1 – 1

Star 2 Black 2 Earth Star governs digestive system (stomach, spleen, pancreas), more specifically stomach. It is associated with the womb (hence black), pregnancy, abdominal region, mother and older females. It is considered highly auspicious – inviting health and fertility (read: many and good children) - only in its own Period (for the duration of Feng Shui Period 2) – and even under the exact right circumstances able to bring great wealth -, but it is widely considered one of the Evil Stars and Stars of Illness immediately outside its own Yun (Period). 2 – 1
Divorce. Conflict between husband and wife, wife rejects husband, abdominal pain. Abortion, miscarriage. Sickness of the reproductive system. Impotence. Problem with hair or ear.
2 – 2
One of stronger portents for sickness, especially with 5 or 2 flying in or in the Kun Palace. Be mindful if this combination occurs in the South or with Star 9. Widow. Two (possibly homosexual) females.
2 – 3
Bull fight Sha. Conflict, arguments, combat, lawsuit, disharmonies. Problems for mother. Another reading says: son harassing mother-inlaw, pointing to the possibility that a male violates a woman. However, before we go out to judge the man, it may be interesting to consider how during Period 8, Star 2 is untimely and evil, which means we may be dealing with an aggressive woman, whom may have then provoked the abuse. Star 3 is leg, Star 2 is belly and womb, so it may be that in its most severe reading, the woman is hurt at the belly (while pregnant).
2 – 4
Spleen disorder. Widow. Bad odor. Woman harassing mother in law – or two females caught up in dispute - when hit by a straight road. Mental disease, gloominess.
2 – 5
Disastrous, accidents, bankruptcy, sickness (possibly cancer of the digestive system) and death in both spouces, especially with annual 2 or 5. Haunted house, especially with annual 6. ‘Ghosts’ which may just mean so much as, fragmentary thinking, unfocused, weird ideas. Should not leave this situation unattended.
2 – 6
Wealthy. Attraction between man and woman, probably not leading to marriage and weak portent for sexual engagements because of likely pre-occupation with spirituality, so Monk and Nun rather. (Male) being away for spiritual development.
2 – 7
Fire hazard, especially in the South, Southwest or West or when accompanied by Star 9, or sharp pointy objects such as mountain. Wealthy but unproductive, diarrhea, burn down when evil mountain and water. Fertility problems. Woman harassing mother in law when hit by a straight road. Loose romance and gossip.
2 – 8
Wealthy, associated with the odd sickness depending on Form and Qi, but fairly ok during Period 8. Younger man engaging with older female.
2 – 9
Stupidity, mentally retarded, loss of vision (both physical and mental) obstacles in business, bad for children and males. Peach blossom. 1 99 9- 201 3. A ll r ight s res erv ed. H el uo Q i E x pl or at i ons Net he rl an ds

Star 3 Jade 3 Wood Star governs liver and gall bladder, legs and arms. It is associated with the eldest son, middle-aged men and husband. Star of ambition, inventions, sales, moving to take a trip, social life, ranking, determination, persistence, impulse, gambling, stubborness and fairly easy to aggravate or irritate. 3 – 1

Star 4 Green 4 Wood Star governs liver and gall bladder, it is connected to the thy and it may depict pulmonary problems. Star 4 is governed by Trigram Wind and it represents the capacity to breath, the chest area. It is associated with the eldest daughter or middle-aged women. Star 4 is also one of the Stars of Romance (Peach Blossom) and it can introduce arts besides immorality, and lead to drinking, unethical behavior, unfaithfulness. Birth of daughters. It was Untimely but Usable during Period 7. 5 Yellow In terms of Fei Xing Feng Shui and except during its own Period, 5 Earth is associated with accident and misfortune, especially when found with a Star 2 or another Star 5, a Star 9 or in the Li (Fire) Palace. Star 5 can be also easily challenged, aggrevated or irritated, so we also need to be mindful in case we find Star 5 controlled by Star 3 or by Star 4 even. It should be taken care off at all times and it is associated with accidents and mishap. During its own Period (inside Yun) it is believed that Star 5 invites great fortune, wealth, success and authority. It governs the digestive system, more specifically pancreas. It is regarded the Emperor, but we cannot know if we deal with a noble or a tyrannic emperor. On the other hand, and besides the more widely discussed and accepted properties of this Star being intrusive, violent, easily aggravated and instrumental in accidents (possibly even self afflicted and actual fighting) or prison time, I believe that Star 5 is being gravely underestimated through this type of descriptions, or treated injustly, where I also believe that Star 5 – once understood and once its secrets are unlocked – can bring considerable success and personal autonomy and authenticity. At the same time, we need to be mindful concerning this Star. 5–1
Cancer in the reproductive system. Deafness. Sexual problems and problems with libido. Hair loss.

6 White 6 Metal Star is one of the Military Stars and it may depict a sudden impact (“Sudden Stop”). However, its military reign may still be just and fair. It governs the lungs and large intestine and is associated with the lower jaw. It also governs the head and skull. It is associated with father and elderly men. It was considered untimely but hardly unfriendly during Period 7 (Star 6 is one of the so-called White Stars), but it is considered Untimely but Usable during Period 8. It means we can work on the Star 6 during Period 8 more successfully, but we must not expect too drastic or quick results from it. Star of long life, dedication, determination, advancement, morals, leadership. 6–1

7 Red Like Star 6, Star 7 is considered a military Star (Po Jun Star in the Big Dipper: “Breaker of Armies”), but its military reign may be more likely injust, vicious and destructive, especially out of its own Period or otherwise challenged. It governs the large intestine, the upper jaw, the teeth and the mouth. It is associated with the youngest daughter, young girls, females, wife. It is connected to the 1 Water Trigram and the kidneys (and therefore associated with libido, romance, and also blood) through its upper Trigram line (Yao). It is associated with knives and cuts, gossip and bad-mouthing. Star 7 is often wrongly translated as ‘Lake’. A lake would be more likely coming under the 1 Water Trigram. A better translation for the Star 7 Trigram would be ‘Marsh’. 7 – 1 Robbery (probably armed and fairly violent). Brothel. Possible romance outside relationship. Flirting. 7 – 2 Fire hazard, especially in the South, Southwest or West or when accompanied by Star 9, or sharp pointy objects such as mountain. 7 – 3 Unexpected gain in business. 8 White 8 Earth Star is associated with success and the youngest son and young men. It governs the abdominal region, the digestive system – more specifically the spleen - and it governs the smaller bones in the body (fingers, toes, ribs, nose). Star 8 is considered one of the fortunate White Stars, 1,6 and 8 and it is appreciated for its nobility and steadfastness. With bad Form and Qi, Star 8 can cause disloyalty and rioting. It also depicts built structures and it reads ‘Revolution and Change’. Currently, Star 8 is the Commanding Star during Period 8 (2004-2024), the most Prominent Star. 8 – 1
Diseases of the reproductive system and ears. When taken well care of, can be still successful.

Also if you see Star 1 to come under control of Star 2 or Star 5 (1-2, 1-5). Star 2 and 5 are collectively referred to as Evil Stars or Stars of Illness during Period 7 and Period 8. More specifically Star 2 is said to cause sickness, Star 5 associates with accidents. Especially Star 5 can be easily aggravated.
Both Stars basically govern the digestive system, but we need to Read the Stars to find which other organs may be involved. We need mind the Lungs with 5-6, the reproductive organs with 5-1, the Liver with Star 5 connected to Star 3.

Other – more subtle - relations between Stars can be established, e.g. those connecting Stars through exterior or interior pathways. An example is the Bull Fight Sha combination between Stars 2 and 3, known for causing lawsuits and arguments. An x
