Chapter 1
Executive summary
I recently have done my internship in City 42 TV, in which I got training from its news production department. The internship basically revolved around the information knowledge training. The system, the style of working & the commitment of the employees in newsroom is really exemplary. In this report I have given a very brief review of what I have seen during our internship I have mentioned all these as I have made an internship as according to the schedule. I mentioned about the City 42 TV channel in Lahore. Then I have done a detailed internship description and duties performed by me. Then I have discussed about my learning in the whole internship that is all about the different departments of City 42 TV channel. I have made it possible to write each and every thing that I have learnt there. I have all my practical efforts in the form of this manuscript that’s the asset for my future career. Main purpose the internship was to extract the practical knowledge by working in a dynamic organization in order to apply the knowledge acquired during MA (Mass Communication) programme. Report includes the depth of organization which I have been worked. My report will be the outcome of the internship work and experience gathered during the time of my working at City 42 TV. The study will be focused on news arrangement, news reporting for audio-visual media with an experience of newsroom learner and also news coverage of Current Affairs, Health, Sports, Business and Showbiz issues in City 42 TV as an intern of the department of Media.
Through this internship, I was able to meet and interact with different people from media field including reporters, doctors, journals and analysts. I am sure that this report will provide you a complete and clear image of organization.

Introduction

Organization’s description and Environment: City 42 TV is a media organization working in Lahore, Punjab. It is the first channel operating in the country which is completely devoted only to news of Lahore. This organization offers a favorable environment. It encourages people to learn and implement their innovative ideas. The management was cooperative and helpful, promoting, facilitating and accommodating. There were departments defined in the organization in order to fulfill the desired tasks.

Any kind of news are monitored and captured in the monitoring and capturing department, then that news is processed in the Non Linear Editing department where the news are edited after monitoring or capturing. Then the edited news is transferred to Program control room where the footages and news are on aired. The instructions are given to newscaster from the program control room and processed in Master control room. Different types of news are segmented in segmentation department.

Planning is being done in the News Production department that which news is to be telecasted and which is not. What kind of modified news would be on Aired, in what form and style by which the viewers will get attracted. Organizing is being done in the Monitoring and Capturing department because in organizing the resources are being allocated. As in the monitoring and capturing department all the news are being gathered due to different resources i.e. other news channels, Outside broadcasting Van, representators, Websites of other news channels and through resources.
The function of controlling is done by two departments in the channel that are “Program control Room” and “Master control Room” In program control room the controller controls all the news which is telecasted. In Master Control Room all the news which are finalized in the Non linear Editing room are being On Aired. There are three cameras operating simultaneously. One camera is focused towards one news caster; another camera focuses the second news caster while the third camera focuses on both the news caster. Three of these cameras are controlled by specific keys called “camera cues”. The keys used to operate the cameras were set on the keyboard. These keys were of two types; one is main key and other is preview keys. Main keys were f2 i.e. for two shot, f3 and f4 for solo shot. The preview keys were 2, 3, 4, which were used for previewing. Furthermore, the backgrounds of the news room also called virtual set are also controlled in the program control room.

Chapter 2
Description of internship During my one month of internship I performed many duties which added a lot to my learning and experience. All the tasks that I executed gave me a sense of responsibility. Sometimes there was too much responsibility on me, there was excess of work and work load was divided by assigning tasks to several people. Yet I learned each and every function and made an active participation in every function of the organization. At times, things were slow, yet I wanted to work more because I had blurred the lines between work and fun. Duties performed: Following tasks and duties were performed by me during my internship.
The first department I worked in was Monitoring and capturing. Here, we were assigned to capture the important news or footages telecasted on any channel through a board consisting of fifteen to twenty televisions and digital video switcher. A device called “switch over” was used which were connected by audio and video leads to different Channels, live feeds and OB vans. All the information, video and audio, captured were to be placed in different folders. The news was to be shared by networking into different computers. Another job in this department was to tikker ; any breaking, important news on the slides was to be written within seconds and passed on to the tikker writer who meant to on air the breaking news. 10 | P a g e

The Second Department in which I worked was segmentation department. In the segmentation department we divide news into segments. Three segments were made in this department: o
Showbiz Segment
o
Sports Segment
o
Business Segment
Further in this department we made news. Inpage was used to make the news. Firstly EPS (Encapsulated post script file) was made of any kind of news. EPS is basically another tikker which is posted along the footage. After EPS, OC (On Camera) and VO (Voice Over) is made. OC is of maximum two to three lines while VO is the detailed news having no specific limit.
OC is basically that part of news which the News Caster is delivering and image of News caster is being displayed on the TV.
VO is that part of news on which the footage is displayed and the News Caster is reading the news behind the footage. EPS is saved by a specific process in Inpage through exporting, before exporting it, we save the news in the Inpage simply and after exporting the news, EPS is made and all other news are saved in the rich text form. When the whole process of making news is complete, in order to circulate the news in the whole channel, that news is shared through networking in a folder. The files which are required in the folder to access the news are: Inpage, Footages, Rich Text Form and EPS. All the news which were made in the Bulletin were made in coding such as; BS1 for business news, SP2 for sports SB3 for Showbiz etc.
The third Department in which I worked is NLE (Non Linear Editing Department) In the non linear editing department all the news and footages which were captured were being edited and all the news were sorted out that which news is important or

Internship report on City 42 TV not and which news should be on Aired and which should not be. All the footages were edited there in the NLE department.
In Program control room and master control room basically the news which were sent from NLE were telecasted with the help of latest equipment and the function of this department is also to make a connection with the news Caster, the device which was used to make a contact with the news caster was named as Talkback. The Virtual Set/Background was also changed through this department as per news timings i.e. new set for morning news and another set for evening news/show. All the news was arranged in the sequence on daily basis in this department and if any breaking news arrives then it was adjusted in the queue of the news. The voice control and colour toning of background was also done in this department. Transition speed was also controlled in this department with the help of chroma keys, the options which were there to control and dissolve the transition were (Small, Medium and Fast). We used to control the transition and camera by using the transition keys as it was our duty in that department. When there was any live call (beeper) then we were supposed to tell the news caster through talkback that a call has been on hold and you have to talk to that specific person on Air.
In Research Department all the research was conducted regarding any topic, on the daily basis research was conducted on many topics. We use to make slides, home remedies, diet plan for different diseases, pictures related to the topic. We use to make important strips for health watch. The important strips we used to make were of Guests name with his specialization, Today’s topic, Documentary, Live call number along with the caller name, Signs and symptoms related to the topic, Remedies related to topic and finally end credits. Apart from all that, our seniors assign us some topic on daily basis and we use to search on the assigned topic as per their requirements.

Challenges: For City 42 TV channel there are some challenges which mainly are:
New advance technology in the globalized world is a challenge for news channels in order to compete and to remain in the competition.
In Pakistan, more than two dozen media channels are operating. Competition is getting even tougher day by day. In such a competitive environment survival of the fittest is possible only.
Quick reporting, efficiently and effectively is needed.

Internship report on City 42 TV Programs and their genre are increasing on every channel. To keep the transmissions engaged to attract our viewers is inevitable and one of the greatest challenge.
Conclusions: Internship in City 42 TV was a learning experience where I managed to put in my competencies and enhanced my abilities in order to get a close view of practical work and corporate sector. I learnt how media channels work and how hectic the job is to get the news delivered. Hence working in a team is inevitable. The entire functions of the organization are well learned and practiced and add a lot to my experience.

Internship report on City 42 TV City 42 TV is still striving to make its place in the market. Competition is tough and in order to sustain its Survival City 42 TV should be going through evaluation. Following recommendations should be considered.
The channel must provide itself with up to date technology.
It should have proper OB vans and enough correspondents for the reporting purpose.
Different training courses should be arranged for the up lifting and improving the quantity of work for employees.
News delivery should be done effectively.
Employees should get appraisals in the form of bonus for over time work
There is also a problem of work overload for the employees and it should be control properly so that the employees are motivated.
Friendly environment must be practiced.
