LENORMAND the grammar technique During the next weeks we are going to prepare the pillars we need to read the cards. One simple technique to achieve that is the “grammar technique”. It consists of attaching a group of NOUNS, ADJECTIVES and VERBS to each of the cards. When facing 3, 4 or more cards, we’ll be able to create some sentences with them. Let's imagine that each of the cards is a type of hieroglyph, with which you can construct sentences. As each card is a hieroglyph we have to observe it to try to g rasp what it wants to convey to us. For example, let's take the Rider.
We can see a Rider, the number 1, and in some decks, 9 hearts (most of decks will be like that, just stick to your chosen deck). Let's observe and think about this card during a moment: 1. who is this guy? this rider? By the time these cards were first designed, "riders" could be the equivalent of "postmen". People used to write and send letters with important information, or news about the family or government through riders, postmen who travelled from town to town. We have yet another image. For those connected with the T a r o t w e c a n fi n d t h e "knights" of the deck. Knights usually went to
pursue fame, to war, etc, and when they returned home they brought news. For those invaded, they were foreigners. So, the Rider, must be a young man, possibly from a foreign origin ,who brings news, quite healthy. As he's a Rider, and spends all day long up and down with info in his bag, he might have problems with joints (think about the health problems riders have). One of the things that can help you with learning the cards is imagining a short tale about its main character :) Give it a try! 2. What about the number? 1 is the number of beginnings, starting things. Also the potential for
LENORMAND the grammar technique something to happen. 3. What about the hearts? The 9 of hearts is a "wish card". It talks about fortune, dreams, romance, achievement, friends, emotions, happiness. It may talk about a dream coming true. 4. Eeeer... but hey, what about the 9 of hearts according to Etteila? Well, according to him, the 9 of hearts it's related to Victory, being curious, being bored or having impediments. Now it seems that we know a lot about the Rider. We have a vague idea about the drawing, some info about the number, and some more info
about the 9 of hearts. What do we do now? Let's take it from another point of view and start working with our hieroglyph: the rider (taking in mind what we've explored before) We need to think about the Rider and make a list of: 1. positive nouns that could be attached to him like: man, news 2. positive adjectives that could be attached to him like: young, foreign 3 . ve r b s t h a t c o u l d b e attached to him like: to bring, to visit, to move Once we've made our list with positive aspects, we could do the same with negative aspects. Look at it again. Which emotions does he provoke in
you? Do they match with the list of words that you've written? The idea is doing this process with all the cards so that we can read sentences with them, having worked with nouns, adjectives and verbs, taking notice of the images drawn on the card (some decks could have nuances like the Mystisches Lenormand, for example, and you could decide to take into account those nuances for enriching your list of nouns, adjectives and verbs when using that deck), the numbers and the cards insets. These, along with ideas will let you discover the hieroglyph.

LENORMAND the writers’ technique T h e Wr i t e r s ’ t e c h n i q u e consists in creating a fictional character to use it for practicing purposes. Many writers use the Tarot or other Oracles to enhance their novels creating amazing characters.
2. Personality: strengths, we a k n e s s e s , p h o b i a s , talents, bad habits,etc 3. Personal life: a mother, a father, children, pets, romantic partners, associates, business partners, etc.
that you are like a writer. If you need more info about your character, take out more cards, so that you can discover how is his/her life.
Now that we know a little bit about the "grammar" of the Lenormand, we're going to use the cards to create a Character. We'll use that character to practice and try to remember the cards in a funny way.
You can use the "grammar" technique that we studied two months ago to know a b o u t h e r p e r s o n a l i t y, personal life and appearance. But you can also guide yourself using the drawings on your cards. Drawings can also tell you aspects of your character.
The serpent talks about an intelligent woman (middle aged), like a mother, who loves talking a lot. She's married (and she might like jewels as well). She likes going out a lot, being a voluntary in NGOs or things like that, gatherings etc. H o w e v e r, s h e ' s q u i t e anchored in her past, her thoughts, and her way of thinking.
Using the cards we can describe someone's ... 1. Physical appearance: age, eyes, skin, glasses, clothing style, general appearance, disgusting things about that person, etc
Shuffle your cards, and take out up to 5 cards. (Remember that you can also use the grammar technique to help you out). When you shuffle the cards take in mind that you're creating a character, and
For example: serpent, birds, ring, garden and anchor
I imagine the Serpent as a sophisticated woman (in fashion), so she might be "à la mode", and quite worried for her appearance, since
LENORMAND the writers’ technique she socializes a lot. She might also like to appear shinny (like the ring), but maintaining style (anchor) thus, my character is a sophisticated elegant lady, an intelligent middle aged woman who has also a dark side. Beware of her tongue since she can destroy you quite easily if she doesn't like you. Now, if I take a look at the drawings on the deck I chose ( A l i c e i n Wo n d e r l a n d Vintage Petit Lenormand), I discover that she might be quite active since the serpent depicted on this card is on the top of 3 tiny guys who seem to dance. She rules them, thus, she's very intelligent. The drawings on the bird card are of three types of birds, allowing extra communication across c o m m u n i t i e s . T h u s , my
character is very gifted in talking, socializing and communicating info across different groups.
behind the anchor, in a very romantic pose. Thus, what she thinks about love it's quite rooted.
On the ring card, I have a ring which is a serpent (LOL), two hands, a sophisticated lady behind and the tower of Pizza. I'd take that as someone who likes to follow the fashion (I could even say that my character loves the Italian Fashion if I were to write a novel), but I can also say that what she compromises to do, she does, because she's worried about her image.
So, we can use both the "grammar" and the drawings on the card to guide ourselves in the process of creating a character :D
The picture of the garden is a party one, outside in the open, with some absinthe liquor. So, my character hangs out to the open a lot. And she seems, again, very active. On the anchor card, however, we can see a couple

It means that we’ll layout a deck with the natural order of the cards (1 to 36), shuffle another deck and put those shuffled ones on the houses. With the 3x3 l ay o u t , t h e h o u s e s a r e randomly chosen. (For more information please go to: h t t p : / / y o u t u . b e / DchTPWFOm4k ) The house card relates only with the card that enters the house, but not with the rest. It defines the card. For example, the House of the House, with the man. It talks about the man at home. So, it could talk about a husband, a father, etc. The House of the Letter, with the ship. It talks about news about a possible trip.
We don't read the houses with houses. What we connect are the cards on the top. So, we could use the "grammar technique" and make a sentences, or go beyond that using other techniques. Houses gives us information for a cer tain card. The houses technique it's very useful specially with big and small spreads because it clarifies things. You can use houses or not, that's your choice :) Why don’t we give it a try? Let’s take one of our created characters, or create a new one from zero using the writers’ technique, and let’s use him/her for practicing the 3x3 layout + houses!
You can use two different decks for this purpose, or you can take a piece of paper to write down the name of the houses. 1. Shuffle your deck and take out the houses first. Write the results on a paper. 2. Then, shuffle your deck again, concentrating in the question, and take out 9 more cards. Those will be the ones to be read. If you don’t have two decks, and don’t want to shuffle so many times, you can still do this with one single deck. To know how to do it, please take a look to this video: h t t p : / / y o u t u . b e / idR1aEKwVu0 ☆ Let’s begin! ☆

LENORMAND the Grand Tableau There are 2 main layouts for the Grand Tableau: •the 9x4 GT •the 8x4+4 GT You can find a GT generator in my blog ( http:// mystic.depepi.com/ layouts/ ). You can use it for practicing, or you can do it manually with your chosen deck. Even though here we’re going to cover the aspects of the 8x4+4 GT, you can use the techniques also with the 9x4 GT. Don’t fall into desperation at the beginning, when you might be overwhelmed by the cards. The GT requires a lot of concentration, and time to be correctly read. So, relax, take your time, and take pictures of your GT, or write down the cards
combination in order to go back to the reading after you’ve relaxed. For starting to read a GT you have to look for the Consultant’s card: if it’s a woman, card 29, if it-s a man
card 28. From the card we read vertical lines, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, and the corners of the GT. Can you spot the Consultants in this image?
LENORMAND the Grand Tableau To keep it simple we will not u s e “ h o u s e s ” fo r o u r G T practice. However, if you feel confident you can do so. We’re going to point out the lines that are read in a GT first, and then, we’ll practice it :) Usually, the cards on the Consultant refer to things that have to happen or are happening. Those under the Consultant, refer to the past. Events on the lef t, past influences, events on the right future influences. (Note: for some authors in works differently, so, if you are following another author's ways, specify so when doing the exercise). Pink lines (diagonal and vertical lines on the left of the Consultant) talk about thoughts, attitudes from the near past or the present that are influencing.
Yellow lines (diagonal and vertical lines on the right) talk about the near future. Purple lines talk about the past, a past influence, etc. Corners also talk. The card, and the three cards surround the 1st card, clues about the question the Consultant made.
first that give that
Staring at the rest of corners, we can have more info. Remember: don't rush when reading a GT!! Take your time, and use all the techniques you think you need to make a good reading. This time, we make it simple and use the "grammar technique".
LENORMAND the Grand Tableau Let’s try to make our first GT. Layout the cards and try to use the “grammar technique”.
You can use the “writers’ technique” and create a character first.
Don’t get nervous. Take as many notes as you need to.
