Teddy Henfrey, the clock-jobber was another inquistive inhabitant of Iping who had unpleasant meeting with the stranger. Mrs. Hall called him to mend the malfunctioning clock in Griffin’s room. Filled with curiosity to know more about the strange looking stranger, Mr. Henfrey intentionally tried to work in as slow and quiet and unassuming a manner as possible. Feeling lonely in the room as he tried to start a conversation with Mr. Griffin, he was snubbed by the latter to do the mending fast. After quickly fixing the clock he went out quite annoyed and suspecting him to be wanted by the police. On his way to home, he met Mr. Hall and set him against Griffin by talking ill about him. Describing him as congruent and suspicious character he filled Mr. Hall’s mind with apprehension about stranger.
Teddy Henfreys is a clock jobber who goes to Coach and Horses on the invitation of Mrs. Hall to mend the watch of stranger’s room which does not show exact time. He is very talkative and likes to interfere in others’ life. On the instructions of Mrs. Hall, he keeps an eye on the stranger and enters and enters his room with former. He takes the watch down and starts unscrewing it along with monitoring of the stranger. The moment, he tries to talk to the stranger after making the excuse of weather, stranger lambasts him and advises him to mind his own business. Since that day, he starts speaking ill against the stranger. Infact, he provokes Mr. Hall against his own wife stating that she has no sense of business. He rumours that the stranger is a criminal who keeps his face covered in order to conceal his identity or to escape from the t he police. He is, many times, beaten by the stranger for contradicting his way and being a hindrance. In nut shell, he proves to be flamboyant who speaks a lot but does little.
