Thereare some goodshops but there isn’t a cinema or theatre. There is a beautiful park near to the rim . The river is about 15 minutes from my house. There is a small shop on the stre et. My house, number 15, is opposite the shop and next to a school. Don't worry, in the holiday the school is closed so it is quiet. OK, inside the house. Thereare three rooms on the ground floor: the kitchen, living roomand a small roomat the back with the washing machine. There are someplants in the kitchen next to the fridge. Please water them. The TV is on the table next to the bookcase in the living room. There are two bedrooms on the first floor. Please use the oneopposite the bathroom. 3100 I really enjoyed this film. The story begins in New York in the year 3100. It’s about two people who are from the 21st century and who are in the same city 1,000 years in the future. The acting was really good and the story was very interesting. A really great film. ★ ★ ★ ★
Mr right? Sandra (Jo-Anne Massey) moves to a new city. She is very unhappy because she has no friends. She meets Josh (Alex Smith) and they go for walks, they go out for dinner and she is very happy. Then she discovers that Josh is married! Jo-Anne Massey and Alex Smith act badly in the film. One to miss. ★

‘The best film this year.’ So I went to see it! I liked watching the two actors - Nell Ash and Peter Brock - because I think they were both excellent. But the story was awful. After only ten minutes, I guessed the end of the film! OK for a rainy day. ★ ★

n Saturday, 31st October, 1964, a man arrived in the village. It was late in the evening. He was looking for somewhere to stay the nigh t. He knocked at a door and a woman opened it. ‘Go od ev ening, m adam ,’ the man said. ‘I’m sorry it’s so late. But can you help me, please? Is there a hotel in this village? I want to stay here tonight.’ The woman laughed. ‘A hotel? Here in Woodend? No, sir, I’m afraid there isn’t.’ ‘W ha t a pity,’ said the ma n. ‘I’m a stranger here. A nd I want to see your village tomorrow.’ Th e stranger was very polite. He was tall and had dark hair. A nd he had strange green eyes. ‘Perhaps Mrs Harrison can help you,’ the woman said. ‘She has a room. Perhaps you can stay with her. Wait a minute. I’ll get my coat, an d I’ll take you th ere.’ Th e w oman took the stranger to Mrs Harrison’s house. Mrs Harrison gave him a room for the night. He was very glad. It was the last nigh t of October and it was cold. Th e ne xt day was Sunday. The m an looked round the village. He was very interested in the history of the village. He m et some of the villagers and asked them th eir names. But he did not visit the church. Th at was unusual. Th e church in Woodend was the most beautiful building in the village. But the stranger was not interested in it. He did no t go to church tha t night with all the villagers. It was the first Sunday evening of November. W hen the villagers came out of the church, the m an had gone. They h ad all liked him. T he ladies had thou ght he was very goodlooking. A few weeks later, he came back. It was the first Sunday in December. The villagers were coming out of church. It was cold and dark. ‘He llo he said.’ ‘I’m back ag ain. I want to buy a house here.’ ‘Here?’ someone said. ‘But why here? Th ere ’s no work in Woo dend for a young man. A ll the young people leave the village. They find work in Lidney, the nearest town.’ ‘I’ll get a job somew here,’ the stranger said. ‘Perhaps in Lidney.’ Th en one o f the villagers told him about old Mr Sm ith’s house. Mr Smith had died in the summer. His house was empty. It was for sale. The house was on the corner of Main Street and Chu rch Lane. ‘I’ll ask about th e house tomo rrow,’ said the young man. ‘Perhaps I’ll be lucky. Goodbye. I’ll see you soon.’ The villagers watched him leave. They all saw his car. It was very big an d luxu riou s. H e loo ked rich . A few days later, Mr S mi th’s house was sold. And in the middle of

And on the sign were these words: THE CORNER SHOP Proprietor: Dave Slatin
A few weeks later, he came back. The villagers were c oming out of church.

Everybody was interested in the new shop. ‘The Corner Shop is a good idea,' someone said. ‘We ne ed a village shop. We won’t need to go to Lidney.’ Then Mrs Harrison spoke. She liked the stranger, Dave Slatin. ‘I agree,’ she said. ‘A village sh op is a good idea. I t’s too qu iet here. Wooden d needs a shop.’ ‘No nsen se,’ said Miss Brown. They liked him. ‘The Corner Shop will sell lots of things,’ he we nt o n. ‘It will sell food and things for the house. Everything will be cheap, I promise!’ Everybody was listening carefully. ‘And I have another idea,’ he continued. ‘I’ll sell village products.’ ‘W ha t do you me an by “Village products” ?’ asked Miss Brown. ‘I’ll tell you, Miss Brow n,’ he said. ‘I know t h at you ma ke beau tiful bre ad an d cak es.’ Miss Brown smiled. Sometimes he r friend, Peter, helped at the shop and Dave gave him money too. Dave advertised in newspapers and the village products sold well. People from Lidney came to The C orner Shop. There were lots of visitors and Woodend became more interesting. T he villagers were surprised, but pleased. Th ey were making a lot o f money. Dave lived alone, in a flat above the shop.
