The FMS-200 system is the ideal answer to integral training in industrial automation. It is fully modular and flexible equipment and in keeping with industrial reality. The modular features of this flexible automation cell allow the introduction of variations in the posts of which it is comprised so that they adapt to the different requirements of companies and training centers. From a simple configuration with one station only (working fully autonomously) to a complex configuration with eight or ten stations, the possibilities are endless. In addition, it enables making a staggered investment, i.e. starting with an initial basic configuration which can be easily completed by adding workstations. All the components of which the FMS-200 is comprised are used in industry, in such a way that the user can work with real elements at all times making the learning process more meaningful.
The system includes a whole series of feeding, handling, verification and loading operations etc. carried out using components from different technologies (pneumatics, hydraulics, electrotechnics, robotics, etc.).
The breakdown simulation system TROUB-200 generates up to 16 malfunctions to be diagnosed by the user.
The different process stations assemble a turning mechanism which consists of the following elements: - Base or body - Bearing - Shaft - Lid - Screws
To provide the system with greater flexibility, the various stations adapt to a wide variety of assemblies, introducing variations in the materials, colors and part sizes. The combination of all these possibilities means that a total of twenty four different assemblies can be obtained enabling the use of production management strategies.
The control mesh is completely modular and can be rapidly disassembled so the user can design a new mesh.

The transport system There are two alternative forms of transferring the final product which is assembled in the different stations: using a 4 metre long bidirectional conveyer belt which allows attaching of up to 8 workstations or using modular conveyer belts (in this option each of the stations includes a transfer section). This version allows the user to create a complete configuration with the 10 workstations available at that time or to add options as needed.
The process stations Each of the workstations is comprised of a structure based on aluminum profiles where the elements to carry out the corresponding process are located. The front part includes the control unit which consists of the control panel and the PLC selected by the user. The stations can be easily extracted from the cell so that work can be carried out autonomously. Wheels facilitate mobility and the assembly of the stations in order to configure more complex compositions. Each of the stations carries out one part of the assembly process making use of the different technologies used in automated industry:

Multiple integrated modules
Feeding the base The parts which act as the base for the final product (turning mechanism) are housed in a gravity feeder. The base is pushed by using a pneumatic cylinder.
Position verification The rest of the components are inserted into the housing of the base. This housing has to be positioned upwards since the components will not enter in any other position. In order to check the position of the base a cylinder with an attached cylindrical part is used. If the base is in an incorrect position, the cylinder will not complete its stroke and the magnetic detector will not be activated and a signal is sent to the PLC indicating this situation.
Displacement to the transfer point. A cylinder with a rectangular section is responsible for moving the base to a point from which it will be collected.
Rejection of incorrect base If the base is in the incorrect position, a single acting cylinder is used to push it towards an evacuation ramp.
Insertion of the base in the pallet A handling device with two shafts moves the base from the transfer point to the pallet. Each shaft contains a dual rod cylinder with parallel rods, while the terminal element is a vacuum holding platform with four vacuum pads. A vacuum ejector is responsible for suction.

The FMS-202 station includes the following modules:
Feeding the bearing A gravity feeder stores the bearings. A pusher cylinder extracts the one in the lowest position. A presence sensor with a microswitch verifies whether a bearing has really been extracted and warns when the feeder parts have run out.
Transfer to the measuring module The bearing is moved to the next point by a handling device based on a rack and pinion rotary actuator. The actuator has an arm with parallel opening type gripper in order to hold the part correctly.
Measuring the height The bearing is placed on a platform over a location pin. This platform is lifted using a pneumatic rodless cylinder and the bearing makes contact with a straight plunger which measures the height. The straight plunger is comprised of a linear potentiometer. In the event that the bearing does not have the desired height (and marked in the PLC), it is pushed up to the evacuation ramp using an ejecting cylinder.
Insertion of the bearing A rotolinear handling device with an arm with a gripper with two fingers moves the bearing to the housing in the base.

FMS-203: Hydraulic press This phase of the process carries out the hydraulic pressing of the bearing inserted in the previous station. The pressing is simulated to facilitate the subsequent disassembly of the components and their reuse. Nevertheless, all the elements comprising the module are completely industrial. The lower part of the station contains all of the hydraulic equipment which is required to feed the pressing cylinder with high pressure oil.

The FMS-203 station includes the following work modules:
Insertion/ extraction of the product in process The handling and transfer of the product in process is carried out using a pneumatic rotary actuator which includes an arm with four vacuum pads. These have to transfer the part using vacuum. The handling device includes a mechanism based on pinion and ribbed belt to constantly keep the part in the same position.
Feeding the press Two double acting pneumatic cylinders transfer the product in process from the transfer point to the pressing and vice versa.
Pressing the bearing. Once the part has reached the pressing point a protection screen actuated by a pneumatic cylinder descends to protect the user from any potential incidents. All the safety standards are observed in the equipment; this, in turn, enables user contact with the safety mechanisms used in industry. The pressing cylinder (controlled by a 4/3 way distribution valve) proceeds to lower with adjustable force (using a pressure restrictor valve). Once the bearing is pressed, the screen lifts and the product in process is transported to the original position.

FMS-204: Shaft selection/ supply In this fourth workstation, the shaft is assembled on the product in process coming from the previous station. There are two types of shafts depending on the material of which they are manufactured: aluminum and nylon. Modules included in the station Index plate. The different operations undertaken in this station are distributed around an index plate. This plate uses an oscillating pusher cylinder and two stopper cylinders which work alternatively, to rotate a specific number of degrees between each of the operations which are carried out in relation to it.
Feeding of shafts The shafts remain stored in a gravity feeder. By using a stepper feeding system (formed by two pneumatic cylinders) they are extracted and left in the first position of the revolving plate.
Measuring the shaft height. The shaft is not symmetrical and must be positioned over the assembly in a specific position. To ensure the correct positioning of the shaft, the height is measured by a pneumatic cylinder fitted with a magnetic detector.
Positioning the shaft in the correct position. If the previous module detects that the shaft is positioned incorrectly, a handling device has to correct it. The shaft is held by a gripper with two fingers and lifted by a dual rod cylinder. A 180º rotary actuator turns it and places it back in the correct position.
Detection of the material. The following two station modules detect the material that the shaft is made of. An inductive detector and a capacitive one must ascertain whether the material is nylon or aluminum. Removal of the incorrect shaft. This station selects the type of shaft to be assembled on the product in process and rejects shafts made of undesired material. This function is carried out by a handling device with two shafts with a vacuum pad at the end. Each shaft is comprised of a dual rod cylinder which carries out the shaft lifting movements and takes it to the evacuation ramp.
Insertion of the shaft in the assembly. During the last phase of the process, a rotolinear handling device collects the shaft, moves it and positions it in the assembly. The handling device has an arm with vacuum pad which holds the shaft by suction during this process.

FMS-205: Cover selection/ supply This station inserts a lid on the set of parts which have been assembled from the previous stations. There are 6 different types of lids: depending on the material (aluminum or nylon), color (light or dark) and height (high or low). This variety offers the station more didactic possibilities due to a whole series of verifying and measuring operations which are carried out.

Dividing plate The operations carried out in this station are distributed around a revolving plate with eight positions actuated by a pusher cylinder and fitted with retaining cylinders.
Feeding the lid The lids remain stored in a gravity feeder. A pusher cylinder extracts one of these and the part is collected and transferred to the discharge position using a rotolinear handling device with 180º rotation and parallel opening gripper.
Detection of the material Three different detectors (inductive, capacitive and photoelectric) have to detect the material and color of the lids.
Measuring the lid height. In this case, a linear encoder with pulse output is used to measure the lid.
Removal of the incorrect lid In the event that the part does not coincide in color, material and/or height with the requirements indicated by the controller, a handling device with two shafts collects and ejects the part via the evacuation ramp.
Insertion in the product in process In the event of coinciding with the marked specifications, a pneumatic rotolinear handling device is used to collect the part and insert it in the assembly.

Station 6 is comprised of the following modules:
Feeding of screws The screws are housed in a gravity loader. By using double acting cylinders located opposite each other, a screw is extracted and positioned above the feeding position.
Transfer A fibre optic detector verifies the presence of the screw which will be transferred to the collection position by a pneumatic dual rod cylinder.
Insertion A handling device based on two pneumatic cylinders carries out the insertion of the screw in the work in process. Afterwards, the rotary handling device present in the transfer will rotate to insert the second screw and will continue until all four bolts are inserted.

FMS-207: Robotized screwing The seventh FMS-200 station integrates robotics as technology which is widely used in automated environments. In this case, a robot is used to screw in the four bolts supplied by the previous station. The robot has a tool attached with a pneumatic gripper and an electric screwdriver and the station table includes two warehouses for material (with capacity for 6 lids and 6 shafts in different materials, colors and heights). These components allow the user to screw the four bolts in the work in process as well as to carry out operations such as the change in material, insertion and extraction of material in the assembly and the exchange of material between warehouses. These applications give way to an extensive range of programs for the robot's controlling unit thus extending significantly its didactic capacities.

The integration of robotics
The control of the robot's movements is carried out using a controlling element which can also be used to program the movements it has to carry out. The programming is carried out from a PC with the robot's own software.
The station also has a programming console from which the commands must be entered.
In order to avoid risks from uncontrolled movements by the robot, the station is equipped with a protection guard in its programming.

In FMS-200, the warehouse has been set up using a system based on two coordinate shafts and a third vertical shaft for the collection of the material. The FMS-208 station includes the following modules:
Vertical shaft It contains a dual rod cylinder to which a platform is attached with four vacuum pads to hold the part. A digital vacuum pressure switch has been included as a pressure sensor that displays the exact pressure and vacuum value.
Positioning shafts These have to transfer the vertical shaft with the finished product up to a specific position from the 30 positions in the warehouse. The positioning shafts are actuated by servomotors with encoder for the precise regulation of position and speed via the corresponding drivers.
HMI – operator terminal (optional) This option extends the possibilities of the station when including this new technology and allows: - Operating the drivers in console mode - Inserting movement parameters (positions, spe eds, accelerations, etc.) - Displaying warehouse positions as well as identifying the type of product in each position - Carrying out material dispatches according to FIFO, LIFO parameters or selection by the user - Operating the keypad - Displaying alarms and resetting

FMS-209: Paint drying in oven During this phase of the assembly process the paint drying phase is simulated using a polycarbonate oven. The work in process is inserted in the oven which uses a 150 W bulb to simulate the paint drying process. Once this has finished, the product leaves the oven to go on to the next phase of the process. The system allows the user to modify the temperature value and the transit time of the assembly through the oven depending on the features of the product in process (colors, sizes, height of the components, etc.).

Insertion/extraction handling device: This consists of a rotary actuator and a rodless cylinder that transfers the product in process up to the charge/discharge platform on the electric shafts. The holding system has been set up using 4 vacuum pads.
Electric shafts: These have to insert the product in process in the oven, move it within the oven and extract it once again once the drying process has ended. At the oven entrance and exit there are doors with safety barriers to prevent the product from entering or exiting with the door closed. Inside the oven, the product is transported by two electric motorized linear shafts with brushless servomotors.
Oven: While the product is transported along the oven, a 150W bulb increases the temperature in accordance with the preset value. A temperature probe located inside the oven measures its value and passes it on to the controller.

FMS-210: Quality control using artificial vision The incorporation of this station in the FMS-200 family requires the integration of the quality control technology via artificial vision which is in frequent use in automated productive processes. The product in process coming from the previous station is transferred to the inspection position in which an artificial vision camera examines a series of variables in two of the four bolts. This system is used as quality control based on the comparison of images taken by the camera with predefined templates.

Modules integrated in the station
The FMS-210 station includes the following modules:
Insertion/extraction handling device: It has to transfer the work in process to the discharge point. This consists of a pneumatic rotary actuator which incorporates an arm with four holding vacuum pads. The inside of the arm has a mechanism based on a pinion and cogged belt to keep the product in a horizontal position.
Index table: This module is used to generate a rotary movement of the product. Each turn rotates the table 180º (using a stepper motor and cogged belt system). A cylinder has to block the table after each rotation.
Artificial vision system: An industrial artificial vision system carries out the inspection of the product in process in two different positions by verifying the height of the bearing, the color of the shaft, the height and color of the lid and the presence of the screws. This entire inspection process can be displayed via the station screen. If the result of the inspection is satisfactory, the assembly will be returned to the pallet located in the transfer. In the event of the inspection being rejected, the product in process will be transferred to the evacuation ramp by a handling device with two shafts.

The transfer system In order to adapt our offer to the various requirements of our clients, FMS-200 is presented in two different versions: with a linear transfer system measuring four meters long or with modular transfer sections coupled to each station. The two options are described below.
Linear transfer This is a rectangular transfer system through which the pallets which contain the product assembled in the various cell stations circulate. It allows the integration of up to a maximum of eight workstations which are easily connected, thanks to the design of its structure.

Modular transfer
In this FMS-200 version, each of the stations includes an individual transfer section so that it is not necessary to acquire the linear transfer system. A multitude of different combinations of stations can be developed, creating different layouts with the possibility of joining stations at 90º or 180º.
The master PLC, set up in one of the stations, controls the other network PLCs. The retainers and pallet lifters, electrical connections, air vents and the other elements required for the operation of each transfer are included in each of the corresponding stations. This system also allows scalability of the product over time, enabling a greater number of stations to be joined. It is a perfect system for cases where there are space restrictions in the laboratory.

By using simFMS, training in industrial automation is not limited to working with the physical system. SCADA: Supervision, control and data acquisition This is a software application increasingly used in industry via which the process can be monitored and supervised from the computer screen:
