PREFACE TIME is the essence and "Timing of events" in OUf fast li ves. is the task with which an astrologer of the day is currently co nfronted. This book, which has been finali sed after
empi rica l studies, is primarily for meeting this demand througb an integrated & systematically consolidated approach [or analytica ll y studying the Divi sonal Chart s. At the same time, the book throws light on appli cation of pri nciples relating to the study of Vargas (Di visio ns), debilitated planets occupy ing their signs of deb ilitation, tim ing of marriage, etc., and illustrated Di vi sional Charts regarding profession, progeny, parentage, heal th, marriage, etc. We find ourselves encountered with the large num ber o f Inconsistencies and confus ions prevailing in the class ical predictive tools which I believe a re the res ults of Interpolations and o m isSions while record ing the principles as e nunciated by the propounding fathers. The clues identified by the author on the functional nature of planets for particll1u ascendant. and application of transit with reference to the natalucendant have solved most of the confusions . The ·Systems· Approach for Interpreting the Horoscopes ~ suggested by me in my book having the sa me title does not leave a s ingle case be ing reported in vario us astrological journals unexplained with this single approac h . CHAPTER 1 WHY STUDY DMSIONAL CHARTS? WHAT IS A DMS[ONAL CHART? First of all let us understand what a divisional chart or a varga chart is ? Divisional chart Is erected by dlvidlng a sign into parts. For example. if we want to prepare a divisional chart for one ninth part of a sign (Rasl), we wUI divide the 300 1.e. extent of a sign in nine equal parts of 30:20'each. Then we have a standard methodology of reckoning the signs ornatal planets (planetary position as noted at the time ofblrth) as well as the rising degree ofthe ascendant in the divisional chart for ninth part which Is known as the navamsa chart. We will not go into the details of preparing the divisional charts here. You can make the divisional charts with the help of the tables 12 to 24 given at the end of the book. We will see the natal sign and degree oCa planet and see its corresponding position in the divisional chart. For example. if an ascendant is rising in Virgo 23°, its position in decante would be Taurus; in Turyamsa it would be Gemini; in Panchamsa it would be Leo; in Sapthamsa it would be Leo; and so on and so forth. The natal sign Is to be read in columns and natal degrees are to be read in the rows. The corresponding number reckoned with the help of the column position and row position represents the sign number in the concerned divisional chart.
IMPORTANT DIVISIONAL CHARTS Forclusterwise detailed analysis, the divisional charts have to be studied. These are studied for two purposes. Firstly to see the strength of a planet by observing its placement in various divisions. Iflt is placed in its own sign.

friendly sign or its exaltation sign in most afthe divisions. It is treated to be strong. Its placement in most of the dlvislons in its sign of debilitation renders it weak. A planet which is weak in the natal chart does not improve Its position by occupying benefic. friendly. exaitton or own Sign. However. thOH planet. which are weak but functionally favourable tor. penon can be strengthened by wearing of. atone or • yantra in. duly ~Iected. time. In this OOok. we will treat planets Rahu. Ketu and those whose mooltrtkona signs fall in the houses sixth. eighth and twelfth from the natal ascendant as functionally unfavourable for the owner of the chart. Secondly the divisional charts are studied for identifying the results of a particular sector of Ufe by studying the corresponding divisional chart along with the concerned house in the natal (birth) chart. Like lfwe want to study the general fortune, we wtll study the ninth house and the divisional chart known as navamsa (D·[x) along with the natal (birth) chart of the person.

A planet, which occupies the same sign in rasi and navamsa charts. is called Vargonama. C lassics attribute good result to planets
in the state of Vargottam a amsa. But the se good resu lts are experienced by the native jfthe planet is strong and well placed in the rasi chart. In case the planet is in its sign ofdebilitation, combust or weak on any other account, the planet fail s to bestow the good
results in its main or sub periods. A planet in its own decante bestows good resuhs relating 10 its significations in a chart while the one in its own navamsa makes one lucky. A planet in its own sapthamsa conters name, fam e, wealth and happiness in life through progeny . The planetary- relationships in a horoscope are generated through close conjunctions, c lose aspects and placements. When two or more fun ctional benefic planet s from c lose relationship they generate good res ults relatinlZ to the houses where the mooltrikona
• signs of these planets are placed. This type of relationship caused due to the close conjunction/aspect is known as yoga. If two fun ctional malefics or one functional benefic and one functional malefic planet ronn a close relationship they cause an inauspicious yoga and destroy the results af the house(s) ruled by the functional malefic benefic planet. When a functional benefic planet occupies a malefic house, this causes a yoga for misfOitune related to the significations of the house containing the mooltrikona sign of the said planet. Similarly. when a functional malefic planet closely influences the most effective point of a benefic house, it destroys the significations of the said house . The readers may refer to the advance predictive techniques of the Systems' Approach in the book, Predictive Techniques and application of the Astrologica l Remedial Measures. The advance predictive/analytical techniques will make the analysis of the charts and comprehension of the horoscope very easy. RASI CHARTS AT TIMES CAN BE MISLEADING Those houses are considered strong which are occupied I aspected by their own lords and functionally favourable planets. whose lords are strong by way of exaltation and placement in angles or trines. As per Sarvartha Chintamant. a classic, If a natural benefic planet is lord of any house and Is located in that house or aspectS It and the houses aspected or associated are not under the influence of malefic planets by association or aspect. the h ouse concerned gets boosted in regard to the traits related to it. Still at times, we come across charts where inspt!e of certain houses being strong in main charts, the nat1v~ do n ot get the desired results. How can we identifY such combinations and offer correct predictio ns? The answer lies in analysing the concerned house of a main chart in association with study of the corresponding divisional chart as lndicated earlier unde r the sub-heading slgn1ftcations of the
important divisional charts. In fact any prediction wtthout its being subJected to testln the relevantdMsion. stands less chances ofits becoming true. The study ofvartous houses. in fact. gives the clues to trends in Ufe whereas the exact happenings are delineated with the help of the strength of the operating sub-period lord in transit in particular and the various exact wnJWlCtlons or exact aspects fonned by the transit planets in rela tion to the natal (birth) positIons . Ketu also aspects both the ascendants of the navamsa and dwadasamsa. Ketu is known as the planet of miseries. In the Rasl chart, Rahu is closely conjunct with the mid-point of the fourth house. The planets o:cupytng the sign Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces, which are lnauspicious stgns of the natural zodiac. also become somewhat weak. Venus in this chart is in Scorpio and Jupiter Is in Pisces. Jupiter. the Sun. Venus and the Moon become sJgntficators for the father while Rahu and Ketu are the afllictors. The Moon, the slgnificator for the mother, occupies angular houses in main chart and navaIn8a and Its own sign in thedwadasamsa. In 0-1, the seventh house is occupied by its own lord tn its sign of exaltation. The lord of the eighth house the house of marital bond, is occupied by its own lord, Venus. The lord of the house of the family occupies angular position from the lagna(ascendant).Inspite of all these positive combinations the marital-bond could not survive. The seventh house has close aspect ofKetu and the twelfth lord has close conjunction with Ketu. The manglayasthan and its lord does not have any malefic aspects on them. In D-lX, the lagna is occupied by the debilitated Sun, who is secondary significator for the husband as well. The significator for the husband. Jupiter, occupies its sign of debilitation. Mercury the lord of the seventh house of the main chart occupies its own sign in the D-lX. The ascendant lord of the D-lX, Venus, is afflicted due to its occupying the house of debilitated Jupiter. Saturn ruling bed comforts in D-I is closely conjunct with Ketu and occupies its debUitated navamsa. Fourth house of the D-lX is highly afflicted by the presence of debilitated Jupiter as also aspect of Ketu. The· girl who was married in June, 1985, faced numerous problems in her marital life which ultimately ended in a divorce. From June, 1987, onwards the main period of the ninth and second lord, Mars, was tn progress. The brief spell of sub-period of Mars in its own period could not reverse the trouble started by the sub-period of Venus and the Sun in the main period of the Moon. The strong seventh lord could not withstand the affiiction caused by Ketu. Saturn's sub-period in the main period of Mars saw end of the alliance.

The native is a mangoUan child. having retarded growth. sufferlng from dreaded diseases like pneumonia. congenital defects like hole in heart and enlarged heart, etc .. and suffers from frequent fevers.
CHART. The native suffered on account of death of her husband within three years of her marriage and thereafter was Involved in the liUgation for the property of her husband. Her husband died in the sub-period of the fourth lord, Mercury. occupytng the siXth house.
In 0-1, Jupiter casts his close aspect on the seventh house. The ninth lord occupies its own house. i.e. the house of for1\U1e. The signlflcator for sex. Venus occupies its own sign in the fifth house. The seventh house is the house of spouse. The posltion appears to be quite promistrig except the close aflUction ofRahu to the twelfth house i.e. the house of bed comforts. But the unfortunate happening took place in the ma1n period of seventh lord and sub-period of the ninth lord.

As the main period of Jupiter. who is lord of the ascendant in the dasamsa, is in operation, the native had to work after the death of the husband. Thus the study of divisional charts becomes necessary for clearly delineating the results of the various sectors of life.

SPECIAL DEMANDS ON ASTROLOGERS FOR nMING OF£VENTS
Hundred percent benefits of predlcttve astrology can be enjoyed only if the events are properly timed. Life these days is vel)' fast. Every body wants to know what is going to happen and when because in the fast life nobody has the time and patlence. Moreover, the dis believers in this science and the people who are shaky turn believers if the predictions made. duly timed. become true. Numerous dk:ta are avaUable In astrological classical texts on predictive astrology. Most of the texts indicate as to what will be the effect of a partlc1llar planet in a particular sign.. Yet it is absolutely impossible for inclusion orall such incidents due to which the effects are going to change on accOlmt of aspects of other planets. their iXlsltton and strengths. That Is why many oftndications do not stand the testoftlme. I would like to state. humbly. that the predictive astrology is a matter of comprehension of the system in place of memorising combinations given in the books as the combinations are subject to venous measures of strength of the planets as also the aspects . Apart from the ftUldamental analysis of the main chart the following considerations play important role in t1rn1ngthe events. the examinatlon ofdMslonal charts being the most Important: 1. "J'raIgil eflect8: As lndicated earlier-. 1t Is the exact conJunctionl aspect fanned by the transit planetary configuration with reference to the natal planetary configuration which generates various types of results. In other words the conjunctions or aspects fonned by the current movement of planets on the planetary posltlon noted for the birth-time as also wtth reference to the middle polnt of the various houses

would Indicate failure/success depending upon their functional nature. In this book the rising degree In the ~cendant will be treated as the middle pOint of every houae and the extent of all bouse •• baa been treated as 300. Apart from the general effect of various conju nctlons or aspects, It Is the strength of the natal operating sub-period lord tn transit that bestows the results. rn case the natal operating sub-period lord Is functionally favourable but weak and Its transit position Is In strength. It can bestow the desired results to a large extent. The strength of weak natal favourable planet can be augmented with the help of stones or yantras. On the other hand If the strong natal operating sub-pertod lord Is weak In Its transit strength It fails to bestow or augment the desired results. This Is the basis of analysis with which an astrologer can lay with certainty about the frucuncaUon of. trend Into reality. 2. DIVISIONAL CHARTS As noted above and as would be the experience of the
learned astrologers the demands on the astrology today are about predictions In a partic ular sector of life and at a particular time; so to say marriage In so and so year. etc. For all these. it is very necessary that the divis ional chart relevant to a particular sector of liCe is studied and then the prediCtions are offered. The analysiS of divisional charts is to be undertaken as per Integrated Approach mentioned In Chapter 2 . The accuracy of birth lime becomes the sole basis of analyzIng a divisional chart. a.CAUTION:
Debilitated planets even If their debilitation Is cancelled, and the combust planets cannot be relied upon for Indicating success for particular fields for which they become slgnificators In a partic ular divisional chart If they

become lord of ascendant or are debilitated/combust as slgnlficator for the relevant significations. To augment such. weak planet if he i. a functional benefic for the nativity we have to suggest ttrengtbenlng measure. for the planet concerned and propitiatory measures for those functionally malefic planets and/or Rahu and Ketu, if they are caUSing afOtction to the weak planet or to the ascendant. It will be the experience of learned fI1ends that sometimes Ins plte of the slgnlOcators being weak. a person Is blessed with concerned Significations. For example If Jupiter as lord of fifth house of the maln chart or as lord of Sapthamsa Is weak, a native may be blessed with a male child. In fact the birth ofa male child may be dUring the subperiod of the Sun or a s trong lord of ascendant and when the sub-period of a weak Jupiter comes the native may be robbed-off of the bleSSings of the other planets or he suffers on account of permanent or temporary III-health of his children. REMEDIAL MEASURES
Propitiatory remedial measures should be recommended for the planets who might be causing affilctlon to the lagna lord ofth e divisional chart or the planet. whose period Is in operation. To illustrate, I would cite a few examples for timing the events with the help of the foregOing.

CHAPTER·4 ANALYSING COMBUST PLANETS The combust planets lack all power to protect/ promote the significations and the houses ruled by them. Although there Is very condensed mention oftbis subject in AstrolOgical Texts and commentaries ofclassical writers like S/5hrl Varaluniltlra, Kalyan Vanna and Venktesh Shanna. the same carries a very deep meaning and has to be viewed in the form of a very useful hint. Whenever, In a nativity a planet is combust, the native suffers with regard to the significations and the houses ruled by such planets in such a manner that the suffering becomes memorable, so to say it Is like a tragedy,
during the operat1onal periods

planets. In case the
houses, whose lords are combust, are occupied by functional maleflcs, Rahu and Ketu the significations are totally destroyed. In case the major dasa of such a planet do not operate then the fruits of the significations supposed to be provided by the combust planet are not enjoyed by the native and in case the major dasa operates and whenever the malefics transit the signs ruled by the combust planets tragic happenings occur In the relevant fields. Sometimes. the combust planets do bless temporarily the stgnificatlons ruled by them to cause sufferings on a later date by snatching it away.
The only saving factor Is the aspect/ association of the powerful functional benefics. In case, In addition to some other planets. Jupiter. being a functional benefic is also combust then there Is hardly any saving factor. However, if the depositors of the combust planets are powerfully placed, benefiCially aspected and are functional benefics, the effects oLcombust planets may be a little less.

Shri Vanket Sharma the author of "Sarvaratha hintamani" attributes the results to dasa ofKetu as under: "The native loses his wife and son; suffers on account rmisunderstanding with the king; suffers loss of education, ~latives, wealth and friends; dangers from dis

polson. weapons, going to distant places. likes to pick-up quarrels and trouble in the body. When Ketu occupies an angle, actions do not give results. one loses rullng powers, son. wife and encounters other dangers. Durlng its dasa Ketu gives dangers . fevers, lcx>s e motions. loss of semen. bolls and cholera. iflt occupies the lagna. Heattrtbuted good results to Ketu only when it is under the aspect of benefic planets~ . Sant Tulsldas wrote in Ramcharitmanasa that the dasa ofKetu is always troublesome. In fact whUe writing in the context of conduct ofevU perso ns, he stated that birth of evil persons is always for harming the lives of others as is the rise of planet Ketu meaning thereby that the dasa of Ketu is always troublesome.
In experlence. we notice that whenever Ketu is under benefic lntluence. it gives spiritual advancement and not the material advancement. As we are exam1n1ng the results of Ketu dass in the childhood. we can safely infer that the Ketu·s dasa In childhood produces only malefic results as it never allows the material advance ment, destroys the sources ofmatertal advancement of the child e.g. his parents. The best way to propltiate Ketu in its dasa is to feed dogs. ProplUatlon of Ketu becomes necessary in view of the fact that Ketu destroys the slgnlfkattons of the house occ upied by him, of the planet, with whom It 15 closely associated. and the houses aspected by It. If the Sunand the ntnthhouse areafllicted. the native loses his father or it causes severe troubles to the father affecting thereby the comfortable growth of the native. If the Moon and the fourth house are weak byway of afflictlons, the native is deWed the care of parents especially that of the mother.
