Marine Environmental Awareness, 2011 Edition (Model course 1.38) combines two important aspects of modern shipping; the importance of human performance and care for the marine environment. IMO Model course 1.38 is intended to give trainees knowledge of the importance and diversity of the marine environment as well as understanding and awareness of the impacts of shipping activities on the (marine) environment. There are two sections in the revised IMO model course on Maritime English:
Core section 1: General Maritime English (GME), and
Core section 2: Specialized Maritime English (SME), both of which contain a number of detailed teaching syllabi.
