KVPY QUESTION WITHANSWER(15-10-10)
1.
Ans.
ab and cd are two 2 – digit natural numbers and 4b + a = 13k1 and 5d – c = 17k 2,, where k 1 and k 2 are natural numbers. The largest number that will always divide product of ab and cd is : (A) 13 (B) 17 (C*) 221 (D) none ab × cd = (10 a + b)(10 c + d) = [40b + 10 a – 39b][51d – (50d – 10c)] = [10 (4b + a) – 39b][51d – 10(5d – c)] = [10 × 13 k 1 – 39b][51d – 10 ×17k2 ] = 13 × 17 (10k 1 – 3b)(3d – 10k2) = 221 (10k1 – 3b)(3d – 10k2) Hence, the largest number that will divide the product ab and cd is 221.

The spring balance A reads 2 kg with a block suspended from fro m it. A balance B reads 5 kg when a beaker with liquid is put on the pan of the balance. The two balances are now so arranged that the hanging mass is inside the liquid inthe beaker as shown in figure. In this situation :
(A) The balance A will read more than 2 kg. (B) The balance B will read less than 5 kg. (C*) The balance A w will ill read less than 2 kg and B will read more than 5kg (D) The balances A a and nd B will read 2 kg and 5 kg respectively 3.
A similarity between optical and geometrical isomerism is that (A) each forms equal number of isomers for a given compound. (B) if in a compound, one is present then so is the other. (C*) both are included in stereoisomerism. (D) they have no similarity.
Sol.
Stereoisomerism Stereoisomerism is due to the difference in arrangement of atoms atom s or groups in space. StereStereoisomers are such compounds having the same molecular and structural formula but different spatial arrangement of atoms or groups.

It has been observed that after-effects of low temperature treatment are helpful in promoting the flowering in certain plants. Through this the vegetative vegetative period of plants becomes short and early flowering flowering takes place. This phenomenon is known as : (A) vernalization (B) florigenation C) photoperiodism (D) heliotropism (A*) A and C (B) B and C (C) C and E (D) D and E
