1
Introduction Intr oduction to InDesign CS3
Desktop Publishing is the process o combining text and graphics on a computer screen to produce publications. It is used to product newsletters, greeting cards, cards, restaurant menus, advertisements, pamphlets, books or catalogues and you will produce these types o publications as you progress through these tutorials. Programs such as Microsot Word are useul programs when simple Desktop Publishing activities are required, however, when detailed publishing is desired, a specic page layout program is needed. The program you will use or this is called Adobe Adobe InDesign CS3 and it gives you total control over the appearance o pages. You will still use programs like Microsot Word and graphics programs such as PhotoShop, but as support programs to the page layout program.
Starting an InDesign Document 1
Load Adobe InDesign and you should receive the InDesign Start Screen, which has the our labelled sections shown.

Te ools Panel Look at the TOOLS TOOLS panel at the let o the screen. These tools allow you to create and control how objects are placed in a document.
1 Click in some o the tools tools and notice notice that sometimes the CONTROL panel at the top o the screen changes to show buttons associated with that tool.
2 Notice that that some tools have have a small arrow at their their base. These tools have extra options associated with them. Try clicking and holding down the mouse button on the TYPE TOOL to see its options.
Te Panel Group InDesign houses many o its unctions in collapsed panels at the right o the screen. You can add or remove panels rom the PANEL GROUP.

Setting the Ruler Units
You will be using the RULER at the top o the work area when laying out this publication so we will check that the units are in millimetres.
1 Display the EDIT menu, highlight PREFERENCES and select UNITS & INCREMENTS.
2 In the RULER RULER UNITS rame set the the HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL boxes to MILLIMETRES, then select OK.

This publication is going to be a one-column document and we can set RULER GUIDES to assist with the placement o the text and graphics. 1
Set the screen view to to FIT PAGE IN WINDOW by pressing CTRL+0 or COMMAND+0. This allows you to see the whole page.

Select the TYPE TOOL rom the TOOLS panel. 3 Move the I-Beam into the top Ruler until it changes changes to a pointer pointer.. Hold down the mouse button and drag a RULER GUIDE down to be in line with 30 mm in the let Ruler.
NOTE:

A light blue line should be added to the document. This is where the frst text block will be placed. We are leaving 10 mm rom the top margin so that a border can be added.

RULER GUIDES can be moved at any time using the SELECTION TOOL and they will not print when the document is printed.

4 Repeat steps 3 to drag ruler guides in line with 70 mm and 160 mm in the let Ruler. Ruler. This is where the the graphic and second text blocks will be placed.

Saving the Document
Once you have completed a page layout, it is a good idea to save it. 1
Display the FILE menu and select SA SAVE VE AS.

Access your STORAGE older and create a NEW FOLDER called DTP DTP..

Open the older and enter the name: Chapter 1 then click on SAVE to save your document.
Entering the Heading The heading o the fyer will be placed at at the top o the document. In this case we will place a rectangle over a text rame to enhance it.

2 Move the I-Beam to the intersection o the let margin guide and the rst Ruler guide at 30 mm. The small bar at the bottom o the I-Beam should be on the RULER GUIDE.
3 Hold down the mouse button and drag a text rame across to the right margin guide then down to 70 mm in the let Ruler.

When you release the mouse button the text cursor (or insertion point) is placed at the top let corner o the rame.

Adding Addin g a Rectangle
The text rame could be lled with a colour and set to have a border. However However,, to show you how to use the RECT RECTANGLE ANGLE tool we will had a rectangle over the text rame.
1 Click and hold the mouse button on the SHAPES tool in the TOOLS panel and select the RECTANGLE TOOL.

2 Move the cursor (now a cross hair) in line with 40 mm in the top Ruler and 30 mm in the let Ruler (this is on the rst RULER GUIDE). This coordinate is read as (40,30).
3 Drag the cursor across to 170 mm in the top Ruler then down to 60 mm in the let Ruler. This co-ordinate is read at (170,60).

D Changing the ext Colour The colour o the text in the heading can be altered. 1
Select the TYPE TOOL rom the TOOLS panel. 2 Triple click on the heading text to highlight it.
3 Open the SWA SWATCHES TCHES panel, check that the TEXT icon is selected at the top o the SWATCHES panel then set the SWATCHES panel to DARK BLUE. 4
Close or collapse the SW SWA ATCHES panel and resave the publication.
Inserting the Graphic A graphic will be placed at the second RULER GUIDE.

Aligning the Graphic
We want this graphic to be in line with the main heading. To assist with this, VERTICAL RULER GUIDES can be added to the screen.

2 Drag a RULER GUIDE to the right so that it is in line with 40 mm in the top Ruler. Ruler. This will allow us to align objects with the let edge o the rectangle.
3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 to add a VERTICAL RULER GUIDE in line with 170 mm in the top Ruler so that objects can be aligned with the right edge o the rectangle.

Placing the Graphic
When a graphic is inserted into InDesign the PLACE command is used. 1 Select the SELECTION SELECTION TOOL rom the TOOLS TOOLS panel and click outside the text rame and rectangle so that neither is selected.
NOTE:

I you place a graphic with a rame selected the new graphic replaces the current content in the rame.

I you place a graphic with the TYPE TOOL selected, the graphic will be placed as text and not be able to be moved around the page.

6 Click the mouse button to place the graphic on the screen.

Adding a Page Border A border can be added around the publication. 1
Set the screen to FIT PAGE IN WINDOW (CTRL+0 or COMMAND+0) and select the RECTANGLE RECTANG LE TOOL rom the SHAPES TOOL in the TOOLS panel.
2 Move the cursor (cross hair) to (30,20). That is, 30 30 mm in the top top Ruler and 20 mm in the let Ruler.
3 Drag a rectangle to (180,260).
4 Expand the SWA SWATCHES TCHES panel, click on the STROKE box at the top o the panel and set the stroke colour to DARK BLUE.

Display the OBJECT menu, highlight ARRANGE and select SEND SEND TO BACK to place the rectangle behind the other elements o the publication.
Adjusting Objects Set Behind Others You can adjust objects that are set behind other other objects. The CTRL or COMMAND key is used to select the required object. Let’ Let’ss reduce the height o the rectangle around the the main heading. 1 Select the SELECTION TOOL rom the TOOLS panel, hold down the CTRL or COMMAND key and click on the rectangle behind the main heading.
2 Use the top and bottom size ‘handles’ to adjust to reduce the height o the rectangle a little.
Spell Checking 1
Set the screen to ACTUAL SIZE (CTRL+1 or COMMAND+1).
2 Select the TYPE TOOL TOOL rom the the TOOLS panel and click the I-Beam at the start o the second text block. That is, just beore the ‘O’ in ‘Open Week’.

Display the EDIT menu, highlight SPELLING and select CHECK SPELLING.

4 Check the spelling o the whole story. SKIP any words that that are spelt correctly and CHANGE any words that are spelt incorrectly with the correctly spelt word. 5
Click on DONE to close the SPELLING dialogue box once all the text has been checked.
Previewing the Document Beore printing the document we can preview it on screen so that any obvious errors can be repaired. 1
Set the screen to FIT PAGE IN WINDOW (CTRL+0 or COMMAND+0).
2 Click on the PREVIEW button at the base o the TOOLS panel and all margin and guide lines will be turned o so that just the document is displayed.

4 Click on the NORMAL VIEW MODE button at the base o the TOOLS TOOLS panel to turn the margins and ruler guides back on.
Printing Printin g the Document 1
Display the FILE menu and select PRINT PRINT.. 2 In the PRINT dialogue box click on SETUP at the let rame and check that the PAPER PAPER SIZE is set to A4 or the printer you are using.

Planning Pages With any orm o Desktop Publishing, careul preparation can save you hours o work. Basically, our steps should ALWAYS be ollowed in any publishing process: 1
Create a sketch o the page layout on paper. This is called the THUMBNAIL SKETCH and it simply shows the rough positions o the text and graphics blocks. It’s convenient to use horizontal lines or the text blocks and crossed (or hatched) shading or the graphics. You can also estimate where to place ruler guides, what ormats to apply to the text and the type o graphic that is required.

Create the page layout within InDesign.

Enter the text and graphics and ormat them.

Print a copy, make any necessary changes, changes, reprint and re-check beore nal printing.
