arrangement, and 401 A man riding winch includes winch with foundation, drum and driving gear, wire rope, sheave arrangement, lifting tool to be connected to the lifting arrangement. arrangement. Ch.2 Sec.5 I
402 Arrangement .1 The The arra arrang ngem emen entt sha shall ll be suc such h that that the the weig weight ht of of wire wire rope rope bet betwe ween en she sheav avee arra arrang ngem emen entt and and winc winch h never never exceeds the weight of wire rope and man riding device on the other side of the sheave arrangement. This may be accomplished accomplished by means of counterweights. Such counterweights counterweights shall be arranged to avoid interference interference or jamming with other components, components, or potential for personnel personnel injury.
.2
The The shea sheave ve arra arrang ngem emen entt with with fast fasten enin ing g to stru struct ctur uree shal shalll be dimen dimensi sion oned ed acc accor ordi ding ng to the the same same pri princ ncip iple le as as the winch itself. The geometry shall ensure free path for the person lifted or lowered and ensure no damage to wire rope. The geometry geometry shall ensure that the angle between between wire rope and drum or sheave is within 4 o . The sheave arrangement arrangement shall be fitted with protection ensuring that derailing of wire rope does not occur. The diameter diameter ratio between sheave and wire rope shall be minimum 18:1.
.3
Winc Winche hess used used for for man man ridi riding ng equi equipm pmen entt shal shalll be desig designe ned d with with fix fixed ed ope opera rati tion on up up and and down down (i.e (i.e.. no free free fal falll with brakes).

403 Drum .1 Spoo Spooli ling ng app appar arat atus us shal shalll be fitte fitted d as nec neces essa sary ry to ens ensur uree sati satisf sfac acto tory ry spo spool olin ing g of wire wire rope rope and and to prev preven entt derailing of wire rope.
.2
The The diam diamet eter er rati ratio o bet betwe ween en drum drum and and wir wiree rop ropee sha shall ll be mini minimu mum m 18: 18:1. 1.
.3
Wire ropes shall have a minimum breaking breaking strength of 10 ´ SWL and shall otherwise be in accordance with a recognised standard applicable to the intended use. At lea least st 3 tur turns ns of wir wiree rope rope sha shall ll rema remain in on on the the dru drum m at the the low lowes estt poss possib ible le ope opera rati ting ng pos posit itio ion n of lif lifti ting ng device.

404 Brakes .1 The The win winch ch sha shall ll be be fitt fitted ed with with 2 sepa separa rate te,, inde indepe pend nden entl tly y ope opera rate ted d brak brakin ing g sys syste tems ms,, of whi which ch one one is is considered considered as parking brake brake and the other as operational brake. brake. Each brake shall be capable of stopping and holding the load upon activation. Guidance note: The motor of the winch normally satisfies the requirements for operational brake.

.2
Each Each brake brake shall shall auto automa matic ticall ally y enga engage ge upo upon n emerg emergenc ency y stop stop,, powe powerr loss, loss, or othe otherr rela related ted energ energy y failu failure re (e.g. (e.g. hydraulic accumulator, accumulator, spring, etc.). During normal operation, operation, the parking brake may be operated manually.

.3
Each brake shall be capable of holding a static load of 1.8 ´ SWL.
.4
The brakes should preferably be fitted directly on the drum. If this is not feasible, all components transmitting brake forces shall be dimensioned as the brake itself.
.5 .6
The operational brake shall be engaged with the control devices in neutral position. The brakes shall be designed to avoid unintentional release. Guidance note: E.g. an unintentional pressure build-up in excess of the preset maximum return pressure caused by e.g. restricted flow in the return line may typically cause release of the parking brake.
Monitoring of return pressure with initiation of alarm if preset maximum return pressure is exceeded or dedicated return line may be considered. ---e-n-d---o-f---G-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e---
