Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication BA (JMC)
Program Curriculum
(Credit Based Semester and Grading System With effect from the academic year 2016‐2017)
1
MIT INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BROADCASTING AND JOURNALISM, PUNE I INDIA
Program Curriculum Objective: The Course shall focus on functional and operational use of journalism & mass media. With the specific aim of use in media, it will equip students with competence in different modes of communication.
Scope: There is definitely a great scope for journalism in India. The advent of so many new platforms, such as The Logical India, Scroll, SaddaHaq, and the traction that these platforms are gaining is sign of that. In fact, look at the number of foreign players vying for journalism space in India -- Huffington Post, Mashable, Quartz already have operations and a few more are planning to start operations soon. The challenge, however, is what impact journalism is able to make. At this time, thanks to the Internet, it is all about "top x things that `blow your mind" which doesn't add real value. Unfortunately, many new platforms are trying to fight for this "viral" space, which will most likely die out in a few years. Real journalism platforms will be those that add real value to people. If journalism platforms can do this, then they will be in play in the long run.
Admission Criteria: 1. Eligibility for Admission: Candidates for being eligible for admission to the three-year integrated course leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication, shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (Academic or Vocational Stream) conducted by different Divisional Boards of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or an Examinations of any another Body recognized as equivalent. The criterion for selection of candidates is purely based on merit. The minimum requirement of marks/ grades for the admission process for Open category is 50% or equivalent grade. For reserved category candidates, the relaxation limit is up to 5%, which is 45% or equivalent grade.
2. Selection Process: Online form should be submitted on University website or Institute. Student will be communicated for Common Entrance Test (CET) details through email, after registration. Merit list will be declared on website based on performance in CET.
Program ordinances are as per the University academic ordinances, 2016.
