ONGC ANKLESHWAR ASSET The 1st exploratory test well Ankleshwar#1 was spudded ²in on 25th February 1960 with Russian rig URALMARSH-5D. The first producing well of ONGC was christened as ¶VADODARA· on 23rd June 1960. Ankleshwar assets cover three district of Gujarat viz. Baroda, Bharuch, & surat. The operational activities of asset are spread over 5100sq.kms. Ankleshwar assets has 10 Drilling rigs. Ankleshwar assets has 15 work over rigs.

EXPLORATION :
In ordered to carry out the exploration in a new area a set of activities to be done technically which are known as the various stages in petroleum exploration.

Drilling
Rig ² A drilling rig is a machine which creates holes usually called bore holes in the ground. rilling rig can be massive structure housing equipment used to drill water wells, oil wells or natural gas extraction wells.

Based on the special requirement and application, RIG may be classified as:- 1) ONSHORE RIG: Rigs are used for drilling on land. These can be further sub-classified as: Mobile rigs Convectional rigs: 2)OFFSHORE RIG: rigs which are used for drilling in water e.g. sea, lake, pound, river etc. These can be subdivided as : Fixed platform

PREPARING TO DRILL Once the site has been selected, the crew goes about preparing the land: 1) 2)
The land is cleared and levelled. Access roads may be built.

Because water is used in drilling, there must be a source of water nearby. If there is no natural source, they drill a water well.
4)
They dig a reserve pit, which is used to dispose of rock cuttings and drilling mud during the drilling process, and line it with plastic to protect the environment.

1.MAST-it is a metal structure which support all rig equipment. Height of mast is 52m, 2. Power system Large diesel engines - burn diesel-fuel oil to provide the main source of power. 3. HOISTING SYSTEM : Hoisting is used to lifting heavy load of drill string which consist of drill pipe, drill collar, Kelly, swivel through out draw works & traveling block. 4. ROTATING EQUIPMENT : Rotary table : A rotary table is a mechanical device on drilling rig that provides clockwise & anticlockwise rotational force to the drill string. Drill Bit :The drill bit is located at bottom of the drill string. It is used to backing up the rocks and sediment.
There are two types of drill bit : 1.Poly Crystalline Diamond bit size-17 ½µ,12 ½µ,8 ½µ. 2. Diamond bit

IDP(INDUSTRY DEFINED PROBLEM) In ONGC rig, there is needed of 1 crane to put pipe from catwalk to pipe ramp. Also there is need of three operator to perform the same operation, in which one operator is used to operate the crane and two operators are used to hang the pipe in travelling block of crane.
There is total cost of Rs 15,000/month for crane maintenance and for worker salary. There is already an air compressor at rig, which is used to operate ´Diesel engine air starter motorµ and to operate ´Pneumatic craneµ for hanging the pipe on derrick .
