SCOPE
This design guide defines the method for establishing the requirements for items specified by the piping materials group that are not included in the piping material specification. These items are called piping specialty (SP) items. 2.0
RESPONSIBILITY
The process engineer identifies and describes items on the piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) that are not in the piping material specifications. The piping materials engineer numbers, tracks, and completes information about an item and writes the specification. Some routine items are completely specified by the piping materials engineer; however, most items shall have the process information described by the mechanical process section. 3.0
PROCEDURE
The process engineer reviews the P&IDs to identify items that are not shown in the piping material specifications. If the item can be added to the specification, the process engineer will check with the piping materials group; otherwise, the Piping Specialty Item Process Data Sheet, should be filled out as follows: 1. Required information describes where the item appears on the drawings, the person originating the request, and other relevant information. This section should be completely filled out by the originator. 2. The body of the form contains typical data for SP items, but it is not comprehensive. Additional information should be added under notes at the bottom of the form. 3. The "notes" space on the form should contain information not shown in the table body. Items might include bore size, locking device, operator type, applicable code, actuator fluid pressure, firesafe, tight shutoff, contaminant size/condition, design differential pressure, gasket type, or seal type. The completed form should be transmitted to the piping materials group for completion of the SP items specification.
