CFC Youth for Christ High School Based Manual
YFC High School Based Program
A. Rationale Many years ago, CFC Youth for Christ, then a parish/ community based organization, felt a calling to even more actively and deliberately reach out to the youth. As a result, the College/ Campus and High School Programs were established in several major high schools and campuses in Metro Manila, and many of those schools High School Clubs were blessed. Students grew in their love for God. Families were reunited. Lives were changed by the ever transforming, redeeming love of God. CFC Youth for Christ feels stronger God’s call to share this same love not only to its members but also to the whole school – that more may experience the life and growth that has made us better persons in accordance with the mission and vision of Youth for Christ and of the schools we’ve come to call our second home. In responding to this call, we find ourselves radically readjusting our structure and activities in such a way that the blessings we receive will be made available to the entire school population. YFC High School Based is one of the 5 major programs of YFC. CFC Youth for Christ

YFC High School Based was made specifically to cater to the YFC’s and would be YFC’s in the high school level. CFC Youth for Christ believes that there’s need to evangelize the young from the High Schools because it is in these stages of their lives, wherein they’re foundations are crucial. Whatever they do in this age could make or break them as a person. B. Vision
FAMILIES IN THE HOLY SPIRIT RENEWING THE FACE OF THE EARTH Moved by the Holy Spirit, one with the Catholic Church, blessed to witness to Christ’s love and service, Couples for Christ is a united global community of family evangelizers that sets the world on fire with the fullness of God’s transforming love

B. THE BASIC YFC HSB STRUCTURE The Basic YFC HSB Structure
HSB Program FTW/MV
Provincial Program CC / Sector Program CC
HSB Program Youth Heads
HPV School
This is the Basic YFC HSB Structure. This means that: 1) Every area starts with having a Program Couple Coordinator and Youth Head Counterpart as the head of the YFC HS Based Program in the area. 2) The YFC HS Based program develops and grows in its structure when schools are added in the area. 3) In this setting, the HPVs attend their upper households with the provincial/ sector Couple Coordinator in their area. 4) The HPVs conduct lower households with the YFC Club President (Pres.), and YFC VP of Internal Affairs (VP-IA).
The brother’s household is composed of all YFC Club Presidents of Co-Ed, and YFC Club Presidents of all-boys schools, headed by an appointed HPV brother. The sister’s household is composed of all VP-IAs, and YFC Club Presidents of all-girls schools.
5) Households must be composed of: Three YFC HS Club Presidents and their EVPs for brothers ( Three VP-IAs or YFC Club Presidents of all-girls schools. NOTE: Groupings of households depend on the area of proximity between schools.
8
6) The HS Based Program Couple Coordinator and Youth head may conduct coordination meetings with the HPVs in its areas to coordinate, plan growth of the program in their area, and collect status reports. ACCOMMODATING THE GROWTH OF THE PROGRAM As evangelization continues to thrive in the area, the area might go through certain difficulties in order to handle its growth. Issues like lack of manpower in leading the schools, and geographical location of schools may arise as a provice/sector begins to increase in its number of schools. As this happens, the sector/province may consider handling the program through the following: 7) The province/sector may now appoint a Highschool Area Couple Coordinator and Youth Head within its structure to handle at least five (5) schools. 8) Assigning of Highschool Area Couple Coordinators and Youth Heads may arise due to the following needs: A sector/province reaches more than 10 schools, thus, being too much for the Sector/Provincial HS Couple Coordinator and its Youth Head to handle. A sector/province has schools that are difficult to reach in terms of its geographical location thus needing to appoint a person that is closer to that area. 9) The High School Base Area Coordinator and Youth Head1 have the following roles and responsibilities:
Reports directly to the YFC HSB Sector Program head. Cascades program direction to HPVs in his/her area. Monitors and tracks progress of schools in his/her area. Conduct lower households with the HPVs in their area Collect and consolidate all reports and updates with regard to its status in the school Conduct values formation to the ANCOP scholars
10) In this setting, the Higschool Area Couple Coordinators and Youth Heads conduct lower households with the HPVs in their area, while they attend their upper households with the Provincial Program CC/Sector Program CC.
1
An HSB Area Coordinator and Youth Head are assigned given the following provisions. A) proximity of schools and B) Number of schools – when area exceeds 10 schools.
9
NOTE: For HSB Area Youth Heads who are appointed due to proximity concerns, they may attend the household in the nearest chapter of the Community Based program. 11) The brother HPVs continue to have lower households with the Presidents and EVPs in the area, while sister HPVs have lower households with the VPIAs in the area, presidents of all girls schools and evps, NOTE: In cases that there is no brother or sister HPV to handle a household in an area, the Highschool Area Couple Coordinator and Youth Head handle the specific household needed (whether brother or sister).

YFC High School Based Activities
11
YFC High School Based Club Jumpstarting YFC High School Based in the Schools STEP ONE: GATHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Identify YFC members in the school This allows us to have more manpower in opening up the school. These YFC members may be potential officers for the recognized group. Determine the type of school (public/private/sectarian/and non-sectarian) in order to determine the type of approach and strategy in approaching the school. Determine the demographic of the students in the school (general information on the kinds of students and youth) Know the key persons in the school (administration, principal, department that handles all recognized groups) in order to assist us in entering the school through the proper process. This is to be done 2 months before step two.
STEP TWO:
PLAN YOUR COURSE OF ACTION
Identify key people that will help you as you open the school. a) Alumni members of the school b) Possible members of your Highschool Support Group (HSG) c) A community member who is currently part of the school(CFC,SFC,YFC.) Gather your HSG and train them on the basics of YFC HSB. Get in touch with community members who are working in the school, or alumni members in order to help you get more information or endorsement to the school. Prepare all the necessary materials for the presentation a) YFC primer b) Proposal letter c) Endorsement letter (from parish, Dep-Ed, or community members that are part of the school) if needed
STEP THREE:
12
SUBMIT A PROPOSAL
Set an appointment with the school administration for the YFC Presentation – this may be done by the HPV, High School Based Program Head, Couple Coordinator or any other person who has contact with the school administration. This should be done at the very start of the school-year, or even before school starts; so that the administration will have enough time to go over the materials and incorporate YFC into the school structure. If this is done in the middle of the school-year, the administration will usually ask to be followed up at a later time and request us to come back the following year.
The High School Based Program Head, High School Based Couple Coordinator and HPV meet with the administration and explain the purpose of the YFC. They request permission to gather YFC members in the school and make YFC an official recognized group.
The following materials should accompany the presentation: a) Sample Presentation Letter (See Appendices) b) YFC High School Presentation Kit (See Appendices)
After meeting with the administration, ALWAYS TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING in order for us to consistently follow up on the school’s response. a) Contact persons within school administration b) Names of school principal, probable club moderator c) Telephone number and e-mail address (if any) of the school d) Schedule of next appointment STEP FOUR:(if any)
STRATEGIZE WITH YOUR HIGHSCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP
Gather possible members. a) Start gathering the existing YFC members in the school, if any. These members can help us in setting up the recognized group. Gather them and give a short exhortation talk about exciting them to serve in YFC HSB.
13
b) If there are no existing YFC members, ask permission to do room-to-room invitation. NOTE: Make sure to get all the contact numbers of the possible members. There are cases in which schools give already a number of your possible members, in which case gathering possible members is not needed.
Plan for the Youth Camp a) Determine the number of possible members. b) Plan your youth camp (refer to planning youth camp for HS based)
Plan for upcoming activities after the youth camp a) Possible officers for the organization b) Schedule and implementation of three month training c) Three month plan for general assemblies and household
STEP FIVE:
FORM YOUR CORE GROUP AND PLAN FOR THE ACTIVITIES OF YOUR SCHOOL
The HPV, the HSPH and the HSCC discern for a core group composed of the following positions: President Vice President external(VP ex) Vice President for Internal Affairs (VP-IA) Vice President for Special Projects (VP-SP) Vice President for Evangelization (VP-E) Batch Representatives ***For the roles and responsibilities of each position, please refer to the previous section (containing structure of YFC High School-Based).
After each position has been filled with the chosen YFC leader, the other members in the YFC club will choose their respective committees. All club members should fall under a committee. Ideally, all members in the same committee form one household.
14
The HPV and the core group then plan the program of activities for the school year. Plans for the whole year should be broken down into monthly / weekly plans. You may refer to the following sections in this manual: Planning 101 The High School Based Pastoral Formation Track Planning A General Assembly Planning A Youth Camp Planning A Special Project There should be at least two youth camps in the plans. The plans should be in line with the YFC National Calendar of Activities (e.g. International Leaders’ Conference, CFC Anniversary) They should be scheduled around the activities of the school. IT IS BETTER TO CONSULT THE MODERATOR WHEN PLANNING so as to avoid any conflict. Is a teacher in-charge of the club assigned by the school. 16
A.General Description of Activities Attraction This is the initial phase wherein the main goal is to attract and excite the youth to the Christian life. Activities in this phase are presented in the most exciting and relevant way. (e.g. High School High Party, Club selling, etc.) Formation Once they have responded to the invitation, the program aims to provide substance in the lives of each member and instill in them the values that they need for growth and development. (e.g. Three year formation track. Refer to Three year formation track manual) Empowerment Once sustained, they are empowered to be the ones “calling” their friends to Christ by witnessing their life to them. In this phase they receive leadership training, invitations to serve in camps and recollections, take on more responsible roles in YFC as a core group, or be invited to out-of-town mission trips.

Encourage the officers/members to set a common prayer time before the actual recollection. Don’t forget to prepare letters of permission and waiver forms for the parents of the officers. The talk outlines are to be taken from YFC manuals Have fun!

B. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY (GA) General Assemblies are quarterly gatherings of all YFC members in the school including both club members and non-club members. This may also be a venue for NonClub YFC members within the school to observe the YFC culture.
OBJECTIVE:
The general assembly is aimed at reaching out to YFC members studying in the school but are not members of the official YFC Club. This ensures that the Non-Club YFC members will continue to receive the same teachings and nourishment as the other YFCs. This also allows them to interact with the other YFCs in the school. This will be a venue to inform and update the YFC members about the upcoming activities.
ELEMENTS: The General Assembly is composed of four parts: 1. Worship This is an important part of YFC culture that must be present in every GA. It allows the YFC members to come before the Lord together and set their hearts in the right spirit for the activity.
2. Fellowship Knowing that some YFC members in the school may not necessarily be part of the club, this element allows a member to experience a deeper bonding with the rest of the YFC Community. 3. Teaching Taken from the YFC Chapter Assembly Manual, the teaching, in the form of an activity or a talk, serves as a source of spiritual and emotional nourishment for each YFC member in the school. Speakers are preferably sector heads within the sector and other sectors as well.
30
4. Group Sharing This allows YFC members and Non-Club YFC members to share their inputs and experiences regarding the General Assembly’s topic.
PLANNING FOR A GENERAL ASSEMBLY In planning for the General Assembly, it is suggested that the HPV holds a service meeting with the officers of the school to discuss the topic, as well as finalize the different needs before the General Assembly. The suggested format of the core group meeting is as follows: 5 minutes 30 minutes
5 minutes
I.
Opening Prayer Topic Discussion Assignment of Roles Discussion of Roles Final Details Closing Prayer
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF EACH TEAM MEMBER
Committees Secretariat This team is in charge of all administrative duties for the assembly, from preparation of IDs and information sheets up to the reservation of the venue. The team should preferably come from the Internal Affairs committee, with the VP for Internal Affairs as the overseer. Along with the Physical Arrangement team, they should be the earliest to arrive and the last to leave.
Posters / Flyers
Room assignment
Registration forms/ Information
for inviting people to attend the General Assembly should contain details: the exact time and venue of the GA, contact persons should be attractive and attention-getting reservation for the venue should be done at least two weeks prior to the assembly the size of the room should be large enough to accommodate the expected no. of people should be complete with regard to members’ information e.g. Name, birthday, address, contact nos., e-mail addresses for the database/ checking of attendance
31
sheets The Music Ministry The music ministry should be able to bring people closer to God through appropriate songs chosen by the worship leader. They should have practiced the songs days before the assembly. The members of the music ministry must always be ready to respond to the needs of the worship leader.
Songs
Song sheets/ Visual materials
Guitars and other instruments Singers
gathering songs: are usually fast songs that are meant to bring people together and prepare them for worship (specifically, it is encouraged to use original YFC songs). Usually these songs are not used in the worship proper. praise songs: are fast songs used to prepare the members’ hearts for worship – they are addressed to God and are usually in the first person. (e.g. Grateful) worship songs: are slow songs to be used in the worship. They are meant to bring the person to “the highest glory,” that is, in intimate worship of God. Again, these are addressed to God and are usually in the first person (e.g. Larger Than Life, I Give My All) reflection songs: are slow songs that are used after a talk or sharing or activity. These are not used in worship as they are meant to help the person reflect. They can be either in the first person or in the form of God speaking. (e.g. Hallehujah) activity / action songs: these are fast songs with actions or dance steps that are usually meant to liven the gathering; can also be used to gather people should be large enough for people at the back of the room to see should contain the correct lyrics, that are uniform with the lyrics that are sung in bigger YFC gatherings should be tuned and checked before the gathering there should be at least 2 guitars, in case the strings of one guitar breaks in the middle of a song should be focused on God and bringing people to Him through their singing, and not focused on allowing other people to see how well they sing should know the songs by heart, as much as possible
32
The Logistics Team This team should be the first to arrive in the venue, and the last ones to leave (1 hour prior to the assembly, must be able to set-up the place, and be ready to fix the place up again after the assembly).
Chairs and tables
Sound system Venue Design
the chairs should be properly arranged; depending on the format requested for by the GA team leader – the arrangement should ensure the least distraction for the members. The chairs should face away from the doors and windows. the tables are for the registration team and is usually located at the entrance of the venue. should be large enough for the venue should be loud and clear enough for all should be in line with the theme or topic of the GA should help in creating a fun atmosphere need not be expensive – be creative! use old materials, etc.
PASTORAL FORMATION TEAM The Household Heads (HH) The Household Heads play an important role in the GAs as they are the ones responsible for inviting the people to the event. They should call their members a week before the assembly, and follow ups should be made 2 or 3 days before the event itself. They should also encourage YFC members who are not club members to attend.
The Household head should have the ff: Phone numbers of YFCs to call
List of household members’ classmates who are also YFC
to be able to contact the members and to make sure that they attend to invite them to attend
33
The Speakers They are responsible for bringing across God’s message to the members. Therefore, proper discernment in choosing the appropriate talk for the assembly is important. (Pls. refer to Chapter Assembly Manual for the different talks)
Follow-ups and confirmation
This should be done by the GA team leader. The HPV may help in doing this.
The Worship Leader The worship leader must be a brother with a heart filled with love and service for his brothers and sisters. He must be a good witness of Christ, both in and out of the YFC Club and school. He must have the courage to lead the people in worship, to pray and sing in front of them, as well as speak God’s Word to them.
Note: For the first GAs of the year, it is suggested that the HPV of the school lead the worship and that the worship workshop takes place, so that the rest of the school body will be able to learn from him. After which, the President or the other officers should be able to lead the worship themselves.
The Worship Proper should include the ff: Exhortation
Songs
Set everyone’s heart for the workshop. Excite them of what is to happen. Site examples or stories that will help them focus on God’s greatness to our community, family, personal life, etc. should never begin with an apology; should be inspiring and uplifting should only last for 2-3 minutes the worship leader chooses the songs to be sung in the worship the songs must be in line with the topic for the day, as well as the exhortation and the prayers, so that the activity would become a seamless experience of God’s Word should coordinate with the Music Ministry
34
II.

The following Youth Camp, Youth Camp Training, and Regular Assemblies (chapter for commbased, club meeting for highschool, and prayer assemblies for campus) will be handled by: Community Based – chapterheads Higschool – VP on Internal Affairs, and EVP of highschool Campus – VP Evangelization The implementation of the 3 year pastoral formation track will be handled by: Community Based – Cluster heads Highschool Based - Club President or Senior Sister Campus Based - EVP – 3-Year Pastoral Formation Track, HLT 3. Simultaneous with Regularized Activities. The implementation of the 3-year PFO will be simultaneous with the: Chapter Assembly – for community based; Club Meetings – for highschool based; Prayer Assemblies – for campus based Only those who have not yet attended a particular 3-year PFO will attend such. The rest will push through with the regular activities. 4. Area of Focus.
