COLOR
HUE
the place of the color within the color spectrum Sir Isaac newton discovered that a prism separates light into a spectrum of colors, red, blue, violet, indigo, etc.
VALUE
a color’s intrinsic lightness or darkness.
SHADE
when black is added to a hue.
If I add black to a hue the value becomes darker, but the hue remains the same, above are shades of red.
TINT
a hue that has been altered by adding white. Below are tints of red.
SATURATION
the relative purity color as it neutralizes to gray
HUE RELATIONSHIPS COMPLEMENTARY
when two colors are opposite eachother on the color wheel
ANALAGOUS
when colors are side-by-side on the color wheel.
TRIADIC
also called “split complementary,” these colors are at 120 degree intervals on the color wheel. One color compliments two colors that are the same distance from it’s true compiment.
MONOCHROMATIC
a group of colors that share the same hue but can be different values i.e. tints or shades
