Shani Shani is one of the nine primary celestial beings in Hindu astrology (that is, Vedic astrology). Shani is embodied in the planet Saturn. Shani is the Lord of Saturday. He is Tamas in nature and represents learning the hard way , Career and Longevity. The origin of word comes from the following: Shanaye Kramati Sa: i.e. the one who moves slowly. Saturn takes about 30 years to revolve around the Sun, thus it moves slowly compared to other planets, thus the Sanskrit name. Shani is actually a demi-god and is a son of Surya (the Hindu Sun God) and his wife Chhaya . It is said that when he opened his eyes as a baby for the very first time, the sun went into an eclipse, which clearly
denotes the impact of Shani on astrological charts (horoscope). He is depicted dark in colour, clothed in black; holding a sword, arrows and two daggers and variously mounted on a black crow or a raven. The rahu kala is considered inauspicious.According to legend, during the Samudra manthan, the asura Rahu drank some of the divine nectar. But before the nectar could pass his throat, Mohini (the female avatar of Vishnu) cut off his head. The head, however, remained immortal and is called Rahu , while the rest of the body became Ketu. It is believed that this immortal head occasionally swallows the sun or the moon, causing eclipses. Then, the sun or moon passes through the opening at the neck, ending the eclipse.
Ketu Ketu is the Lord of Descending/South lunar node. Ketu is generally referred to as a "shadow" planet. He is considered as Tail of the Demon Snake. H e is Tamas in nature and represents supernatural influences.Astronomically, Ketu and Rahu denote the points of intersection of the paths of the Sun and the Moon as they move on the celestial sphere. Therefore, Rahu and Ketu are respectively called the north and the south lunar nodes. The fact that eclipses occur when Sun and Moon are at one of these points gives rise to the story of the swallowing of the Sun and the Moon.

The Sun is considered as the main source of energy, and fire is considered as a representation of the Sun's energy. According to the ancient texts on Homams, any offer to Fire as a god, is actually an offer to Sun. Any such offer is done either to enrich energy or to destroy the undesirable elements in the environment, and thus, in both ways, environment is protected. Like Pujas, Homams are also believed to be one of the greatest ritual in Hindu religion, whereby doing this, one can get rid of any obstacles and also attain the self-satisfaction. The goal of all Homams is the prosperity of the people by energizing and protecting the environment. It is said that when Lord Brahma ( the creator among the Trinity) created man, he also created Homam for man's livelihood and his attainment of desires. The main aim of Homam is derived from the Vedas or the ancient texts of Hindus. These Vedas explains how a human should be, how he should be helpful to others and what are the good actions that he should perform. Vedas and Homam are eternal truths which have neither beginning nor end, and are divine, not the creation of humans. To perform any Puja or Homam, first of all, a priest is appointed. While performing any Puja, first of all, the priest or Pandit ji perform the Puja of the Lord Ganesh as Lord Ganesh holds a unique position in the Indian culture and any ceremony, ritual, Puja or new undertaking begins with invoking the power of Ganesh, otherwise it is regarded as futile. A Kalash (brass or copper pot filled with sacred water) is placed with a coconut and different fruits, grains and betel leaves in front of it. After the Ganesh Puja is complete, then the Puja of the respective god or goddess and Yantra is performed on whose behalf the Homam is performed. This is done with the recitation of a Mantra for that particular deity with the offerings of water, Chandan (sandalwood) paste, Sindoor (vermilion), rice, milk mixed with floral-scented oil, flowers, fruits and sweets. After the Puja is completed by the priest, preparations are then made for the Yagna or Homams (sacred fire ritual) to be performed. This is the last part of the Puja and goes on for over an hour. Some of the things that are placed in the Agni (fire) during Homam are said to transmit some kind of medicinal smoke and this smoke mixes in the air thereby curing lots of human diseases. Sandalwood, small pieces of Banyan tree, fragrant herbs and pure ghee are used as an o ffering to the Agni (sacred fire), with the recitation of Mantras. The smoke, which comes out of the Homams, purify the air and this smoke does not cause any air pollution and also have some medicinal values. In the end, the Yantras are energized with the vibrations of the Mantras. The energized Yantras are thus empowered and enable the purpose for which they are being used

Vastu Homam also Vastu Veda, ( "science of construction", "architecture") is a traditional Hindu system of design based on directional alignments. It is primarily applied in Hindu architecture, especially for Hindu temples, although it covers other applications, including poetry, dance, sculpture, etc. The foundation of Vastu is traditionally ascribed to the mythical sage Mamuni Mayan. The Vastu Purusha Mandala is an indispensable part of vastu shastra and constitutes the mathematical and diagrammatic basis for generating design. It is the metaphysical plan of a building that incorporates the course of the heavenly bodies and supernatural forces. Purusha refers to energy, power, soul or cosmic man. Mand ala is the generic name for any p lan or chart which symbolically represents the cosmos. In Hindu cosmology the surface of the earth is represented as a square, the most fundamental of all Hindu forms. The earth is represented as four-cornered in reference to the horizon's relationship with sunrise and sunset, the North and South direction. It is called Chaturbhuji (four cornered) and represented in the form of the Prithvi Mandala. The astrological charts or horoscopes also represent in a square plan the positions of the sun, moon, planets and zodiac constellations with reference to a specific person's place and time of birth. The legend of the Vastu Purusha is related thus. Once a formless being blocked the heaven from the earth and Brahma with many other gods trapped him to the ground. This incident is depicted graphically in the Vastu Purusha Mandala with portions allocated hierarchically to each deity based on their contributions and positions. Brahma occupied the central portion - the Brahmasthana- and other gods were distributed around in a concentric pattern. There are 45 gods in all including 32 outer deities.

Lakshmi Narasimha Homam, the fourth incarnation of God Vishnu, is half-human half-lion and provides a very fascinating study of the Lord's incarnation in order to alleviate the sufferings of his devotees. Sage Kashyap had four wives, Diti, Aditi, Vinita and Kudroo. Diti gave bir th to demons and from Aditi were born gods, while from Vinita was born Garud, the carrier of Vishnu and the last one Kudroo created the hydras. Dithi gave birth to Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Vishnu killed Hiranyaksha as he oppressed the devas. At the death of Hiranyaksha, Hiranyakashipu was overpowered with grief. His mother Dithi was heart -broken. Hiranyakashipu also was filled with sorrow and it burnt his own heart like fire. He hated Vishnu and Vishnu's very name was like poison to him. His blood was boiling with the hatred of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu, King of the Rakshasas, retired to the mountain Mandara and began tapas - the severe order of penance. Brahma was pleased with his devotion. He appeared to Hiranyakashipu and said, 'Hiranyakashipu, arise. I am pleased with your devotion. I have never seen such a severe meditation before. Ask for whatever you desire.' Hiranyakashipu replied, "Great Lord, if you will grant my prayer, this is what I seek: Let not death come to me from any creature created by you; let me not meet with death either in the house or outside it; let not my death occur either during the day or at night; no weapon should cause my death; I should not die either on land or in the sky." After this blessing the demon crossed all bounds in oppression and dethroned Indra, the king of heavens. The very gods were filled with fear. Indra, along with the other gods, appeared before Brahma and prayed for deliverance. Brahma was very much worried and replied that the demon had become powerful due to the blessings bestowed by him and he could not destroy him. He also advised Indra to go to Vishnu, which they did. The gods went to Vishnu and retold their story of sufferings and said that due to boons given by Brahma the demon had been indulging in all
sorts of oppression. Vishnu promised to destroy him in due course of time. At last the king thundered at the boy, "You, curse of the family! Have you not yet given up your evil thoughts? The three worlds tremble at my glance. But you, my son, how do you dare to disobey me? You are very young; some one must have misled you and encouraged you. Otherwise you would not have had such evil ideas and such courage. Tell me who has shown you such an evil path." The earth shook as the king roared at the boy. But Prahalad calmly replied, "Dear father, it was Hari who gave me this courage. He is stronger than anyone else. You and I, the universe, even Brahma are nothing before his strength. He is the real Lord of the Universe." All the gods were under the thumb of the mighty Hiranyakashipu; and here was a mere boy of five giving him advice. The king of the Rakshasas was mad with anger. He shouted in rage: "Unlucky fool, your death is near. I am the Lord of all the worlds, the only master. Is there another? Where is he? Show him to me." "He is everywhere," young Prahlad's answer came without a moment's delay. The king could no longer control himself through anger. He hit a pillar with his mace. "Wicked fellow, is he everywhere? You mad boy, why should he not appear to me in this pillar? I am going to kill you this very moment. You have been praising Hari as the Lord of the Universe. Let him come to your help if he can." So saying he drew out his sword and pounced upon the little boy. There was a terrible deafening noise as if the universe itself split into two. Even the very brave Hiranyakashipu stared from his place at the terrible noise. The courtiers shook with fear and stood like statues of stone. As the stunned men watched, the pillar split into two.
