Investigatory Investigatory Project Proposal in Chemistry By: Jelaiza Ramos
Title: Egg as Facial Mask (Beauty Regimen)
Purpose: To improve physical appearance of the face; to know the egg’s health benefit and to prove the egg’s potential as beauty regimen. regimen . Problem: Are Eggs good for our skin s kin and is it effective or advisable for us to use eggs as a facial mask? Hypothesis: If we used eggs as a Facial mask, then we would get a good result on our skin based on the nutrients present in the egg. Experimental Design: Controlled Variable/s - Amount of Egg/s Used - Amount of Time Manipulated Manipulated Variable/s - Amount of Nutrients present in the Egg Responding Variable/s - Appearance and Texture of the Skin in the Face
Materials:
1 Egg 2 Small Bowl/Container Brush (If not available, Use your Hands) 2-ply Tissue Warm and Cold Water (For Rinsing/Washing) Face Towel (For Drying) Headband (Optional)
Procedure: 1. Wash your face with warm water first before applying the egg white to remove dirt and oil in your face. 2. Use the face towel to wipe your face after washing.
3. Pull your hair back (using a headband) to keep it away from face while doing procedure. 4. Crack open an egg in half and pour the egg white into a small bowl or plastic container), be careful not to break the egg yolk and let it drop in. 5. Follow any of these procedures depending on what the problem is: For minimising pores, whiten face, and induce collagen Using a brush (or your finger, but it will be very messy), apply the egg white all over your face, avoiding your eyes and mouth areas. It’s important not to apply there as the mask will tighten when dried and you will have lotsa wrinkles in these areas if you apply there. Wash off after about 15 mins. You can put egg white on your neck too. For deep cleansing and to remove black heads Using a brush (or your finger, but it will be very messy), apply the egg white all over your face, avoiding your eyes and mouth areas. Tear holes for eyes and nose and mouth on a piece of 2-ply thin tissue, and put over the face. For better results, i usually tear the tissues into smaller pieces and put on different parts of my face. Next, re-apply more egg white over the tissues. Wait for it to be dried, and peel off the tissues in an upward direction from your face. 6. Rinse Face using Cold water to close Open Pores; Dry up using Face towel Afterwards.
Data Gathered: Benefits of Egg White Face Mask: Regular application of egg white mask shrinks skin pores thereby prevents accumulation of grime and dirt in pores. It puts an end to pimple and acne breakouts. Though some people say that egg white face mask for acne scars is very beneficial, but it is not proven. This mask cleanses the skin deeply by making it supple, soft and bright. Egg white facial mask tightens the skin if applied every week and thereby delays the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on neck and face. This is the most beneficial face mask for people with oily skin because it is very drying and helps to remove excess oil from skin.
Charasterics and Chemical Components of an Egg Eggs are nutritious foods that provide a range of vitamins and minerals that keep your body healthy; those same nutrients also provide benefits for your skin. The compounds found in eggs keep your skin clear of infections and acne, regenerate the tissues of your skin and may protect you from skin cancer. Protein Eggs are a good source of high-quality protein; one large egg provides you with 6.2 g of this macronutrient. The protein in eggs gives you amino acids needed for tissue repair, an especially important function for good skin. Your skin is made up of protein, and including eggs in your diet helps you get the protein you need to keep your skin healthy. Include 50 to 175 g of protein in your diet each day for best skin health. Selenium Each large egg provides you with 15.3 mcg of selenium, a considerable portion of the 55 mcg your body requires daily. Selenium boosts immune system function, which can help ward off skin infections that damage the health of this organ. The selenium in eggs may also decrease your risk of skin cancer, according to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. The website notes that a low level of selenium intake may trigger this type of cancer. Vitamin A Eat an egg, and you take in 270 IU of vitamin A; you need 3,000 IU of vitamin A each day. The vitamin available in eggs provides a number of benefits for your skin, starting with its influence on cellular reproduction. This vitamin encourages your cells to reproduce
normally instead of forming abnormal clumps that can develop into moles and skin tags. Vitamin A may also prevent acne breakouts. Copper One large egg provides you with 0.04 mcg of copper, a small amount of the 900 mcg of copper your body needs every day. The copper in your diet contributes to skin health -- the peptides in this mineral play a role in tissue regeneration, helping to reduce scar tissue on your skin. It also boosts the production of elastin, a compound that keeps your skin strong and healthy.
Final Output: (Immediate results after applying this mask) * Amazing whitened face * All pores have “Shrunken”, the face becomes pore less * Good deep cleansing effect * Good tightening effect * Immediate improvement on my
daddy and mummy’s deep wrinkles * The face is supple * Texture is good * Good oil balancing as i have super oily face, if i use it, the face becomes less oily
Conclusion: My Hypothesis was right; we got a good result on our face after undergoing the experiment. We have proven that eggs are advisable as facial masks and also effective when used onto skin.
