IMO FTP Code International Code for Application of Fire Test Procedures This information sheet describes the general principles for determini ng the reaction and resistance to re of various materials and construction compocomponents, as specied in the FTP Code. The FTP Code consists of three separate sections:
Section 1: General rules for testing and approval Annex 1: List of re tests for reaction to re: Part 1: Non-combustibility. ISO 1182 Part 2: Smoke and toxicity test, ISO 5659 Part 5: Surface ammability ammability,, IMO Res.A.653 Part 6: Primary deck coverings, IMO Res.A.653 + A.687 Part 7: Vertically supported textiles and lms, IMO Res.A.563 Part 8: Upholstered furniture, IMO Res.A.562 Part 9: Bedding components, IMO Res.A.688 Part 10: Test for re-restricting materials for high speed craft, IMO Res. MCS.40(64), amendment.
List of re tests for resistance to re: Part 3: “A” “A”, “B” and “F” class divisions (IMO Res.A.754) with additional tests for thermal radiation and requirements for testing of continuous “B” class divisions. Part 4: Fire door control systems. Part 11: Test for re-restricting divisions for high speed craft, IMO Res. MCS.45(65), amendment The text of the test procedures are not included here, but additional requirerequirements are listed here and the assembly resolutions Res.A.xxx can be found in section 2 and 3. Example of additional requirement: IMO Res.A.754 requires that all materials for A- and B-class divisions - except adhesives - shall be non-combustible. AddiAdditionally, the FTP code requires that adhesives shall have low ame charactericharacteristics, i.e. they should pass the test specied in part 5. The problems of material identication and properties are explained in a separate DBI information sheet. DBI has produced special information sheets for many of the test methods listed above. Annex 2: List of products which may be installed without testing Annex 3: Use of other test procedures Period of validity for earlier test methods. Such test certicates are no longer valid and the validity of existing type approvals, based on such tests, will expire at the latest by the end of 2003. Section 2: Fire test procedures referred to in the FTP Code Complete text of the assembly resolutions mentioned in section 1.
Section 3: Relevant fre test procedures Complete text of other resolutions by the Marine Safety Committee (MSC). Most of the resolutions are concerned with re detection and extinguishing. DBI does not perform re detection tests. However, there are also a few resolutions which deal with reaction and resistance to re: •
