HSE DIRECTIVE 9 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT ATTACHMENT Attachment 1: Recommendations or use o ear protection and limitied periods o work in noisy areas
ATTACHMENT 1: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF EAR PROTECTION Recommendations or use o ear protection and limited periods o work in noisy areasr Simple earmus are to be used in all areas where the noise level exceeds 80 dBA. Double ear protection (earmus and ear plugs) is to be used in all areas where the noise level exceeds 95 dBA. Reduced periods o stay are to be introduced in all areas where the noise level exceeds 90 dBA. In addition to area noise, one must take into account the sel-made noise when it comes to maximum period o stay and protection. In need o noise breaks, it must also be taken into account sel-made noise. Noise rom the angle grinder, cutting torch, high-pressure spray equipment, pneumatic tools, sandblast equipment, needle gun etc., or certain personnel groups constitute a signiicant contribution to the total noise dose during a 12-hour shits. Considerationshouldbegiventonoiseexposureinthechoiceofworking method, hand tools and machines. Selection o low noise processing methods and the use o low-noise tools must be sought. Area noise dB(A)
