The Server has a dedicated Internet Line, (DSL, 64k downstream, 32K upstream). Access is provided by Grameen Internet. The settings are: IP: 203.191.32.86 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Def. gateway: 203.191.32.3 DNS 1: 203.191.33.5 DNS 2: 203.191.33.8 The internet access is by default fire walled with the standard Win XP firewall. Phone access is provided by a “Panasonic 308 EASA Phone” appliance. Right now, there are 9 phones attached, three more are needed. A problem is that there are only three outside lines, which cannot be expanded easily. IT support and maintenance is handled by Technics Computers. General suggestions: • All of the PC’s need to have the recent Windows and Office updates installed. •
The network switch is a 8-port model, which should be switched to one with 16, maybe even 24 ports to accommodate visitors and future workstations Prepared By.........Sheikh Md. Rasel
ET E T E T Elegant Team Development Ltd. •
22
The Internet Firewall (currently the one which is build-in with Windows XP) is not very secure, nor configurable. I highly recommend buying a hardware firewall and router that also provides a VPN connection to the Germany office.
•
Further the bandwidth should be upgraded to at least 128k downstream, better would be 256k.
•
The LAN port at the “visitor desk” (Currently with no desk. The port is at the wall of one of the sample rooms) is inactive. It seems to be connected to the switch but either the cable is faulty, or it is not connected properly.
•
The internet connection via Grameen Internet is not reliable. I’ve been assured by Mr. Sarkar of Technics Computers that we will regrettably have to live with this, as Grameen is at the moment the most reliable provider in Dhaka at all. Thus the bandwidth is not secure, and the connection can fail at any moment. A solution would be to use a slightly more stable dial-in access as backup. The suggested hardware router should incorporate this functionality. Still I recommend to always keeping in mind for future workflows that internet access may not work at any given time.
•
Email is currently handled by Grameen Internet too. Their email server is not fire walled, and also a so-called “open relay” server, which means that it will blocked by other email servers.
•
More telephones can apparently be added easily. Technics Computer should be asked if they can provide the service to connect them.
•
Currently there is no backup implemented. There is a CD-writer in the server, which could be used for this. As the documents folder alone exceeds 1 GB of data, a tape backup would be more convenient.
Support and Maintenance: Currently handled by Technics Computers. They should continue with this, but in the long run, hiring an employee who is Prepared By.........Sheikh Md. Rasel
