METHOD STATEMENT FOR PAINT
1. SCOPE: The work under this method statement consists of furnishing all the surfaces in any floor and at any height in connection with surface preparation, mixing, painting concrete works i.e. walls, ceilings and all such surfaces, architectural textured coating, as shown on drawings and/or directed by the Engineer.
2. Submittals: 1.
Samples of all colours/textures and finishes shall be prepared in advance of reuirement so as not to delay work and shall be submitted to Engineer for approval before any work is commenced. !ny work done without such approval shall be redone to the Engineer"s satisfaction, without additional expense to the Employer. #anufacturer"s chart showing all the variety of paint/texture coating shall be submitted for colour/texture selection.

The Engineer will furnish a schedule of colour/tecture of each area and surface. !ll colours shall be mixed in accordance with the manufacturer"s selection.

Except as otherwise specified, all painting shall be applied in conformity with %S &' $(1 ) 'ainting of %uilding* as applicable to the work. !ll materials shall be acceptable, proven, first grade products and shall meet or exceed the minimum standards of reputable manufacturers as approved by the Engineer. &olours shall be pure, non +fading pigments, mildewproof, sun proof, finely ground in approved medium. &olour used on plaster and the concrete surface shall be limeproof. !ll materials shall be sub-ect to Engineer"s approval. !ll synthetic enamel paints and primers for structural steel works, metal works and wood works will be best available of its type and shall be approved by the Engineer prior to its procurement. !pproved uality eather Shield/eather &oat paint shall be used for painting the exteriors of the structures or other surfaces where specified on the drawings as directed by the Engineer. The plastic emulsion paint/vinyl emulsion paint or similar as approved by the Engineer shall be used for interior surfaces. 2 of 5

Textured coating wherever specified shall be acrylic resin based coating composed of acrylic copolymers, natural uart2, natural marble chips, metallic oxide, antibacterial and antifungal additives, and expanders, foaming and setting agents and shall be applied in accordance with approved manufacturer"s recommendations. !ll material for bitumen painting shall consist of bitumen grade 14/$4. 5t shall be used for foundations or wherever recommended by the Engineer. The rate of application in the foundations shall not less than $4 6b/ 144Sft each coat.
!ll material shall be delivered to site in their original unbroken containers or packages 7 shall bear the manufacturer"s name, label, brand 7 formula 7 will be mixed and applied in accordance with his directions.
4. Delivery, Storage and andling: 'aints/coatings shall be delivered to the site in sealed containers, which plainly shows the type of paint, colour 8formula or specifications number9 batch number, texture, uantity, date of manufacture, name of manufacturer and instructions for use. 'igmented paints shall be supplied in containers not larger than $4 litres. !ll materials shall be stored under cover in a clean storage space, which should be accessible at all the time to the Engineer. 5f storage is allowed inside the building, floors shall be kept clean and free from spillage.
!. E"e#ution: Except as otherwise specified all concrete and plastered surfaces are to be painted/coated. Surface Preparation:

!ll oil, grease, dirt, dust, loose mill scale and any other foreign substance shall be removed from the substrate surface to be painted/coated, polished and white washed by the use of a solvent and clean wiping material. :ollowing the solvent cleaning, the surface shall be cleaned by scrapping, chipping, blasting, wire brushing or other effective means as approved by the Engineer. 5n the event the surface becomes otherwise contaminated in the interval between cleaning and painting/coating, recleaning will be done by the contractor at no additional cost. Surfaces of stainless steel, aluminum bron2e and machined surfaces ad-acent to metal work being cleaned or painted shall be protected by effective masking or other suitable means, during the cleaning and painting operations. !ll the surfaces to be painted/coated with approved uality paint/coat shall be free from dust, dirt, fungus, lichen, algae etc. ;il paint, varnish and lime wash should always be removed by scraping and washing. !ll surfaces to be bitumen painted shall be thoroughly cleaned of any accretion, dust, dirt etc. by scraping, wirebrushing or as directed by the 3 of 5

Engineer. The surface shall be primed with a coat of asphalt oil used at the rate of not less than 1 gallon per 144 suare foot of area.

!ll paints and coating materials shall be in a thoroughly mixed condition at the time of application. !ll work shall be done in a workman like manner leaving the finished surface free from drips, ridges, waves, lapse and brush marks. !ll paint shall be applied under dry and dust free conditions unless approved the Engineer paint shall not be applied when the temperature of the metal or the surrounding air is below 3 degree centigrade. Surface shall be free from moisture at the time of painting. !ll primary paint shall be applied by brushing. The first coat of paint shall be applied immediately after cleaning. hen paint is applied by spraying, suitable measures shall be taken to prevent segregation of the paint in the container during painting operation. Effective means shall be adopted for the removing all free oil and moisture from the air supply lines of the spraying euipment. Each coat of paint shall be allowed to dry or harden thoroughly before the succeeding coat is applied. Surface to be painted that will be inaccessible after installation shall be completely painted prior to installation. &oats of eather Shield &oat paint and textured coating shall be applied in accordance with manufacturer"s instructions or as directed by the Engineer. :or painting only as much as much material should be mixed as can be used up in one hour. ;verthinning will not be permitted. !fter the first coat the surface will be soaked evenly four or five times and the second coat shall be applied after leaving for at least overnight.

here shown on drawings all the exterior finishes shall be painted/coated with eather Shield/weather coat paint or texture coated in approved colour/textures as per the manufacturer"s specifications. The number of coats shall be shown on the drawings or as directed by the Engineer. !ll wooden doors shall be painted with the approved synthetic enamel paint or lacuer polished as per manufacturer"s recommendation and instructions or after approval of the Engineer. 'lastic emulsion paint, vinyl emulsion paint or matt enamel paint of the approved make and shade shall be applied to surfaces as shown on drawings as per manufacturer"s instructions. The number of coats shall be as indicated on drawings or as directed by the Engineer.

Job Conditions:

;bserve manufacturer"s recommended minimum and maximum temperatures but do not apply paint or finish to any surface unless ambient temperature is 14 degree & or above or less than ( degree &. relative humidity. 'lace dry cloth to adeuately protect all finished works. ?emove and replace all items of finish hardware, device plates, accessories, lighting fixtures or other removable items. in no case shall be finish hardware or other finished item that is already fitted in to place be painted, unless otherwise specified.

Sa%ety Measures: 8a9 !ll the workers will be instructed to wear safety shoes or water boots, safety helmets, safety gloves and proper dress during paint, in order to avoid any mishaps. 8b9 Safe scaffolding shall be made available to work on height having green tag by safety department. 8c9 5n case of any mishap, firstaid facility and a vehicle will be available at site at all times during concreting in order to provide proper treatment to the workers.
