SECTION 1 GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Basler MOC2XXX Motor-Operated Potentiometer is an electromechanical device containing a motordriven, variable potentiometer and the limit switches required to provide remote adjustment of resistance, voltage, or frequency. MOC2XXX devices are available for ac or dc operation at 24, 32, 48, or 120 volts. Model Number The model number for this series of MOCs consists of the prefix MOC2 followed by three digits. The first digit establishes the input operating voltage. Input operating voltage options are listed in Table 1-1. Table 1-1. Input Operating Voltage Options Model

SECTION 2 • FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION INTRODUCTION MOC operation is described in the following paragraphs. Figure 2-1 illustrates the components, contact configurations, and terminals of the MOC.
Figure 2-1. MOC Components and Terminals
VOLTAGE INPUT Input voltage of 24, 32, 48, or 120 Vdc/Vac is applied at terminals 1 and 2. The MOC model number determines the nominal input voltage level. The input voltage is converted to a dc signal and supplied to terminals 3 (–) and 4 (+) for connection to an external switch (see Table 3-1). The external switch has three positions (Raise/off/lower) and applies the dc signal to the MOC motor in the desired polarity. Motor polarity is determined by the need to rotate the potentiometer wiper arm either clockwise or counterclockwise.
EXTERNAL SWITCH INPUTS Placing the external switch in the Raise or Lower position applies voltage to the MOC motor and causes it to rotate and move the MOC potentiometer wiper arm. If the external switch is placed in the Raise position, the polarity of the voltage applied to the motor causes it to rotate in the clockwise direction. Clockwise motor rotation continues until the external switch is released from the Raise position or until the MOC clockwise limit switch activates and removes the motor voltage. Placing the external switch in the Lower position applies voltage in a polarity that causes the motor to rotate in the counterclockwise direction. Counterclockwise motor rotation continues until the external switch is released from the Lower position or until the MOC counterclockwise limit switch activates and removes the motor voltage. Functional Description

ROTATIONAL LIMIT OUTPUT CONTACTS Two sets of single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) output contacts indicate the rotational limits of the MOC potentiometer. The contacts at terminals 8, 9, and 10 are controlled by the MOC clockwise limit switch and change state when the potentiometer reaches its clockwise limit. At the clockwise limit, the contacts at terminals 8 and 9 open and the contacts at terminals 9 and 10 close. The contacts at terminals 11, 12, and 13 are controlled by the MOC counterclockwise limit switch and change state when the potentiometer reaches its counterclockwise limit. At the counterclockwise limit, the contacts at terminals 11 and 12 open and the contacts at terminals 12 and 13 close.
DYNAMIC BRAKING Dynamic motor braking is obtained when MOC terminals 5 and 7 are shorted. An optional, external switch provides the necessary contact arrangement for the raise/lower function and the dynamic braking feature. Section 3, Installation, Accessory Items lists the MOC switches available from Basler Electric.
POTENTIOMETER OUTPUT The potentiometer serves as the adjusting component of the MOC and is connected to terminals 14, 15, and 16. The potentiometer wiper arm, connected to terminal 15, moves toward terminal 14 when the external switch is placed in the Raise position. When the external switch is placed in the Lower position, the wiper arm moves toward terminal 16.
