Om ! May He protect us both together; may He nourish us both together; May we work conjointly with great energy, May our study be vigorous and effective; May we not mutually dispute (or may we not hate any Om ! $ %he sages, verily, with due reverence, asked the holy &svalayana' How is that knowledge won which illumines the content of the word %at %ell us that, Holy )ir, by meditation on which you know the %ruth

8* Maya has forces two; one projection, %he other, concealment' the first projects %he world = all that is subtle and all gross
83 %he second veils, within, the gulf +etween the )eer and seen; without, %he gulf between creation and +rahman Maya causes endless cosmic flu-
86 Gescience appears in 5itness1light, %o subtle body conjoined, )pirit and mind co1dwelling there +ecome jiva phenomenal
88 His ivahood, %hrough ascription shines forth, also, n 5itness1light; together with %he fall of what conceals, and so, %he shining forth of distinction, %hat (ivahood disappears, too
8: )o also, through subservience Of +rahman to the #ower which 7eils ts difference from cosmos, +rahman shines forth in mutations
8< Here, too, the difference that holds +etween +rahman and the cosmos )hows not, once Maya2s power which 9onceals falls low; their difference s in creation; in +rahman never
8> Aive factors are there here; being, )hining, loving, form, and name, too; %he first three to +rahman pertain;
%wo others constitute the world
8? "eave aside the last two factors, +e intent on the former three; Dither in the heart, or without, #ractise always concentration
:@1:3 %wofold is concentration n the human heart' with or without &spects; that with aspects is, then, %wofold, conforming to 0word2 &nd 0object2; desire and its train &re objects of the mind; of them, &s spectator, meditate on 9onsciousness' that concentration 9onforms to objects 0 without %aints am; being, knowing, loving am; self1shining, devoid of 4uality2' to 0word2 conforms %hus concentration with aspects &bandoning 0objects2 and 0words2 Aor joy of deep )elf1e-perience, One wins concentration without &spects' a flame in windless spot

n the heart, outside too, in some Object twofold concentration %akes place with discrimination Of name and form from pure +eing
:8 %he third, as said above, takes place 5hen taste of bliss to silence leads; %ime may, without a break, be spent n these si- concentrations well
:: 5ith conceit in body gone, &nd )upreme )elf reali/ed, 5herever the mind may roam %here rests immortality %he knot of heart is cut asunder &nd all doubts are slain;
:< &ll modes of action dwindle away 5hen the )upreme )elf is seen
:> & finite soul, the supreme od = %hese notions are to Me imputed %hey are not real = who knows this, n truth, is free = doubt is there none
