ABOUT THIS BOOK The focus of this book is to provide the reader with a good understanding of the configuration required to implement SAP R/3 Plant Maintenance, as well as how that configuration configuration affects the day to day day use of the system. Configuration will be explored step by step through the Implementation Guide (IMG). An overview of master data, the work order process, preventive maintenance, and reporting will be provided. After reviewing reviewing other SAP-related SAP-related documents, documents, a common common criticism criticism is is that the configuration of the R/3 system is not discussed adequately, if at all. In response to that criticism, this book spends more time discussing the th e configuration of the R/3 Plant Maintenance module than in discussing the actual day-to-day use of the module. Some topics associated with the R/3 Plant Maintenance module that could not adequately be covered include Customer Service (formerly Service Management), Classification, Cross Application Time Sheet (CATS), Document Management, Work Clearance Management (WCM), and Archiving. None of those topics are specific sp ecific to the Plant Maintenance module and, although some of the Customer Service functionality relies on Plant Maintenance configuration, Customer Service also relies on Sales and Distribution (SD) functionality. functionality. SAP training specific to Customer Service is recommended in order to obtain a complete understanding of the Customer Not Covered Covered for Service “module.” See Appendix See Appendix A: Topics Not for further information regarding the functionality that could not be explored further in this book.
