Due to the increase in number of students enrolled on programs offered at Chinhoyi University of Technology and the fact that coursework is a necessity for the majority of courses undertaken by students, there has been an increased burden in the process of assignment management for both students and staff, and this has resulted in inefficiency in the overall management of assignments

The resource intensive nature of assessment can often decrease the quality of the feedback provided to students (Oliver and Mitchell, 1996). Through appropriate application of information technology it is possible to reduce costs and increase both the quantity and quality of assessment and feedback to students (Jones and McCormack, 1997).
