OBJECTIVE
To calibrate a 100 mL volumetric flask.
INTRODUCTION
The calibration of glassware is performed by letting o ut a volume of water into a flask. The volume is determined by weighing the flask and calculating the water volume by using its density from temperature. A correct calibration should allow rando m volume to let out.

PROCEDURE
1. A 100 mL volumetric flask is cleaned and dried.
2. A 1 x 2 cm label paper is cut and pasted on the volumetric flask so that the middle li coincides with the mark on t he flask. 3. The empty volumetric flask is weigh accurately.
4. The volumetric flask is filled with distilled water up to the o riginal mark carefully by
using a dropper when reaching t he mark. The inside neck o f the volumetric flask is w
dry with tissue paper with the help o f a glass rod. The volumetric flask is weigh with content accurately.
5. The volume of water in the volumetric flask is calculated based on the room tempera and data given in Table 1.1. This is exact volume of the volumetric flask.
6. If the volume obtained is not the same as the volume labelled o n the flask [100 mL],
a new mark 5 mm is made above and below the original mark on the label paper on t flask.

DISCUSSION
1. In this experiment, we are required to test the accuracy of vo lumetric flask and mark the volumetric flask with new calibration mark if inaccurac y occurs.
2. The volume of water we o btained when we poured water inside the flask until the calibr mark of 100mL volumetric flask was 99.70 mL, less 0.3mL than the volume it supposed be.
3. These may be due to : a. Volumetric flask used contain dust/ not properly cleaned b. The water contains impurities.
