It is possible to view the configuration of a device using Command Line Interface (CLI). The CLI can be a direct serial connection, Telnet, or SSH access. To view device configuration through CLI, use the CLI command system config. This command displays the running configuration (real and online configuration) of the device in the form of terminal commands. This means that if you copy and paste one of the lines into the CLI prompt – the command will be executed. Press the space bar to scroll down the page. Press Enter to scroll down line by line. How do I upload configuration settings using CLI? 1. To start the upload configuration process, enter: system paste-config start 2. Paste the selected commands from the output of the 'system config' command into the destination device. 3. To finish the configuration process, enter: system paste-config stop Please Note: Long statements in the output are broken using the line-continuation character (\ as the last character of a line).
I‟m trying to view the configuration using command: „system config immediate‟ but I receive an error message. Why? Symptom The CLI (RS-232, Telnet or SSH) command “system config immediate” is used to view the device configuration in real time in prompt command format. The follwing error message is printed: "Can't open the configuration file due to following reason: The configuration file is currently being used by a second user. Please try later." Possible reason The following error message is printed if the command is executed more than once, while the device is managed by more than a single CLI connection at a time. For example, one Telnet session and one SSH session at the same time, or two Telnet sessions or two SSH sessions at the same time. The error message may also appear in cases where the configuration is viewed using one of the CLI methods while trying to retrieve the configuration file using Web Based Management.
It is possible to execute this command twice at the same time only in cases where RS-232 (console) and Telnet session or RS-232 and SSH session are connected to the device.
Note: In order to view the configuration properly using CLI, it is recommended to enable the more prompt. If the More prompt is ON, the user is prompted for more output when the bottom of the display area is reached. If the More prompt is OFF, no such prompt appears.
