1. Introduction The reflection is the action of the past experiences and learning. Reflection gives us a chance for self development for the future by looking at the past experiences and provides us the learning for our future. The learning from our experiences helps us to avoid the mistakes in the future. Reflective writing of our project gives good learning experience during the course of the work. It provides a best way to use our experience for future. Reflective writing also provides us the progress check of the work undertaken. My reflective writing report will provide the brief idea of experiences during the management project. It will also provide the idea about the step wise progression of the report writing till the final stage. First of all I would like to tell the reason for selecting this topic out of the two give to us. After completion of my Bachelors in Textile technology, I have worked for around four years in the garment business sector and had idea about the importance of the ethics in the business and importance of corporate social responsibility and obligation of businesses towards the society (University of Wolverhampton, 2011). In the report further I will explain my point for working with group at the start of the project and also importance of sharing ideas at the start of the project and discussing our ideas and views with the tutor. The report will also provide my learning experience during the whole project work. this report will also reflect the application of the my learning techniques at the university during the masters course learnt in the first two semesters.
2. Group Dynamics: In the starting the Management project started with group discussion among the students and tutor. The group work and project classroom sessions has really given me the chance to share and gain knowledge about the topic and use of PAD (professional and academic development team for succeeding in our studies). Working together is the key to success. At the early start of the project the group work really given a push to my knowledge and learning. The topic discussion with group at the start generated so many ideas in the mind and slowly i realised that i can see the things sorted out in front of me. In the group work we all discussed about the topic and discussed the applied case study. The group work done on 20 th September 2012 has really given me the chance to understand the topic. Discussion with the tutor Ms Rohini has really given me a good start up. I discussed and understand the question correctly along with group. Discussion with my tutor was very important on that day. My tutor Ms Rohini has really given me good views and ideas about the topic and given me ideas to make planning for my project report and further work. She also provided good feedback and this developed my confidence. This is the starting point of the project and we all are filled with energy and enthusiasm. Everyone was aiming to complete the project work before the deadline time. I was aiming to reach the literature review by starting of the November month. In the initial first two classes no one was aware about the Leveson enquiry, the seed article related to our topic. We all discussed to learn more about this enquiry and discuss in the next class. While working in the group it is very important to share your views and ideas and well prepared for the topic which is going to be discussed among the group members I personally wanted to know about this because it was very new for me so I started reading news article about the enquiry and news related to business ethics. I also opted a free messaging service from the ethics website to get the latest updates about the issues. We all discussed about the report and enquiry in the subsequent meetings. Among other group members four of us created a good understanding between each other and started discussing often and scheduled further meetings. At this stage of time
the project sessions were over and everyone was busy doing their individual work. Four of us were discussing the problems faced from time to time by phone contacts.
3. Personal Experience A key stage of the management project process is writing literature review. Further the main issue was finding the aims and setting objectives to achieve the desired aim. The discussion about the aims and objectives were already done in the classroom. The main task for me was the literature review part. I was much tensioned at the starting days as I was spending whole day in the library and searching for the articles related to my topic in the data base. Initially I searched out books related to corporate social responsibility and corporate Governance and tried to get some data. I was getting so much data related to the topic but it was very vast and I have to squeeze the data and figure out the most relevant information related to the topic. During this course of action I have done the extensive use of the library catalogue. I followed the tips given by the librarian for searching out the data. Whenever I faced problem in searching oif the article I mailed the librarian for helping me in some issue. They provided very good help and assistance. I appreciate their help as they always responded to my mail regarding the issue. Below are my learning experiences during the time of working on the applied management project. 3.1 Personal learning
The personal learning can be divided into two phases. One is related to the soft learning and other is hard learning. 3.2 Soft Skills
The soft skills are related to our learning as individuals. During my applied management project I have learned so many things and that made changes on everyday basis in my life. The few are listed as below:Time Management the main and utmost important in the dissertation writing is planning and knowing your strengths and putting them in the right way. During the first and second semester of my course I have developed the time management skills so this time I managed the time in correct way from the start of the project. Further is dedication, motivation and organising my work. I was dedicated for my project work from the start and this further increased by attending the first week of applied management project. The motivation was from within that I have to provide a good academic work and will be proud of my own work. The topic subject was very
vast and I have to work on my time management skill. I made a scheduled plan chart to study on the particular timings. I allocated some time for the searching of the articles and journals and further work for reading and analysing the study material. Initially that also
didn’t worked out
because while searching for a particular topic I was loaded with so many other journal and was ended up with pile of articles and books and feeling under pressure for finding right information. After this I have taken advice from my tutor in the next session and she advised me to go through only abstract and conclusion first and provide advice on right way of searching article. So after all I started managing my time well and a habit of following time and action plan in my personal life also. Initially I set my target to search around at least 10 good references on daily basis whether it is news article/journal/book or any other academic source related to my research topic. By managing my time I reached
1. Multitasking – while doing my project work i learnt the multitasking skills. I am managing my personal and student life along with so many new leaning in my life. Searching for articles and analysing them and at the same time making notes and writing happening side by side.
2. Knowledge and improved information – This time I have fully used the library catalogue and used improved style of searching articles and journals. My knowledge regarding the business world and using the library catalogue increased. The have developed the enhanced IT skills and report writing skills during this dissertation period. 3.3 Hard Skills
The hard skills are related to the knowledge of academic learning and awareness of issues arising in the acadmeic world. I have learned so much about the corporate social responsibility, anti corruption, corporate governance and ethical business practices in the corporations. The main task of the report is doing secondary research and collecting and gathering information from journal articles, peer reviewed articles, case studies in the same field and gathering information on the work done in the field of business ethics and corruption in the business sector. I had
to undergo lot of research and used the library resources during my project work. now I also started to read the finance times , the economist and other business magazines. This was not earlier the part of my routine life.
3.4
Distraction
When we put our mind to work it gets easily distracted by small things. Initially I choose to sit in the library resources for my literature an data collection. I was wasting much of time there while studying. After that I started sitting on the level 2 and level 3 which are known as silence area of the university. One more distraction for me was every time I was confused on things that whether I have followed the right track so while my studying I was distracting by the thought that whether I have followed the right track. Even after submitting my interim report I was very confused on this thing. Further I am working on my literature review section and waiting for 21st to come so that I can discuss my report with my tutor. On 21st December i discussed with Mr. Zubin Sethna and he told me that I am on right track and needs to work more specifically. So I was bit relaxed that I am not out of track.
3. Lesson learned for future
My learning as an AMP student is filled with learning and experiences but as a matter of fact all of these experience and experience are simple part of knowledge and information unless I utilise these experiences as part of my lessons for future. Hence in the similar capacity I have formulated the following lessons for future while emphasising on the difficulties and opportunities as I have leveraged in my past. As previously discussed in this report, during the project work I have developed new skills in my life and increased knowledge as business student and further being employee in any organisation. These are mentioned as below:-
Learnt the Importance of ethics in the business
-
Effect of different culture on the business operating across nations.
-
Effective way of academic writing and report writing
-
Better time management skills
-
Planning and organising
-
Stress management
-
Critical evaluation and analytical skills
-
Problem solving
In capacity of a student and a researcher I feel more confident after working for AMP project. Although there are many areas where I could have done better and I would have made my AMP report draft. But at the same time I also realise that the lessons I have learnt from AMP. Above all the lessons that I have learnt while drafting my AMP report, the most crucial lesson I have learnt are related to planning and preparation to take on challenges. On one hand the AMP has helped me to improve my hard skills of academic learning and on other hand I have gained a crucial amount of knowledge for changing my mindset. Before and while working for AMP I was of a mindset to consider challenges as something to be feared off. But since I have met many challenges such as time management, multitasking, stress management and communication, I have realised that challenges are always filled with the
opportunities. And similar was the case with the AMP. All the difficulties that I have faced while report writing of AMP have made me more stronger and a better student. If I quantify my learning from university and learning from AMP, I estimate that more than half of my academic and social learning are actually driven f rom AMP work. The lessons that I have derived from AMP are not only important for me to use in my further studies but they are also valuable to me for my potential corporate role. In future while working for a multinational organisation, the lessons learnt from the AMP will surely provide me a competitive edge.
4. Conclusion The process of AMP project work was very challenging as well a great working and learning experience for me. During this period of my masters project I have understood the corporate social responsibility, corporate governance and business ethics which will help me in my future professional carrier. In my future I will be benefited from the learning and experiences of this project. Further t his will add great benefits in my future for gaining success in the business world. At the end I would like to thanks all the staff members of the business department, professional and personal development team and library services faculty for their continuous support and help during the project work.
