STORY TELLING COMPETITION
Date :18 April 2011 Time : 8.00 am Place: SK Ayer Putih Pendang Kedah.
INTRODUCTION
Every year, a few activities act ivities for English Panitia will be carried out at school level. On of the activities is ³story ³story telling competition´, competition´, stay story telling telling is an affective teaching and learning activity to help improve the standard of English among pupils.
OBJECTIVES
1. To enhance pupils¶ pup ils¶ confidence in using English. 2. To give pupils the oppo rtunity to use English is an interesting, authentic and a creative manner. 3. To enhance and improve the listening and speaking skills 4. To install pupils¶ interest in reading and writing wr iting in English.
DURATION OF PROGRAMME
Each participant is given 7 minutes
TARGET GROUP
Participants are chose from level 2 pup ils, ils, either from year 4,5 4 ,5 or 6

1.RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.1 The competition is open to all government aided schools. Only one contestant will represent his/her state at the national level. 1.2 The competition is divided into two sections : Section 1

:Impromptu

1.3 For section 1,contestants are to observe the following rules: 3.1 Stories presented can be authentic, adapted or originally written.
Stories presented must not touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion, politics, Color, personalities, etc. 3.3 Stories must be education with moral va lues. 3.4 Props, backdrops and sound effects are not allowed. Aids used during the presentation are considered part of the costume. If t he aids are deliberately detached from the story teller, they will be co nsidered and is an infringement. 1.4 For section 2,contestants are to observe the following rules: 4.1 Contestants choose a card 4.2 Contestants tell a story based on the word written on the chosen card 4.3 Time allocated to present the impromptu story is 2-3 minutes. The bell will rung at the 3 rd minute. No marks will be awarded thereafter. 1.5 Infrigement 5.1 A maximum of 10 marks will be educated if a contestant: .Touches on sensitive issues such as race, ,religion, politics, color, personalities, Etc. .Presents a story below the minimum stipulated time. .Use props, backdrops and electronically-aided sound e ffects.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES OF PROGRAMME
STRENGTHS 1.Encoverage pupils to stand infrant of the public. Individual that not dare to face and speaking in the public is group that most suitable follow this programme. Speaking in front audience matter not wonted to everyone. Only certain groups for example lecturer, minister and those who staying in particular job only that usual speaking in front audience. As such this programme help those unaccustomed to be usual to deal with audience.
2.Build up pupils self confidence. Apart from talent, self confidence also was something that important in public utterance. Despite having talent and knowledge but if has no self confidence of course will disturb during us while talking. When we confident all works will become easier, easy achieve success, even we also more venerable.
WEAKNESS 1.Pupils need a hundred percent support from teachers for training. Training and spirit always given by guidance teacher, hence pupil become dependent to teachers. This make courage and confidence because the existence of guidance teacher. 2.During presentation it seems that there are lack of creativities Student not so ready and sometimes do by rough-and-ready only.
SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1.Pupils should be trained through o ut the year. Not only for competition. In order to be a narrator that good, they need in train from the beginning and best from primary level more. some of them need a long time in order to be best. 2.The programmed should involved as many pupils as possible.
This programme is programme which requires audience. So as such best it held inside class as initial practice and introduced also when assembly namely infront audience that larger. And further until to outside competition.
CONCLUSION
1.It is our fervent hope that more pupils be trained and encouraged to participate in the school and district levels competitions. 2.The cooperation of schools, District/Division Education offices and state Educat ion departments are needed to ensure the smooth running and success of the co mpetitions.
