PREFACE
I
was doing nothing with my life in this so called long vacation after the admission war. Except from sleeping 11 hours a day and taking physics class in a coaching centre, I was back in the same life which I led in my college life. So, I was thinking how to increase my productivity in time and help others. I am not an expert in anything but I wanted to do something. Something while I was giving my HSC exam during the earlier part of the year, which was about writing a book. In my past days, I was thinking about what I should write about. Among thousand thoughts, one obvious thought came to my mind. I realized that the admission examination part comes only one in our lifetime, at least in my country. Another realization came that not everyone thinks of it as an important part of their life. Which sometimes, lead them to a certain ‘Uncertainty’ . So, in this book I tried my best to describe my admission life in simple words to those who are going to be in it next year and afterwards. I hope I can help them in advance.

THE AFTER HSC PART You have just completed your last exam and now looking forward to passing the practical exams. Some of your friends are now starting to get serious or you can say appearing serious before others. What should you do? If you got yourself admitted to a coaching center, good. It is your decision and I respect that. But if you haven‟t, then better. It is also your decision that I respect. I know I am sounding awkward. But it is going to be your decision that is going to matter till the end. So, your decision shouldn‟t matter much unless it is wrong or I say, illogical. If you are Commerce or Arts student, it shouldn‟t matter much. Because your goal is to get yourself admitted in a public university. But if you are a Science student, you have three ways and one of them is yours. You have already set a dream for your future. But stop there for a second and ask yourself, “How much of my dream is persuaded by my family ?”. You will pass your admission test with a seat in university or a medical college , complete your course and after that, you are going to be the who is going to practice your profession and carrying it on. It is not your father, not your mother, not your family, not that relative whom you see once in a year, not even your neighbor ! So, don‟t get persuaded by others when it comes to your future. Adjustment in life is good but adjustment in admission life is disastrous. If you have admitted to a coaching, I bet that in the first day, are going to be a lot disappointed. You will see seminar room full with students just like you. And the second day, it will get worse. The classroom that you had pictured in your mind and the classroom you are seeing now is completely different. You will see about 40-50 students sitting with you in the same class. It might even get worse, “Larger container holds more products”. Worst case scenario, there can be almost 60 students in the coaching class. On the other hand if you have thought that you will study on your own, thumbs up. You are not going to be depressed too much. But where you will get lost is finding the start. You will see yourself in the middle of books and nowhere. Both of the way has its own disappointment.

RISING FROM THE DISAPPOINTMENT One week, two week passed by. You have started to realize the situation. You have now got an idea about where to start. If you didn‟t, focus on which topic or chapter you skipped because you „have to‟ study all topics for admission test. The soon you realize, the better. If you are continuing your coaching, good. Keep it up and also practice in home. If you couldn‟t answer anything in the daily exam, practice it in home. Revise the topic what you were taught at coaching. Keep up with the syllabus of the coaching. DO everything you can to get the most out of the coaching centers. It is like getting your money back that you gave them. Even you will hear it from a lot of elder brothers. It is true because the coaching centre won‟t care if you got chance or not. So, it is up to you to take all the decisions. But once you take a decision, never change it. Changing a decision will only make slower, you will have to again make a new plan to support that decision. Then, make a rough schedule to keep your journey on. Try to follow the schedule, read textbooks daily, make important points on your books. But the later part is not needed because you already have done that in HSC. The next part, clear your bookshelf. You don‟t need many books to scare you or to give you enough confidence (for some peoples). You don‟t need that ICT book, not that Bengali book, neither the guides nor the HSC test papers. Just bind them together and put them aside. Now, the question banks or the practice books that the coaching centers gave you. You won‟t need all of them, nobody does. You just need to select some of them carefully. If you are an engineering student, take out Engineering question bank, Varsity Question bank, Science and technology question bank. These three play major roles in admission preparation. Every time you read and complete a chapter, make a small note of the formulas needed for the math. Some of the formulas can be found in the question banks or in the concept books. Talking of concept books, you don‟t need to complete them or don‟t need to memorize them. You just need them to get an idea about the questions that come in admission

exams. You will see a large change in the question pattern between HSC and admission exams. If you can understand the changes, congratulations. You have already understood the question pattern.
9
WHAT AND HOW The first question that will encounter in the admission preparation time is – “Biology or English?” Even you know the answer what many people would answer- “Biology”. Ask them- “Why?”. The answer will be the same –“For medical preparation”. But what they don‟t realize is that Medical and Engineering is completely different, in question pattern, in tactics. But the main reason we will be reading, is for University admission test. There‟s another option called – “English”. If you take preparation for English, you can participate in SUST, MIST, KUET and other universities admission test. But if you take preparation for Biology, you can only surpass DU, JnU, JU or some other universities. But there is no engineering university that sets biology question in admission test. At first, it will look like that taking biology will be better. But it is also up to you. If you are good at biology, then go for biology. But if you haven‟t thought about it yet, I‟d suggest you to go for English. I have already cleared the points for English. There won‟t be enough time to study English after DU examination. So, be careful ! You should take the decision right after HSC examination, otherwise, it would be too late. Now you got the answer for „What‟ to study. Now it is „How‟ to study. There can be a lot of answer, but the most obvious answer is to read the text book like others say. But I‟d tell you to make a little change. Read the text book as well as the concept book. Now, take three note book; one for each subjects. Read a chapter in book, read and understand the pattern through concept book. In concept book, you‟ll find some helpful shortcuts that you can use in M.C.Q examinations. There are also some important point for a certain topic. Write the important notes on the note book chapter wise. Don‟t forget to write the formulas in the note book. Don‟t waste 14-15 pages for one chapter. Make it as short as you can. If you can describe it to yourself just by a figure, draw it.
10
TARGET THE SUBJECT Before you go any further in your admission preparation life, I must tell you one thing. You wish that you want to study in this university, that university blah blah blah. But you must know that it is not a secure target. You might think that you‟ll read in any subject that you get. But it will only last for the four years of university. The rest of your life, you‟ll have to work on job based on that subject. Another reason I‟m telling this is because it will increase your self-motivation a hundred times. Suppose, you want to study EEE in any university. If it comes to a precise university, you‟ll have to secure a far more better position in the admission test. In this way, you‟ll put pressure on yourself to study further. Another plus point is that in this way, you can study in any university throughout the country if you want. Practically, it is seen that the students who made target on subjects have got chance in many universities. On the other hand, those who targeted Universities have barely got chance in that university. So, my advice on this- “Target the subject, not the university.”
THE MIDDLE JOURNEY Now one or one and a half month have passed. You are going on your schedule pretty much good. You are taking the weekly and daily tests conducted y the coaching centers. Don‟t worry about the results if it is too bad. Everyone‟s result will be the same. It is not the result that will help you develop but it is the question and coverage of syllabus that will help you to make up the topics that you didn‟t study or forgot to. Your parents mobile phones will be full of SMS from the coaching centers that will add more fuel to the fire. If parents ask you anything, simply tell them “I‟m trying to do better.” Don‟t go into an argument with them. Just stay quiet and let your result of the admission test shut their mouth. 11
It is the time to complete the whole syllabus. If you haven‟t, try to do it sooner. There goes a proverb, “The sooner, the better.” And another reason I‟m telling you to do it because later you won‟t get enough time to complete rest of the syllabus while you are giving the model tests. For now, just go on with the classes and the tests. And prepare yourself to stay unsocial for the next one or one and a half month. It would be better not to use social media like Facebook, Instagram or others. Well, you can use Messenger to keep yourself connected to your friends. But not more than one hour a day.
THE HELP FROM THE INTERNET You are a college student and you know how to use a mobile phone or a computer. You are already familiar to internet. You have surfed it a lot, maybe more than me. Don‟t ask why am I asking all of this. There is role of internet in your admission study. It can help you anytime, anywhere in anything. You mayn‟t trust your friends but you can trust this cool dude for information, learning etc. Suppose, you are stuck in a chemistry chapter, you can‟t remember a topic of this chapter. So, what are you going to do ? Search all of your college note books and the text books ? – No, never do it. It will just kill your time. But you can surely rely on the internet for clearing your doubts about that certain topic. There are a lot of websites to teach you for free. In Bangladesh, we have 10 Minute School, Onnorokom Pathsala, Jol-Pi etc. No, I am not advertising them, I‟m just showing you the path for solutions. It is you who should choose one of them. But what if you are stuck in a math ? There is also a solution. You can try Wolfram Alpha, SymboLab, EmathHelp for mathematics problems. Or there are also many groups in Facebook where you can ask for solution. There is a page named “Admission Bhaiya” where you can ask for solution to a problem. And they will indeed reply to you. You have power, better use it for a good cause. Don‟t just scroll feeds and just chat in Facebook.

IGNORE THE LITTLE MAN You will see some students who are more tensed about the weekly exam marks than the preparation part. My advice, ignore them as much as you can. They will sell you the same thing everyday – Hopelessness. And weeks over weeks, they will blabber about the same thing that you talked about the last week. What is true is that they can‟t find other topics to talk with you. And there is another group who will talk brag about their completion of syllabus. They will say that they have already completed their books and they are now pretty much tension free. Those people are divided into two groups. First group– they really have completed their syllabus and the second group- they have no idea of the syllabus ! You don‟t want and need to listen to any of them ! It is your journey and you must complete it. Like I said earlier, no one should interrupt you in your decisions. I will also recommend you to stay out of the competition in the coaching centre. The model tests will provide merit lists. Never follow the list, follow the syllabus and your dream plan. In the end, the Universities will choose students based on their test, not of the coaching centers‟. Let me share a real story: A student got himself/herself admitted to a coaching centre. After the preparation part was completed, the coaching centre would conduct model tests for practice. There was a branch of the coaching nearer to the student‟s home. So, the student thought that it would be more efficient for him/her if he/she could participate in that branch for the tests. Because it would take less time to go, less time to return. But the staff didn‟t give permission to him/her. The student didn‟t wait more and leave from there. From the next day, the student started to participate in the branch nearer to his/her home. It gave the student more time to practice, more time to prepare himself/herself in home as the admission tests were coming soon. After the result was published, the student made a good result in a Public University situated in Dhaka. Now the point is- If the student had listened to the staff, would he/she could get more time to prepare himself/ herself ? No, and the student 13
could have never made such a result. The moral I get from this story is that- “Always do what seems right to you.”
THE LAST CHIT CHAT You have only half a month before your admission tests start. Now, get ream real serious. But don‟t get too much that you get nervous breakdown. Stop the trend of staying awake till midnight. Your coaching centers will start taking the final model tests. Try to give them as best as you can. You can think of them as a warm up before the main exam. It will also act as an opportunity to complete your syllabus within a syllabus more shortly. In the final model tests, always; I repeat, always, try t answer the question fully in time. It will help you in your admission test a lot ! Now, give your best in your admission test. If you are going to a certain district of your country to participate in other institutions, don‟t forget to carry those notebooks. You don‟t want to carry text books and those concept books. Only the note books can help you taking preparation in the night before exam. Another advice, if you fail to gain position in the universities that you participated first, don‟t get tensed and lose your confidence. There are still some of the best universities throughout the country that you can read in. Never lose your focus, never.
