(Although Profections have nothing at all to do with the KP system, Sandy has introduced them to the world of KP thru her research and studies and has found them to be quite a useful tool to use no matter what system of astrology you prefer. So I will include them here as well, in spite of the fact that Profections have their origins in Classical and Medieval astrology.) Annual Profections are a method of progressing the chart at a rate of 30 degrees per year and can be broken down even further into monthly and daily profections , as follows: 30 degrees = 1 year 2 degrees and 30 min = 1 month 1 degree = every 12 days 35 min = 1 week 5 min = 1 day There are software programs available that can calculate profections, but for those people that don't have access to this option, you can do it manually to get a pretty close idea of what the annual, monthly and daily profections will be for any year.
As an example. we will use a birthdate of March 12, 1949. Age is 57 years old. (Annual profections always start on a person's first birthday and change to the next sign on each following birthday.) We want to see what the annual profection will be for the ascendant on the date of April 15, 2006.
1. Take the age, 57 and divide it by 12. This equals 4.75.

2. Discard the whole number (4) and keep only the remainder (75), past the decimal point.
3. Multiply the remainder, .75 by 12. This gives the number 9. (Remember to include the decimal point or you will come up with 900 instead of 9).
4. This means that everything in the natal chart has now moved up 9 signs for the 57th year from each and every planet and cusp. Always count the first sign as 0, then 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and finally 9, (which is the same thing as counting 10 full houses). Since we're focusing on the natal Aquarius ascendant, this puts the newly profected ascendant on the midheaven of the chart in the sign of Scorpio.
5. To narrow it down even further, look at the degree of the ascendant which is 5 AQU 57. Figure out how much time has passed so far since the last birthday and the transit date of April 15, 2006. It is one month and 3 days.
6. Therefore you can write it out as follows:
57 years old = 9 signs = SCORPIO Natal Asc = 5 degrees 57 minutes + One month = 2 degrees 30 minutes + 3 days = 0 degrees 15 minutes TOTAL = 7 degrees 102 minutes = 8 degrees 42 minutes

7. The Annual Profected Ascendant is now at 8 degrees SCORPIO 42 minutes, which should come pretty close to the software calculation.
8. The Profected Ascendant Lord is now Mars, which will be the most important planet governing the 57th year.
Note: Profections represent the unfolding of issues as they occur during the year in question. Therefore if you're concerned about marriage, then focus on profected Venus for example. Or, if you want to focus on financial or health issues, then profect the Part of Fortune or the ascendant. Whatever planets happen to be in the profected sign in question shows you how the events will play themselves out during that progressed period of time. If there are no planets in the sign of the profection, then look at the lord of the profected sign to see where its placed, as well as transits to that lord. Also check the conditions of these rulers in the Solar Return chart as well as the natal to get an overall picture of how the year will unfold. I prefer to relocate the Solar Return chart. Some astrologers differ on this, but to each his own.
There is also a concept in Profections that although is a medieval one is called "Handings Over", where you look at only the ASC, MC, SUN, MOON and PART OF FORTUNE. (though you can use other points as well). Then you check to see if the newly profected sign has any natal planets in it. For example, say a person has Moon and Jupiter in the midheaven natally in the sign of Libra. Now the profected MC comes along that year and conjuncts it. So the MC would have "handed over" the Moon and Jupiter, thus highlighting those planets for the year and bringing them out front and center stage, so to speak.
