THE BOOK The book is primarily intended as a text for all branches of B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA courses. Wrien with the aim of providing beer understanding of industrial operaons, the book is divided into six parts. Part 1 discusses contribuons and thoughts of classical (Taylor, Fayol, and Weber’s), neo-classical (Hawthorne) and modern thinkerss with a brief introducon thinker introducon.. It explains dierent funcons of management, and also dierenate between management and administraon. Various types of business organisaons with their structures and personnel management also nd place in this part. Financial aspects related to business operaons, such as nancial management, management accounng, breakeven analysis, depreciaon and replacement policies for equipment are detailed in Part 2. Numerical examples have been solved at appropriate places for clear understanding of the concept. Theory of depreciaon followed followed by the principles of replacement analyses is also discussed. Concepts related to designing operaons with insight into plant layout, materials handling and work study are focused in Part 3 of the book. Subsequently, the importance of job evaluaon and merit rang are brought about. For maintaining industrial peace, good relaonship between employers and employees is essenal. Thus, Part 4, namely, ‘Factors Aecng Industrial Relaon’, discusses industrial relaons, industrial safety and industrial legislaons along with wages and incenve plans. Whereas, Part 5 of the book elaborates on the producon planning and control, and gives insight on the related topics, such as markeng management, sales forecasng, materials management, inventory control, quality management, maintenance management, producvity, value analysis and ergonomics. Good decision-making is what dierenates a good manager from an inecient one. Thus, the last part includes a chapter on decision-making to examine managerial skills. Network construcons, CPM, PERT have been covered under project management. Quantave techniques for decision-making as linear
